During machining operations, user safety is a big factor need to consider. The more interaction of the user with the machine, the more the user is prone to accident due to mechanical or tool ...failures. Like in CNC systems, especially in milling and router machines, user interaction can be seen during manual tool change operations. This study presents the development of an automatic tool changer for the 3-axis computer numerically-controlled (CNC) router machine of the Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC). ATC reduces the cycle time of tool-change operations, thus, improving the machine productivity. Furthermore, ATC also ensures the user's safety during tool change operations. It allows complete machining where different toolings are required to make different operations like cut, engrave, drill and mill. This includes the use of a pneumatic or quick-change electrospindle and an ISO-20 tool holder system. The tool holder system makes the CNC router adaptable and flexible to different routing operations.
With the development of society and technology, the operation methods of industrial production are changing gradually from artificial operation to automation and intellectualization. The way of the ...artificial tool changer is still used in most of enterprises. While, not only the efficiency of the way is low, but also the precision is low. In the recent years, in order to meet the needs of production, the automatic tool changer system is playing more and more important roles. This topic is ZhenJiang industrial science and technology support project. The project is based on the parameters of special-shaped screw of CNC milling machine of JiangSu QiHang NC limited company to design the automatic tool changer. Based on this, a new automatic tool changer is designed and controlled in the paper.

Honing is an abrasive machining process that rounds, smoothes and enlarges bores in end products. It needs, however, a uni-purpose machine tool. Then a honing unit, which can be used on a machining ...center, has been developed to cut new investment in plants and to automate a honing process. This unit is light and compact, so that it can be inserted in the tool magazine of a machining center. From the experiments on its performance, it is made clear that this unit can produce good degrees of roundness, roughness and cylindricity. A soluble type of coolant can be used in the honing of cast iron. The lead time can be fairly reduced, because a workpiece has not to be unloaded when this apparatus is used. The developed honing unit brings many advantages over the conventional method especially in the case of job shop type of production. The possibility of realizing automation, saving cost and time, is much increased.
Roller gear cam mechanisms (RGCMs) are used extensively as automatic tool changers of machining centres or as indexing mechanisms in various machinery. However, almost all the existing RGCMs have a ...turret in a rotational motion only. Thus for example, when they are used as a part of automatic tool changers, the translational motions of the tools have to be given by other mechanisms. An RGCM with a turret which can move with both translation and rotation simultaneously is proposed; such an RGCM may simplify the structure of some machines.
By using D-H homogeneous coordinate transformation matrices, and applying the theory of conjugate surfaces, the model for the surface design of the RGCM is developed. Two examples are included to demonstrate the usages of the model and to verify its correctness.
