Communication and information processes are vital in any company. The use of lean manufacturing concepts applied to the communication and information process aims to reduce waste and make the flows ...leaner and simpler. Lean information is a new strand of lean concepts and applications. The purpose of this study was to analyze quantitatively the publications concerning the subject, outlining an overview for the new research field of lean communication. Aiming for a deeper understanding, the concepts of lean information were applied in a real process. The quantitative analysis was carried out to find the main authors and works, as well as the main terms used in related works. We used the methods of citations works, co-citation references, and co-occurrence of words using the VOSviewer software. This software was primarily designed to analyze bibliometric networks in order to create, visualize, and assess maps based on network data generated from queries in journals. We found a lack of a methodology for the development and implementation of lean information concepts. We observed a gap which had not been addressed yet, that is, mapping communication flows and developing and implementing lean information. Moreover, there was no method for improvement, implementation, and control.
Social media influencers are integral to contemporary organizations' marketing strategies. Despite growing interest in the topic, there is scant knowledge of how organizations manage and collaborate ...with influencers in their content production during commercial collaborations. Drawing on semi-structured interviews and a semiotic analysis of social media content, this study elucidates the dynamics of organizations' commercial collaborations with influencers and discusses how influencers decode and transmit organizations' commercial messages to their followers in the destination marketing context. Social reality and commercial messages are enmeshed in the content narrative and interpreted by the influencer and their knowledge of their audience into what they could mean and become in the semiotic and symbolic landscapes of social media environments. Thus, an influencer's interpretation of organization's commercial messages is embedded in the social media environment.
The paper presents the results of a literature review on how social media can impact on disaster risk perception and vulnerability and how these two aspects are interconnected, trying to understand ...what factors have consequences especially on informational vulnerability. The paper answers to the increasing requests at an international level to move from a technocratic approach to disaster risk management and reduction to a holistic one, where social perspective is integrated. The paper states that this change of paradigm is relevant, especially considering the role that new technologies in communication and information systems are acquiring in disaster risk management and reduction. What emerges from the literature review is that there is a limited scientific production on the topic and further works are desired, to improve knowledge on how new communication and information technologies can impact on vulnerability and risk perception. Furthermore, the two topics are usually discussed separately. However, the role that risk perception can have in increasing or reducing vulnerability deserves to be better discussed.
This article was designed to make the communication process as clear as possible, while knowing that communication is an essential process in the lives of both individuals and organizations. ...Individuals as natural persons and organizations as legal entities find it impossible to exist without effective communication. On the one hand, individuals communicate with others in order to meet their needs, desires and requirements. On the other hand, the communication process in the internal environment of the organization, depending on the direction of flow, enables the distribution of power and authority, clarification of tasks and responsibilities, cooperation between members of groups and work teams, while in the external environment, communication enables organizations to share experiences, to collaborate, to create strategic alliances, etc. So, this article presents a theoretical and practical overview of the communication process in organizations, and it is related to the study of this process in enterprises in Kosovo.
A sustainable information and communication flow (ICF) supports lifelines in floods, especially transport systems. A detailed insight into barriers regarding effective ICF through the implementation ...of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the lifecycle of floods was given for evolved and evolving economies, i.e., York and Head-Marala, with sample sizes of 240 and 300 experts, respectively. All experts responded on an ethically approved questionnaire with further information notes that were used whilst discoursing the factors. ICTs were segregated into two groups, ranging from simple to advanced technologies. KMO and Bartlett’s tests confirmed high sampling adequacy with values ranging from 0.679 to 0.823 (≥0.5) with p-values ≤ 0.05. An amended version of Q-Methodology was used to identify nine factors in total. Each factor with an Eigenvalue ≥1 was retained, and all factors were highly reliable with values between 0.89 and 0.96. Factors were explained through communalities, factor loadings, pattern and structure matrices, and notes from experts. Results showed that under-evolved economies have limited technological resources and under-developed flood coping plans compared to evolved economies. Also, the unacknowledged possibility was uncovered that ICF can certainly be sustained if all possibly available ICTs are engaged through a thorough deployment plan of action. Authorities needed to make ICT engagement plans simple and efficient through effective coordination among different institutions. Though authorities were trained and equipped with modern tools, equipment, and technologies, dense and dependent populations overwhelmed the rescue capabilities. Other than VMS, social media pages, and radio, other ICTs were not tried and tested in floods for the exchange of transport–flood ICF. These findings are useful for stakeholders from all communities, transport planning institutions, and flood managers who are not fully benefiting from the extended use of ICTs to manage travel activities in floods.
