As indicated by an investigation and insights of WHO (World Health Organization), every year more than 50% of people lose their lives due to street traffic wounds of which most of them are due to ...bike riders as a result of head wounds. When an accident occurs, there is a delay in rescuing the person and so the proposed research work aims to work on this topic by building an automated system to alert the family member as soon as the occurrence of the accident. In this perspective, the proposed model integrates Arduino UNO R3 micro controller, a GPS GY6MV2 beneficiary and GSM module SIM 800L. Further, GPS GY6MV2 is sued to get the scope and longitude of the accident region. The GSM module SIM 800L is utilized to send SMS and enlighten the individual regarding the type of accident and provides accident location using Google Maps. ADXL335 MEMS Accelerometer sensor catches the X and Y co-ordinates of the vehicle. Furthermore, 16x2 LCD is used to show messages, scope and longitude of the accident place.

In today's world, the problem of taking care of elderly people in their old age is just important and tedious as of taking care of a child, but the time and requirements are not available for ...everyone. The proposed project is developed in such a way that all the required monitoring is done automatically and the data reports and required suggestions are sent to the caretakers. The aim of the proposed IoT based smart bed system is to assist caretakers in helping elderly people who feel difficulty in taking care of themselves. Different sensors are used to measure the heart rate, temperature, blood pressure, and wetness. Raspberry Pi is used to interface with all the sensors. Raspberry Pi collects all the sensor data. These sensor data are given to the recommender system. Based on these sensors' data, the recommender system produces the output. For example, if the heart rate is high and blood pressure is low, the system tells that body needs oxygen, and this output is sent to the server, and an alert is sent to the caretakers to take further actions. The total setup of the hardware is so compact that it provides the elderly people as if a normal bed and also additional monitors can be set up for enabling an easy view of the sensor readings. The prototype of the bed is developed and the readings are viewed using a web server.

We examine the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in an emergency medical setting to inform the design of a computer-aided PPE monitoring and alerting system. We reviewed videos of 19 ...pediatric resuscitations from the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, finding that PPE violations were associated with specific phases in the patient care process (e.g., before patient arrival), specific tasks (e.g., medication preparation), and specific locations (e.g., at the room entrance, bedside). Our results suggest that alert design will require considering the urgency of correcting PPE violations vs. the urgency of the task being performed. We conclude by discussing our initial observations and the next steps.
Electricity is one of the inevitable sources of energy in our day to day life. Almost every single device we use from the moment we wake up until going to bed is electrically powered. Meanwhile, ...there is always a problem of power scarcity in our country. It mainly depends on hydraulic power, and we don't have much rainfall nowadays due to climate change issues. Our government is trying to overcome it and also to ensure power supply to all the consumers of the country without interruption. Reduced power consumption will lead to overcome electricity scarcity. Many pieces of research to monitor and reduce electricity usage is done in the past. However, most of them help to reduce electricity by displaying the total electricity consumption for a month. The best solution for this problem is to find the total electricity units consumed by each device for a given period of time rather than calculated as a whole. We have developed a gadget that will sense the electricity units consumed by a particular device being plugged in and will wirelessly transmit the units consumed in real-time and stored on a database. The total units consumed by the particular device per month will be calculated and displayed. Two prototypes are designed for this research and were tested over a two-week period of time. These gadgets can be plugged into any sockets and will help to detect the amount of power consumption, used through the gadget.
As employees are preparing to return to work globally, entering large-scale corporate and industrial environments, ensuring their safety is of paramount concern for their employers. The creation and ...adherence to new safety protocols are one way that corporations will attempt to achieve this. As the precautionary requirements are scaled to a global multinational corporation, the challenge increases. Traditional physical and visual methods to ensure social distancing are limited, inflexible, and may not deliver a comprehensive and agile solution. A complete end to end contact tracing and social distancing solution that can scale to meet the need of large organisations is required. This solution should provide employees with personal cues when the appropriate physical distancing guidelines are not available. The solution developed during this research combines multiple commercially available wireless and networking infrastructure technologies to provide robust retrospective contact tracing capabilities. The solution will accommodate the need for rapid data collation and visualization from locations worldwide and provides a single, secure management view to enable public health teams to react to potential incidents rapidly. This approach supports a rapid deployment on a global scale across live diverse corporate and manufacturing environments. It is installed in a manner that is complementary to existing technology without causing business impact or interruption. Data collected during the pilot suggest that the end to end solution meets the technical requirements to deliver a comprehensive proximity altering and contact tracing solution for large scale global enterprises. The proposed solution is easy to install, manage and is cost efficient.
Dr. Ewin recently reported his research on two "remarkable" cases where hypnosis performed by a lay hypnotist was allegedly associated with the death of the subject. Commentary is provided about both ...cases. In the first case, it seems clear that the death was co-incident to the hypnosis. In the second case, Dr. Ewin speculates that hypnosis may have been related to the subject's death following her experience in a stage hypnosis show. Instead, we propose that the alerting suggestion used to terminate the hypnosis (that "the subjects would feel 10,000 volts of electricity through the seat of their chairs"), not hypnosis per se, was inappropriate and may have specifically adversely affected this particular subject due to her phobia regarding electricity. Legal ramifications of these cases regarding the issue of informed consent are raised. It is concluded that these cases do not imply a duty to warn subjects/patients that one possible negative consequence of undergoing hypnosis is death.
The EU FP7 project DRIVER conducts a number of experiments that explore new approaches for addressing known deficiencies in crisis management. The "Interaction with Citizens" experiment campaign ...focuses on testing the usability and acceptance of various methods and tools that facilitate crisis communication via several channels. These include: informing, alerting, micro-tasking, incident information crowdsourcing from volunteers, and usage of this information to improve situational awareness. The results highlight that volunteer motivation in a serious game like scenario is important to simulate participation in crisis events. We also argue that the scenario complexity level needs to be simple enough to avoid difficulties in communication with non-professional participants in addition to external influences in a field experiment. In this paper, we present lessons learned from the final experiment of this campaign that investigated two-way communication solutions between crisis managers and citizens or unaffiliated volunteers in a simulated flooding scenario in the city of The Hague.
The performance of mental alerting during caloric testing has always been considered important, however its use/benefit during electronystagmography (ENG)/videonystagmography (VNG) testing has been ...questioned. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of mental alerting tasks on peripheral type vestibular nystagmus recorded during ENG. Thirty patients with significant spontaneous/gaze or positional nystagmus (slow phase velocity ≥ 6°/s) were recruited from consecutive referrals for vestibular assessment. Nystagmus was recorded by ENG both in the presence and absence of mental alerting for each patient. Investigation of nystagmus by analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed significantly larger nystagmus (higher value SPV) with mental alerting than with no alerting (p<0.001), and for some patients nystagmus traces were reduced to a flat line (no nystagmus) with no alerting. The study demonstrates the importance of mental alerting in helping overcome central suppression of nystagmus and highlights its importance to help identify peripheral type nystagmus during ENG.
