In this paper, a state-of-the-art literature review is presented emphasising on the development of control variants for mass damper schemes on building-like structures. Additionally, a systematic ...literature review is conducted addressing three relevant questions: What type of mass damper is preferable by the associated industry? How are mass dampers distributed around the world? Is industry following research? Through the systematic literature review, updated lists of mass damper implementations and control algorithm applications in real-life structures were compiled. 208 case-studies are discussed in total. It is found that, 63% of them refer to passive tuned mass dampers, 31% to hybrid mass dampers, 4.0% to active mass dampers and only 2% to semi-active mass dampers. Regarding control algorithms, controllers of 24 structures driving semi-active, active or hybrid mass dampers are presented. It is concluded that the industry considerably lags behind latest structural control research both regarding implementations and overall management.
•A latest review of passive, semi-active, active and hybrid structural control is presented.•An up-to-date list of 208 full-scale structural control applications for building-like structures is devised from literature.•A list of control algorithms applied on real building-like structures is compiled for first time ever.•As per literature, over half the full-scale structural control applications globally are in Asia (120 applications (57.7%)).•The majority of the full-scale mass damper applications are passive tuned mass dampers (PTMDs) (63%).•Past 2005, adoption of hybrid mass dampers (HMDs) considerably decreased in contrast to their passive equivalents (PTMDs).
En este trabajo se propone un filtrado adaptativo que incluye una etapa de calibración automática para la adquisición de señales EMG (Electromiografía). Se propone una técnica innovadora llamada ...“calibración automática” para minimizar el ruido provocado por el contacto de la piel con los sensores utilizados (electrodos) en condiciones de actividad física. Se utiliza filtrado adaptativo considerando que tanto la actividad física como la sudoración en personas son factores que alteran las condiciones de medición. La experimentación se ha realizado con personas que han desarrollado actividad física con diferentes condiciones de esfuerzo. Se ha utilizado la mejora relativa de la relación señal-ruido (RI-SNR) para comparar la técnica propuesta con filtros adaptativos que usan “ruido blanco” como señal de referencia. Este trabajo estuvo enfocado en los estimadores: Wiener, LMS y RLS, con mediciones realizadas antes y después de la actividad física. La técnica propuesta presenta una mejora de hasta un 45,49%, comparada con la correspondiente que utiliza “ruido blanco” para la calibración.
A sliding mode observer (SMO) design and convergence analysis are presented in this paper, which includes a rigorous treatment to address multiple discontinuities in the resulting estimation error ...dynamics. In an extension of our previous SMO results, the current work provides a non-trivial reworking of the SMO estimation error system development and stability analysis that incorporates differential inclusions. The specific contributions presented in this paper beyond the previous work include: (1) A differential inclusions-based analysis of the SMO, which incorporates the set-valued definition of the discontinuous signum function; (2) An expanded derivation of the estimation error dynamics, which emphasises advantageous properties particular to our SMO structure; (3) A Lyapunov-based stability analysis of the SMO, that rigorously incorporates the multiple discontinuities in the estimation error dynamics. The Lyapunov-based stability analysis proves that the SMO achieves finite-time estimation of the complete state vector, where the output equation is in a nonstandard mathematical form. To test the performance of the SMO, numerical simulation results are also provided, which demonstrate the capability of the SMO to estimate the state of a fluid flow dynamic system using only a single sensor measurement of the flow field velocity.
We consider a general nonzero-sum impulse game with two players. The main mathematical contribution of this paper is a verification theorem that provides, under some regularity conditions, a suitable ...system of quasi-variational inequalities for the payoffs and the strategies of the two players at some Nash equilibrium. As an application, we study an impulse game with a one-dimensional state variable, following a real-valued scaled Brownian motion, and two players with linear and symmetric running payoffs. We fully characterize a family of Nash equilibria and provide explicit expressions for the corresponding equilibrium strategies and payoffs. We also prove some asymptotic results with respect to the intervention costs. Finally, we consider two further nonsymmetric examples where a Nash equilibrium is found numerically.
