The live broadcast of different, socially important events is nowadays no longer reserved only for radio and television. The live-ticker, a result of various media convergence processes, is a ...multimodal and interactive set of institutional reports, journalists’ and politicians’ opinions, pictures, short films and social media posts, that 24/7 provides the most up-to-date information on a specific topic. The article is an investigation into the media genre live-ticker with a focus on its multimodal structure, the language-image relations, as well as aspects of hypertextuality. Finally, I want to show what the live ticker differs from similar forms of online broadcasting. The corpus are three Danish live-tickers that provided the most detailed report on the trial of the Danish entrepreneur and designer Peter Madsen: bt.dk, ekstrabladet.dk and jyllands-posten.dk. Madsen murdered in 2017 a Swedish journalist Kim Wall, for which he was sentenced in April 2018 to life imprisonment.
The objective of this paper is to analyze the place of emotions within the Appraisal system (MARTIN & WHITE 2005). On the basis of the qualitative analysis of online comments from the newspapers ...Nezavisimaja.ru and Politika Online in Russian and Serbian, as well as on the basis of constructed examples in both languages, we define a relation between the subsystem of emotions and other subsystems within Appraisal.
The main goal of verbal metaphor interpretation is traditionally believed to be the recovery of a context-sensitive metaphorical meaning. One focus of experimental studies is to assess when and how ...pragmatic information derived from context shapes the online processing of specific utterances as conveying metaphorical, but not literal, messages. My aim in this article is to raise several critical complications with these beliefs. People employ metaphorical language not just to convey metaphorical meanings, but to concretely achieve various social, pragmatic goals. I describe several pragmatic complexities in the ways verbal and non-verbal metaphors function in communication. These pragmatic complexities affect both the cognitive effort and effects which emerge from interpreting metaphors in discourse. This conclusion suggests the need for new experimental studies and for theories of metaphor to be more sensitive to the influence of complex pragmatic goals in online metaphor interpretation.
•The importance of pragmatic complexities in metaphor use.•How metaphor understanding is more than metaphorical meaning alone.•The implication of complexity for figurative language interpretation.

The article explores the ways of displaying pleasure in the Russian language in order to show how the meaning of the analyzed concept varies in relation to the main values in some typical ...pleasure-situations.
The article is based on a lecture given 3 January 2021 at SWR in Baden-Baden. The presentation style was basically retained for this publication, but it was revised and updated. On the occasion of ...current discus- sions in Germany, the overview lecture dealt with the topic of framing, i.e. the question of whether and how much people‘s thinking and possibly actions are linguistically influenced. The lecture was designed to be cross-disciplinary and aimed at weighing up old and new research results. The topic is first de- scribed in its historical genesis and then discussed on the basis of empirically collected psychological, anthropological and social science data, but also on the basis of hermeneutically analyzed findings from literature. Historically, the question is based on the assumption that a language shapes or even determines the world experience of its speakers through its lexis and grammatical specificities. In this context, it was discussed whether different expressions of the same content can influence the addressees and thus manipulate them. It is shown that this can indeed be the case: Language can be very powerful in this regard. However, it also becomes clear that this is not valid indefinitely, since, conversely, material reality also has an impact on what we can and must express in and with our language(s). Totalitarian control through language can only happen for a short time, but is impossible in the long run.

In the last few years, a particular quantitative approach to the syntax-lexis interface has been developed: collostructional analysis (CA). This approach is an application of association measures to ...co-occurrence data from corpora, from a usage-based/cognitive-linguistic perspective. In spite of some popularity, this approach has come under criticism in Bybee (2010), who criticizes the method for several perceived shortcomings and advocates the use of raw frequencies/percentages instead. This paper has two main objectives. The first is to refute Bybee’s criticism on theoretical and empirical grounds; the second and further-reaching one is to outline, on the basis of what frequency data

look like, a cline of analytical approaches and, ultimately, a new perspective on the notion of construction based on this cline.
I will argue that the cognitive-linguistic enterprise should step up its efforts to embrace the social and pragmatic dimensions of language. This claim will be derived from a survey of the premises ...and promise of the cognitive-linguistic approach to the study of language and be defended in more detail on logical and empirical grounds. Key elements of a usage-based emergentist socio-cognitive approach known as Entrenchment-and-Conventionalization Model (
,
) will be presented in order to demonstrate how social and pragmatic aspects can be integrated and operationalized in a cognitive-linguistic framework.
Transitivity is a key topic in linguistic research. However, existing studies have mainly focused on physical events and generally ignored mental and social events. From the perspective of cognitive ...linguistics, this study resets transitivity parameters, depicts transitivity in the mental and social domains with these parameters, and analyzes the relationship of transitivity among different cognitive domains. The multi-domain property of transitivity, the metaphorical mapping of transitivity from the physical domain onto mental and social domains, and human cognition underlying the mapping process are revealed.
