We present some systematic tests of the quality of bibliographic data exports available from Google Scholar. While data quality is good for journal articles and conference proceedings, books and ...edited collections are often wrongly described or have incomplete data. We identify a particular problem with material from online repositories.
We present a large-scale comparison of five multidisciplinary bibliographic data
sources: Scopus, Web of Science, Dimensions, Crossref, and Microsoft Academic.
The comparison considers scientific ...documents from the period 2008–2017
covered by these data sources. Scopus is compared in a pairwise manner with each
of the other data sources. We first analyze differences between the data sources
in the coverage of documents, focusing for instance on differences over time,
differences per document type, and differences per discipline. We then study
differences in the completeness and accuracy of citation links. Based on our
analysis, we discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the different data sources.
We emphasize the importance of combining a comprehensive coverage of the
scientific literature with a flexible set of filters for making selections of
the literature.
Purpose
The European Journal of Marketing was created in 1967. In 2017, the journal celebrates its 50th anniversary. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present a bibliometric overview of the ...leading trends of the journal during this period.
Design/methodology/approach
This work uses the Scopus database to analyse the most productive authors, institutions and countries, as well as the most cited papers and the citing articles. The investigation uses bibliometric indicators to represent the bibliographic data, including the total number of publications and citations between 1967 and 2017. Additionally, the article also develops a graphical visualization of the bibliographic material by using the visualization of similarities viewer software to map journals, keywords and institutions with bibliographic coupling and co-citation analysis.
Findings
British authors and institutions are the most productive in the journal, although Australians’ are growing significantly the number of papers published. Continental European institutions are also increasing the number of publications, but they are still far from reaching the British contribution so far. In the mid-term, however, these zone’s authors and institutions, especially those from big European countries like France, Germany, Italy and Spain, should reach a closer performance to British ones; more as less long, historic, but more recent periods of analysis are considered.
Practical implications
This article is useful for any reader of this journal to understand questions such as papers’ European Journal of Marketing-related scientific productivity in terms of, for instance, contributors/authors, institutions and countries, or the main sources used to back them.
Originality/value
This is the first comprehensive article offering a general overview of the leading trends and researchers of the journal over its history.
In the post-genomic era, the elucidation of the relationship between the molecular origins of diseases and their resulting phenotypes is a crucial task for medical research. Here, we use a ...large-scale biomedical literature database to construct a symptom-based human disease network and investigate the connection between clinical manifestations of diseases and their underlying molecular interactions. We find that the symptom-based similarity of two diseases correlates strongly with the number of shared genetic associations and the extent to which their associated proteins interact. Moreover, the diversity of the clinical manifestations of a disease can be related to the connectivity patterns of the underlying protein interaction network. The comprehensive, high-quality map of disease-symptom relations can further be used as a resource helping to address important questions in the field of systems medicine, for example, the identification of unexpected associations between diseases, disease etiology research or drug design.
In this paper, the results of an analysis of the data quality performed within quality control of daily bibliographic records production in the period from 2015 to 2020 are presented. The sample ...included 13,478 bibliographic records with associated authority records. The analysis is based on the data quality dimensions that were attributed to the recorded errors of the reviewed bibliographic and normative records. Also, the individual errors in the context of specific data elements are presented. Furthermore, the results include an indicative quality score of records in terms of the number of messages sent to cataloguers and the performance of the monitoring method in terms of the proportion of records corrected. According to our estimations, some 70% of the records reviewed were good or good enough and the response rate of cataloguers was relatively high. In the discussion, problems with some data elements were highlighted and it was stressed how important it is to keep up to date with changes in the Slovenian cataloguing practice.

The concept of the Work really came to the fore with the emergence of FRBR, and has become even more pronounced thanks to LRM. According to Chris Holden, it is becoming increasingly important to be ...able to present the work in the catalogue. Yet, there are still few catalogues in which you can search for the work, so the thinking is still largely theoretical. In the near future, however, the work will become a constituent element of catalogues. This is also supported by the fact that the harmonisation of standards and codes related to bibliographic description with LRM has started, for example the IFLA Cataloguing Section's work plan 2021–2023 includes the harmonisation of ICP with LRM. Therefore, the author considers it important to explore the concept of the work, its representation in cataloguing theory at home and abroad, and how the FRBR lays the theoretical foundations of the concept of the work and how this is incorporated into the LRM model, national and international standards and codes. As the current domestic cataloguing is based on the ISBD, the study examines conceptual approaches to the work from the 1960s, with a particular focus on the domestic representatives of cataloguing theory, above all Ákos Domanovszky and Béla Szelle.
Sustainable land management (SLM) is widely recognized as the key to reducing rates of land degradation, and preventing desertification. Many efforts have been made worldwide by various stakeholders ...to adopt and/or develop various SLM practices. Nevertheless, a comprehensive review on the spatial distribution, prospects, and challenges of SLM practices and research is lacking. To address this gap, we gathered information from a global SLM database provided by the World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies (WOCAT) and two bibliographic databases of academic research. Over 1900 SLM practices and 1181 academic research papers from 129 and 90 countries were compiled and analyzed. Relatively better SLM dissemination was observed in dry subhumid countries and countries with medium scores on the Human Development Index (HDI), whereas dissemination and research were both lower in humid countries with low HDI values. Cropland was the main land use type targeted in both dissemination and research; degradation caused by water erosion and mitigation aimed at water erosion were also the main focus areas. Other dominant land use types (e.g., grazing) and SLM purposes (e.g., economic benefits) have received relatively less research attention compared to their dissemination. Overall, over 75 % of the 60 countries experiencing high soil erosion rates (>10 t ha−1 yr−1) also have low HDI scores, as well as poor SLM dissemination and research implying the limited evidence-based SLM dissemination in these countries. The limitation of research evidence can be addressed in the short term through integrating existing scientific research and SLM databases by adopting the proposed Research Evidence for SLM framework. There is, however, a great need for additional detailed studies of country-specific SLM challenges and prospects to create appropriate evidence-based SLM dissemination strategies to achieve multiple SLM benefits.