The aims of this paper to explore the dynamics of the vector-host disease with saturated treatment function. Initially, we formulate the model by considering three different classes for human and two ...for the vector population. The use of the treatment function in the model and their brief analysis for the case of disease-free and endemic case are briefly shown. We show that the basic reproduction number ( ) than unity, the disease-free and endemic cases are stable locally and globally. Further, we apply the optimal control technique by choosing four control variables in order to maximize the population of susceptible and recovered human and to minimize the population of infected humans and vector. We discuss the results in details of the optimal controls model and show their existence. Furthermore, we solve the optimality system numerically in connection with the system of no control and the optimal control characterization together with adjoint system, and consider a set of different controls to simulate the models. The considerable best possible strategy that can best minimize the infection in human infected individuals is the use of all controls simultaneously. Finally, we conclude that the work with effective control strategies.
This article is motivated by the pressing need to robustly automate clinical interventions for trauma‐induced coagulopathy (TIC). TIC occurs after severe trauma and shock, and has poor outcomes and ...about 30% mortality. Although modulating the blood proteins that drive TIC can improve patient outcomes, no practical control‐oriented methodology exists to accurately capture biochemical process dynamics and satisfactorily regulate clotting. Hence, we propose a nonlinear dynamic coagulation model that distills the complex biochemical reactions of clotting and also simultaneously generalizes an existing linear phenomenological model. Using our new nonlinear model, we demonstrate the feasibility of model predictive control (MPC) to automate clinical treatments, first in a single‐input case that is similar to current open‐loop clinical practice, and second in a multi‐input case that administers three blood proteins as system inputs to attain satisfactory TIC treatment. The output in both cases is the key clotting protein thrombin. To test robustness, we confirm that both single‐input and multi‐input MPC are suitable for TIC treatment in the presence of an experimentally observed nonlinearity, an unknown state‐dependent power law input delay. Thus, this article provides a strong foundation to transition current open‐loop clinical approaches to closed‐loop process control.
Abstract
The main objective of this work is to propose novel finite‐time algorithms to either invert a time‐varying map or to estimate the state of a time‐varying nonlinear plant. The former goal is ...pursued by using a sliding mode version of the Newton algorithm, whereas the latter objective is achieved by resorting to the inverse of the Jacobian matrix of the observability map to implement a sliding mode differentiator in the original coordinates. Finally, it is shown how these two techniques can be efficiently used to solve some relevant space applications, such as the estimation of the angular velocity of an axial symmetric satellite, the estimation of the inertia parameters of an orbiting object from measurements of its angular velocities, and the estimation of a Keplerian orbital element given measurements of the other five ones.
Abstract
The selection of uncertainty structures is an important aspect of system identification for robust control. The aim of this paper is to provide insight into uncertain multivariable systems ...for robust control. A unified method for visualizing model sets is developed by generating Bode plots of multivariable uncertain systems, both in magnitude and phase. In addition, these model sets are compared from the viewpoint of the control objective, allowing a quantitative analysis as well. An experimental case study on an automotive transmission application demonstrates these connections and confirms the importance of the developed framework for control applications. In addition, the experimental results provide new insights into the shape of associated model sets by using the presented visualization procedure. Both the theoretical and experimental results confirm that a recently developed robust‐control‐relevant uncertainty structure outperforms general dual‐Youla‐Kučera uncertainty, which in turn outperforms traditional uncertainty structures, including additive uncertainty.
In this letter we present a deterministic discrete-time networked SEIR model that includes a number of transportation networks, and present assumptions under which it is well defined. We analyze the ...limiting behavior of the model and present necessary and sufficient conditions for estimating the spreading parameters from data. We illustrate these results via simulation and with real COVID-19 data from the Northeast United States, integrating transportation data into the results.
