Customer engagement (CE) is a marketing concept that emerged after the new millennium. Despite flourishing interest on CE among marketing academics and professionals, no review, to date, has provided ...a comprehensive overview of the past, present, and future trends of CE. Instead, past reviews on CE are often limited to conceptual (e.g., construct) or contextual (e.g., hospitality and tourism) insights derived using traditional review methods (e.g., descriptive) with a relatively modest review sample (e.g., tens to low hundreds), which provide a limited understanding of the field in its entirety. To address this gap, this review conducted a combination of bibliometric and thematic analyses on 861 CE articles published in 377 Scopus-indexed journals between 2006 and 2020. As a result, this review reveals the major trends in article, author, country, and journal performance, as well as the past, present, and future thematic trends of CE research, and thus, provides a one stop, state-of-the-art overview of CE that marketing scholars can rely on to position and design future CE research.
High-performance materials called nanocomposites have unique features. Nanocomposites are in high demand in plastic engineering, with an anticipated periodic growth rate of 25 %. Its potential is so ...great that it is useful in numerous operations, from packaging to biomedical operations. It is anticipated that similar equipment and other intriguing operations will be required. The operations of nanocomposites display new specialized and marketable potential for numerous electronics, automotive, aerospace, and biotechnology sectors because of their environmental friendliness. Some studies on water uptake have shown that both ZnO nanorods and polymer polyaniline (PANI) function to prevent up to 75 % of liquid from penetrating the paint layer. With 4 % MWCNT content, a polypyrrole-multiwalled carbon nanotube (PPy-MWCNT) nanocomposites sensor was developed that was most sensitive to NH3 gas. The produced material maintained 86.9 % of its starting specific capacitance. The graphene quantum dots (GQDs) composite results show that the high charge storage retention is 91.45 %. This paper will explain the importance of using nanocomposites in industry applications where the paper decides on coating, sensors, and energy storage.
•The article reviews progress in the synthesis of nanocomposites for different industry applications.•Bibliometric analysis of nanocomposites for industry applications was investigated.•The advantages of using nanocomposites for coating was discussed.•The use of nanocomposites in electrochemical sensors was described in depth.•The use of nanocomposites in energy storage was also discussed.
Sustainable transportation plays a crucial role in achieving development objectives at the local, national and global levels. Numerous studies have focused on sustainable transportation, but there is ...a limited effort to review these studies to influence future research direction, particularly in the African context. Thus, the purpose of this study is to review research on sustainable transportation in Africa to understand the predominant research topics, knowledge gaps, and directions for future research. The study employed PRISMA protocol for the data collection and a total of 238 articles were retrieved from the SCOPUS database. The study used bibliometrix software and VOSviewer to generate the results and qualitative analysis to identify the knowledge gap and directions for future studies. Five research topics and four knowledge gaps were identified. The proposed areas for further research centres on the social dimension of transport sustainability, information and communication technology (ICT) and transportation, non-motorised transport with an emphasis on walking, as well as transport and disaster risk. The study included only English journal articles from the SCOPUS database, potentially excluding other significant studies. However, this study provides a valuable overview of sustainable transportation research in Africa, beneficial for both academics and non-academics involved in transport planning and policy-making.
•Sustainable transportation is significant for achieving Sustainable Development Goals.•Research on Sustainable Transportation in Africa is reviewed using bibliometric approach.•The study employed PRISMA protocol for data collection.•The predominant research topics and knowledge gaps are highlighted.•Future research directions for advancing sustainable transportation are recommended.
The entrepreneurship literature pays increasing attention to the ethical aspects of the field. However, only a fragmented understanding is known about how the context influences the ethical judgment ...of entrepreneurs. We argue that individual socio-cultural background, organizational and societal context shape entrepreneurial ethical judgment. In our article, we contribute to contemporary literature by carving out the intersections between Ethics and Entrepreneurship. We do this by employing a two-step research approach: 1) We use bibliometric techniques to analyze 719 contributions in Business and Economics research and present a comprehensive contextual picture of ethics in entrepreneurship research by a analyzing the 30 most relevant foundation articles. 2) A subsequent content analysis of the 50 most relevant academic contributions was carried with an enlarged database out to augment these findings, detailing ethics and entrepreneurship research on an individual, organizational and societal level of analyses. By comparing the two analyses, this paper concludes by outlining possible avenues for future research.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been labeled as a black swan event that caused a ripple effect on every aspect of human life. Despite the short time span of the pandemic—only four and half months so far—a ...rather large volume of research pertaining to COVID-19 has been published (107 articles indexed in Scopus and the Web of Science). This article presents the findings of a bibliometric study of COVID-19 literature in the business and management domain to identify current areas of research and propose a way forward. The analysis of the published literature identified four main research themes and 18 sub-themes. The findings and propositions of this study suggest that COVID-19 will be the catalyst of several long- and short-term policy changes and requires the theoretical and empirical attention of researchers. The offered propositions will act as a roadmap to potential research opportunities.
Consumer research on conversational agents (CAs) has been growing. To illustrate and map out research in this field, we conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) of published work indexed in the ...Clarivate Web of Science and Elsevier Scopus databases. Four dominant topical areas were identified through bibliographic coupling. They are 1) consumers’ trust in CAs; 2) Natural Language Processing (NLP) in developing and designing CAs; 3) communication with CAs; 4) impact of CAs on value creation and the value of CAs for business. We leverage these findings to provide an updated synopsis of extant scientific work. Moreover, we draw a framework whereby we identify the: 1) drivers of and motivators for adoption and engagement with CAs; and 2) the outcomes of CA adoption for both users and organizations. Finally, we leverage the framework to develop an agenda for future research.
This study aims to review the scientific research on born global firms' phenomena to date. Based on a bibliometric analysis of 453 scientific papers on born global firms from the Thompson Reuters's ...Web of Science™ Core Collection database for the period 1994–2016, the authors discuss the results from the following perspectives: general results, number of publications per year, the articles that other authors cite most, most eminent authors, journals with the highest citation per article, institutions with the highest citation per document, and countries with the highest productivity. This analysis provides networks of co-cited references, journals, and first authors, and their respective clusters, revealing their rankings in terms of contributions to the born global firms' literature. The results of the analysis can be used to enhance our understanding of born global firms' research and support further research in this area.
•By employing a bibliometric analysis, this study has revealed the development of Born Globals' research.•Most cited references, journals and authors are identified.•Co-citation analysis confirmed existence of core reference clusters and clusters of “invisible colleges”.•The most relevant clusters of journals highlighted the dominance of Anglo-American journals.
This study identifies the main areas and current dynamics of the field of board diversity and suggests future research directions. Using a bibliometric analysis, we examine a sample of 579 studies ...from the ISI Web of Science database to identify research activity on board diversity between 1999 and early 2019. We find the most influential articles and authors based on their citations and publications as well as their location and importance within the network. We also examine current themes, find impediments to growth in the literature, and suggest avenues for future research. Although research activity on board diversity occurs globally, a lack of collaboration exists across country lines, especially between authors of developed and developing countries. Research on board diversity focuses on gender diversity, with relatively less attention on age, nationality, ethnicity, professional background, and cognition. We conclude by suggesting five potential research directions.