Abstract This paper investigates the perceptions of professionals (emergency organizations: authorities and first responders) regarding the usage of social media versus the perceptions of the public ...regarding their expectations concerning the use of social media in communicating emergencies and disasters. It provides a novel perspective on the alignment between perceptions and expectations in disaster social media usage, delving into the structural constraints and opportunities of current practices. The research incorporates qualitative interviews with emergency professionals, a quantitative survey of the general population, and content analysis of social media interactions across seven countries (Israel, Italy, Spain, France, Sweden, Norway, and Romania), aiming to discern differing viewpoints on social media's role in crises. It underscores the variations and commonalities between authorities/first responders and the public's perspectives, revealing differences in acceptance and concerns regarding social media use among these stakeholders. The analysis identified three primary themes: cognitive needs, integrative needs, and communication flow, each with specific, interconnected subthemes. These insights emphasize the need for a better understanding of these diverse perspectives to enhance disaster communication. The paper suggests that effectively utilizing social media and crowdsourcing technologies can help bridge the gap between emergency services and the public, fostering more disaster‐resilient societies.
摘要 本文研究了专业人员（应急组织:当局和急救人员）对社交媒体使用的感知，以及公众对“使用社交媒体传播紧急情况和灾害”的期望感知。本文提供了一个新颖视角来看待灾害社交媒体使用中的感知与期望之间的一致性，深入研究了当前实践的结构性限制和机遇。本研究结合了对应急专业人员的定性访谈、对一般人群的定量调查以及对七个国家（以色列、意大利、西班牙、法国、瑞典、挪威和罗马尼亚）社交媒体互动的内容分析，旨在辨别关于“社交媒体在危机中发挥的作用”的不同观点。本文强调了当局/急救人员与公众观点之间的差异和共性，揭示了这些利益攸关方在社交媒体使用的接受度和关切方面的差异。分析确定了三个主题:认知需求、综合需求和传播流程，每个主题都有特定的、相互关联的子主题。这些见解强调，需要更好地理解这些不同的观点，以增强灾害传播。本文表明，有效利用社交媒体和众包技术能帮助弥合应急服务与公众之间的差距，从而培养更具抗灾能力的社会。
Resumen Este artículo investiga las percepciones de los profesionales (organizaciones de emergencia: autoridades y socorristas) con respecto al uso de las redes sociales versus las percepciones del público con respecto a sus expectativas sobre el uso de las redes sociales para comunicar emergencias y desastres. Proporciona una perspectiva novedosa sobre la alineación entre las percepciones y expectativas en el uso de las redes sociales en caso de desastres, profundizando en las limitaciones estructurales y las oportunidades de las prácticas actuales. La investigación incorpora entrevistas cualitativas con profesionales de emergencias, una encuesta cuantitativa de la población general y análisis de contenido de las interacciones en las redes sociales en siete países (Israel, Italia, España, Francia, Suecia, Noruega y Rumania), con el objetivo de discernir diferentes puntos de vista sobre El papel de las redes sociales en las crisis. Subraya las variaciones y puntos en común entre las autoridades/socorristas y las perspectivas del público, revelando diferencias en la aceptación y preocupaciones con respecto al uso de las redes sociales entre estas partes interesadas. El análisis identificó tres temas principales: necesidades cognitivas, necesidades integradoras y flujo de comunicación, cada uno con subtemas específicos e interconectados. Estos conocimientos enfatizan la necesidad de una mejor comprensión de estas diversas perspectivas para mejorar la comunicación en casos de desastre. El documento sugiere que utilizar eficazmente las redes sociales y las tecnologías de crowdsourcing puede ayudar a cerrar la brecha entre los servicios de emergencia y el público, fomentando sociedades más resilientes a los desastres.
