The microRNAs (miRNAs) are a new class of small nonprotein-coding RNAs that have been identified to regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by targeting mRNAs for degradation or by ...inhibiting protein translation. Until now, thousands of miRNAs have been identified in many plants species. However, only 23 miRNAs have been reported from the microRNA database in Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis), one of the most widely cultivated vegetables in China and East Asia. In the present study, 168 potential miRNAs, derived from 22 EST and 119 GSS sequences in Chinese cabbage were identified and classified into 38 miRNA families by well-defined computational analysis, in which most belonged to the miRNA1533, miRNA156, and miRNA2911 families. Totally, there are 129 identified miRNAs potentially targeting 1386 Chinese cabbage EST genes, which play roles in multiple biological and metabolic processes including metabolism, cell growth, signal transduction, stress response, and plant development. Gene ontology analysis, based on these target proteins, showed that 688, 532, and 287 genes were involved in molecular functions, biological processes, and cellular components, respectively. KEGG pathway analysis demonstrated that these miRNAs participated in 214 metabolism pathways, including, amongst others, plant–pathogen interaction, fatty acid metabolism, amino acid metabolism, nitrogen metabolism, plant hormone signal transduction.

Extraordinary variation has been found in mitochondrial (mt) genome inheritance, gene content and arrangement among bivalves. However, only few bivalve mt genomes have been comparatively analyzed to ...infer their evolutionary scenarios. In this study, the complete mt genome of the venerid
Paphia euglypta
(Bivalvia: Veneridae) was firstly studied and, secondly, it was comparatively analyzed with other venerids (e.g.,
Venerupis philippinarum
and
Meretrix petechialis
) to better understand the mt genome evolution within a family. Though several common features such as the AT content, codon usage of protein-coding genes, and AT/GC skew are shared by the three venerids, a high level of variability is observed in genome size, gene content, gene order, arrangements and primary sequence of nucleotides or amino acids. Most of the gene rearrangement can be explained by the "tandem duplication and random loss" model. From the observed rearrangement patterns, we speculate that block interchange between adjacent genes may be common in the evolution of mt genomes in venerids. Furthermore, this study presents several new findings in mt genome annotation of V. philippinarum and M. petechialis, and hence we have reannotated the genome of these two species as: (1) the ORF of the formerly annotated cox2 gene in V. philippinarum is deduced by using a truncated "T" codon and a second cox2 gene is identified;; (2) the trnS-AGN gene is identified and marked in the mt genome of both venerids. Thus, this study demonstrated a high variability of mt genomes in the Veneridae, and showed the importance of comparative mt genome analysis to interpret the evolution of the bivalve mt genome.

The sequencing and comparative genomic analysis of LMBR1 loci in mammals or other species, including human, would be very important in understanding evolutionary genetic changes underlying the ...evolution of limb development. In this regard, comparative genomic annotation of the false killer whale LMBR1 locus could shed new light on the evolution of limb development. We sequenced two false killer whale BAC clones, corresponding to 156 kb and 144 kb, respectively, harboring the tightly linked RNF32, LMBR1, and NOM1 genes. Our annotation of the false killer whale LMBR1 gene showed that it consists of 17 exons (1473 bp), in contrast to 18 exons (1596 bp) in human, and it displays 93.1% and 95.6% nucleotide and amino acid sequence similarity, respectively, compared with the human gene. In particular, we discovered that exon 10, deleted in the false killer whale LMBR1 gene, is present only in primates, and this fact strongly implies that exon 10 might be crucial in determining primate-specific limb development. ZRS and TFBS sequences have been well conserved across 11 species, suggesting that these regions could be involved in an important function of limb development and limb patterning. The neighboring gene RNF32 showed several lineage-conserved exons, such as exons 2 through 9 conserved in eutherian mammals, exons 3 through 9 conserved in mammals, and exons 5 through 9 conserved in vertebrates. The other neighboring gene, NOM1, had undergone a substitution (ATG→GTA) at the start codon, giving rise to a 36 bp shorter N-terminal sequence compared with the human sequence. Our comparative analysis of the false killer whale LMBR1 genomic locus provides important clues regarding the genetic regions that may play crucial roles in limb development and patterning.

Digital technologies deeply change the way in which societies grasp their environment and represent space Cartography is not exempt from these changes, maps are more widespread than ever and are being used for new purposes. Among them, the use of route specific maps, made easier by technical and technological developments. Many online maps are used for itineraries, and most of them come from United States-based corporations. These observations raise the questions of how to understand this specific use of maps when put in a chronological and comparative perspective ? Is this an innovation or rather an actualization of a previous type of mapping practice ? What is the status of these itineraries when studied in a multifaceted perspective ?This research addresses these questions using three main approches : cartobibliographical, semiological and processual, and relying on extensive map collections from the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Newberry Library. The main results bring new insights on the changes taking place with the transition from a primarily paper cartography to a primarily on-screen cartography and call for a redefinition of the status of maps in the digital era.
There have been many studies of the morphology, behavioral audiograms, and population structure of the false killer whale (
Pseudorca crassidens
), but sequencing, mapping, and functional and ...comparative genomics studies are still largely unknown. In this paper, we sequenced three novel BAC clones corresponding to a total length of 308 kb and spanning the PRNP, PRND, and RASSF2 loci, and conducted comparative genomic analysis to examine the genomic structure of the false killer whale PRNP locus. We determined that the three genes show a high degree of conservation in their syntenic regions with respect to gene order, gene orientation, and the predicted coding sequence (CDS) between human and whale, whereas PRNT was not detected in whale. Interestingly, the predicted CDS in whale PRNP contained a novel type of 4-copy octarepeat resulting from a 24 bp deletion when compared with the human sequence. In addition, we identified a novel 1869 bp repeat unit in a region that is non-syntenic to human and cow sequences and is therefore considered to be whale-specific sequence. Our results will provide novel insights into the genomic changes that have occurred during evolution of mammalian PRNP loci, and may also have implications for research into prion disease.

