This paper presents an exploration of figurative comparison expressions featuring farm animal zoonyms in the English language and their possible equivalents in Serbian. Farm animal idioms are ...integral to linguistic discourse, contributing to the richness and diversity of language use. Their complexity often necessitates a deep understanding of cultural and contextual factors for their accurate interpretation, highlighting the potential for cross-cultural comparative studies to enrich our understanding of idiomatic expressions. These expressions transcend mere linguistic curiosities and play a vital role in meaning construction and imagery formation within discourse. The paper provides an overview of expressions divided into five categories according to the type of farm animal used as the source domain: bovines (cows and their male counterparts, bulls and oxen), equi (horses and mules), pigs, sheep and poultry, and attempts to assign an equivalent phrase in Serbian, comparing the usage between the two languages, in order to shed some light on the intricate interplay between language, culture, and cognition in the realm of idiomatic figurative expressions involving farm animals.

Animal idioms, which can reflect people's feelings or explain complicated phenomena and rules with vivid and expressive ...animal images, contain rich and unique cultural connotations. This paper studies a comparative analysis of English and Chinese animal idioms from perspective of culture, aiming to make people know the cultural differences, improve their intercultural awareness and use animal idioms accurately, to promote intercultural communication more smoothly and properly.
Idiom, being an indispensable constituent of language, is the quintessence of the erudition. Every civilization has its own characteristics on the ground that there are some discrepancies in history, ...geography, customs, etc., among divergent sovereign states. Therefore, it is unambiguous that there subsists divergences in metaphorical objects and its implication of animal idioms among distinctive erudition. This paper attempts to compare and contrast English and Chinese animal idioms from its metaphorical objects and meanings and they can be categorized into four types. It is widely acknowledged that some animal idioms have equivalent connotations in culture. However, the majority of them have diverse implications among distinctive countries. On this basis, many exemplars are cited to make clear translation strategies of Chinese animals idioms. The author will interpose several interpretation principles a. Equivalent Translation, Reserve Image; b. Corresponding Translation, Change Image; c. Compromising Translation, Abandon Image. The author expects these translation principles will provide some constructive clues for translators. Here the author will mainly illustrate the translation strategies of idioms that have same metaphorical objects and maintain different metaphorical meanings as well as idioms of metaphorical vacancies on the basis of the comparative study on Chinese and English Animals idioms.
Lots of animal idioms are found in English and Chinese language. However, since there are great differences in history, culture, geographical environment, fairy tale, custom, religion, and mode of ...thinking between England and China, people who speak English and people who speak Chinese as their native language have different ideas for the same animals. Therefore, there are different cultural metaphors in English and Chinese idioms. These cultural differences can be divided into groups: conflict of cultural meaning between English and Chinese animal idioms and cultural exclusiveness of English or Chinese animal idioms, which lead to great trouble in translating. Combined with a large number of examples, this paper aims to analyze characteristics, differences, and reasons of animal idiom from perspectives of conceptual metaphor and tries to probe into some suitable translation strategies when translators are facing variety of difficulties so as to meet the target of retaining the original meaning.
U ovome se radu opisuju frazemi s leksemom životinje kao sastavnicom, prikupljeni u terenskom istraživanju hrvatske frazeologije mađarskog Pomurja i međimurske frazeologije. Kao predstavnik hrvatske ...frazeologije mađarskog Pomurja selo je Serdahelj dok je Mala Subotica predstavnik međimurske frazeologije. Frazemi sa sastavnicom životinje motivirani su životinjskim osobinama, njihovim vanjskim izgledom, ponašanjem, ali i odnosom prema čovjeku, kao i čovjeka prema životinjama. U radu se prikazuje i poredak učestalosti frazema s leksemom životinje kao sastavnicom u obama govorima.