The purpose of this study aimed to explain the flow of communication in Indonesian female migrant workers' protection by the government through the Migrant Worker Family Community (KKBM). The method ...used in this study was qualitative with a case study approach. The existence of Indonesian female migrant workers has contributed to state revenues of up to US$ 10.97 billion in 2018. This income is higher than the state income of the mining sector. The amount of income provided by female migrant workers to the country is not proportional to the protection services they receive. Most female migrant workers and families preferred to keep the case they face and would report it when it becomes a crisis. Some claims faced by female migrant workers conflict with a employer because of unpaid salaries and inappropriate work. It happens because female migrant workers and families do not know the flow of the case reporting scheme. The pathway for protecting female migrant workers involves a variety of government agencies and private companies. Each institution has its protection program, such as the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian migrant workers (BNP2TKI), the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Indonesian Migrant Workers Distribution Company, without explicit coordination between each institution. One of the aspects of protection strategies through the BNP2TKI is to create the Migrant Worker Family Community (KKBM) as a bridge in providing protection services directly to female migrant workers and families. The program is run bottom-up by involving Ex-migrant workers as the driving force (CO); one of them is like in the Cirebon district. Government communication with female migrant workers and families through Cirebon KKBM is carried out in a multi-step flow communication by combining direct communication and media. The KKBM communicated directly to female migrant workers (candidates) and families to socialize programs supported by pamphlets regarding job vacancy, people's business credit submission procedures, information about the BP2TKI's regulation, and other supporting information. The results of the assistance are then reported by the provincial government (BP3TKI) via telephone or WhatsApp Group and required meetings. Unfortunately, the KKBM socialization process was hampered by the busy activities of the KKBM activists and the government, which focused on the success of this program on the KKBM's CO with a minimal budget and supporting facilities...
Business process redesign has been intensely studied, particularly since the mid 1990s. One aspect that received little attention, however, is the relationship between business process modeling ...choices and redesign success. This research gap is addressed through a multi-methods study of 18 business process redesign projects conducted in 18 different organizations. A structural equation model is developed and tested based on data collected from those projects; the results are then triangulated with qualitative data. The structural equation model depicts relationships between the following broad perceptual constructs: communication flow orientation of a business process model, quality of a business process model, and business process redesign success. The communication flow orientation of a business process model is defined as the extent to which a model explicitly shows how communication interactions take place in a process. A model's perceived quality is defined as the degree to which the model presents the following perceptual sub-constructs: ease of generation, ease of understanding, completeness, and accuracy. The results of the study suggest that the degree of communication flow orientation of a business process model is significantly related to the model's perceived quality. Perceived model quality, in turn, is significantly related to perceived business process redesign success. Interestingly, a business process model's perceived completeness does not seem to be influenced by a model's communication flow orientation. The structural equation model accounted for 56% of the explained variance in the business process redesign success construct. The main implication of this study is that a focus on communication flows in business processes is an important ingredient in successful business process redesign projects.
Abstract The text aims to address the issue of the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in disaster risk management (DRM) models. It is based on the different forms of ...understanding and representation of time in management models. As a result of the literature review, it is argued that the communication flows in the DRM may have three cognitive characters ICTs: a) multisignified; b) multidirectional and multilevel; c) multidimensional. The literature review, used as the main method to develop this argument, structured the text into four main parts: 1) Disaster management models; 2) Use of ICTs in DRM; 3) Communication flow; 4) Final considerations.
Resumo O texto tem como objetivo abordar a temática da utilização das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação (TICs) nos modelos de gestão dos riscos de desastres (GRD). Tem como base as diferentes formas de entendimento e representação do tempo nos modelos de gestão. Como resultado da revisão bibliográfica desenvolvida, argumenta-se que os fluxos de comunicação na GRD podem possuir três características cognitivas: a) multisignificado; b) multidirecional e multinível; c) multidimensional. A revisão bibliográfica, utilizada como principal método para desenvolver esse argumento, estruturou o texto em quatro partes principais: 1) Modelos de gestão dos desastres; 2) Uso das TICs na GRD; 3) Fluxo de comunicação; 4) Considerações finais.

In mobile devices, multiple applications contend for limited resources in the underlying embedded system framework. Application resource requirements in mobile systems vary by computation needs, energy consumption and user interaction frequency. Quality of service (QoS) is the predominant metric of choice to manage resources among contending applications. Resource allocation policies to support static QoS for applications do not reflect the changing demands of the user in contemporary network on chip (NoC) based embedded architectures. User satisfaction with the user interactions and user interface design ought to be the primary design driver. Some recent research has integrated a saturating, non-linear user satisfaction function in the application thread scheduler. The application and operating system level user satisfaction research assumes that the throughput of inter-thread edges is limited only by the computational constraints of the nodes. With NoC, however, NoC resource allocation policies play an important role in determining the inter-thread communication flow’s throughput and the resulting application level user satisfaction. In this paper, we filter down the user satisfaction from an application layer attribute to a router level attribute to improve the resource and energy utilization for routing in order to leverage the user satisfaction at the application and system level. We demonstrate that this technique improves the user satisfaction of audio (MP3) application by 10% while maintaining the user satisfaction of video (MPEG-2) application. Experiments also show that a fixed energy source can be extended for an average of 18% of the time using the NoC user satisfaction based energy optimization proposed in this research.