This work aims to highlight the challenges of cultural diversity and linguistic plurality, facing the willingness emergence of the Southern Francophone countries, expressed after year 2000. Deconstruction and reconstruction of the concepts of emergence, cultural diversity, linguistic plurality, solidarity, development and global governance, under the different views of political literature, political economy, political philosophy and international relations were necessary. A step to better apprehend the behavior of the Francophonie within globalization, as well as Southern francophone countries over recent decades. A comparative evaluation was conducted in a context of action-research and following a multidisciplinary approach, which ultimately shows the level of the political, economic, social and cultural environments delays which are present in these southern Francophone countries. This delay which is characterized by an incorrect societal governance model, a financing of the economic development model based on poor foundations, lack of suitable language policy, and a presence of constitutional texts on complete phase shift with the advance of globalization. Thus, at the end of the story, a real feedback for the Francophonie is still awaited. What are today’s and tomorrow’s conditions in order to actually catch up the delay recorded in the Southern French-speaking countries? How could Francophonie react in front of this intricate situation? Some proposals are presented at the end of this research, which intends to go beyond issues of cultural diversity and linguistic plurality, as a way to lay the foundations of fair cards redistribution in the current and future of globalization, on behalf of the diversity principles, effective solidarity, practical universalism and operational humanism.
Article 6 of the ECHR provides the principles of fair trial. Apparently overlooked by this text, which does not explicitly mention it, the field of criminal evidence, and rights in connection therewith, is an important component of litigation from Article 6, and an area in which the European Court of Human Rights interpretative work is one of the most interesting laboratories for legal comparison. The “rule of sole or decisive evidence” establishes a minimum standard of guarantee, by which the conviction cannot be based solely or primarily on evidentiary items whose admission has not respected the conventional rights of the accused. Made in a highly innovative environment, featuring an hybrid legal nature, the “sole or decisive rule” crosses, and at the same time seeks, the more recent evolutionary trends at work in European law of criminal evidence.
This research on Togo is aimed at contributing to the resolution of sports development problems and addressing its challenges in francophone African countries. The approach employed is multidisciplinary and comparative, based on the methods of sports geography. Moreover, it revisits key historical milestones in a Togolese context.Since the early twentieth century, the impact of three colonial dominations (German, English and French) was responsible for the origin, establishment and dissemination of sports in Togo. After 1960, the year of independence, sports development in continuity with the legacy of French colonial rule, was supported by the state and became a tool of social control by the authoritarian, military-style regime. The analysis of the current state of sports in Togo shows the centralization of state action on elite sports, the deployment of different sports markets and the emergence of different social phenomena such as appropriation and communal support.Comparison of the differences in methods of propagation identified in Togo and those at work in former West African French colonies such as Benin and Senegal exposes new opportunities: the use of physical activities, both traditional and modern for social mobilization and the maintenance of a sports elite. Both of which are complimentary and necessary for the development of sports for the long term.
In Quebec and in France, at school, health is often seen through the filter of health promotion and the large campaigns of Public health relayed by the school health with in particular evaluations of programs and analyses inter organizational (Weiner et al, 1988 ; Jourdan et al, 1998 ; Carlson et al, 2008 et Kreulen et al, 2009). For many years, the official texts (Quebec Education Program (2001) and the common base of the knowledge in France (1998)) invite teachers to tackle health education in a comprehensive and systemic way and include it in the nearest learning. Although, health education makes explicit part of the curriculum, it is hardly a place in school. It does, indeed, not the configuration of a discipline and may involve different field school (Physical Education, Biology, etc). Answering, these injunctions require firstly that Health education is not seen as an empirical notion but more rather as a strong conviction that teachers want to work with pupils and secondly, an opening of the class toward the other class and the school toward the community. For this qualitative and comparative research, we were interested, at first, to spot the nature of the collective actions in health education realized in primary schools in Quebec (n=6) and in France (n=6), secondly, to analyze the types of partnership and finally, in the third time, to put in relation the nature of the health education actions and the type of networks. The frame of analysis of the partnership is the one of Mérini (1999, 2006) who defines the partnership as «the minimum common actions negotiated towards the resolution of a problem or a problematic recognized as mutual».The corpus is constituted from professional papers (report of meeting, pupils' production, project of school, etc.) collected over two years and of semi-managed conversations. For our analysis, only the professional papers were considered. At first, we described and analyzed the nature of health education actions under the angle of the definition of Mérini (2007, 2009) to know that " health education, at school, can conceive as the installation of a series of reports to one, to the others, in the environment, in the past and in the future with the aim of bringing the pupil by opinions reasoned to make choices enlightened in health " and on the other hand, through teachers practices. The results demonstrate that in Quebec, the report to one is the most worked while in France, it is the report in the other one. In Quebec, the actions seem more complex than in France and combine often more than a report. Finally, in Quebec, more health education actions join the promotion of an active lifestyle. Secondly, we were interested in the partnership logics which underlie health education actions under the angle of the networks of opening and collaboration and the resources used to set up and develop these actions. The results show that the school finds its in-house resources and that the network of type 2 is the most frequent. Its stake is the training of the pupils. In France, actions are often subcontracted because the teachers consider the more competent specialists. The outer participants are different: in France, we find especially "préventologues" whereas in Quebec, the school works with parents or associations. ...
