Blockchain has the potential to improve the efficiency and transparency of maritime businesses and operations. Nevertheless, few studies have been conducted to identify the key challenges and ...critical success factors (CSFs) of blockchain implementation in the maritime industry. A case study approach based on Singapore’s maritime industry is adopted. Four interviews are conducted to establish the face validity of the survey questionnaire before data are collected from 30 maritime professionals from Singapore’s maritime industry. In addition to analytic hierarchical process (AHP), a fishbone diagram and PESTEL analysis are also adopted to organize and discuss the results. The results show that there are six key challenges and six CSFs for blockchain implementation. Using a fishbone diagram, the six identified challenges along with 13 personal concerns are categorized into five dimensions related to people, methods, organization, external environment, and technology. The CSFs are sufficient capital, staff training, ease of local legislation, support from the shipping community, support from the senior management, and professional consultation and assistance. This study implicates marine policy formulation in relation to subsidies and investments, blockchain talent and knowledge acquisition, and workforce training and education to accelerate blockchain implementation in the maritime industry.

This study looks at the critical success factors (CSFs) affecting integration of sustainability into project management practices of construction projects in developing countries. Having innovation ...diffusion theory as the theoretical point of departure, CSFs pertaining to the triple bottom line of sustainability (environmental, social and economic) were identified through a comprehensive review of literature. These were customised for the context of developing countries by conducting 16 semi-structured interviews and were presented in form of a conceptual model. The model was validated through a survey returning 101 completed questionnaires with partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) as the method of analysis. This study contributes to the field by presenting one of the first studies in its kind focusing on CSFs for integration of sustainability into project management practices for construction projects within the context of developing countries.

Blockchain technology implementation in a circular supply chain management (CSCM) context is an emerging topic that involves complex processes and diverse goals. This study aims to develop a ...framework that describes the main phases of Blockchain-enabled CSCM and evaluates the critical success factors of Blockchain implementation for CSCM. Further, we employed a combined analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method to explore the priorities and relationships of success factors using evaluations from academic and professional experts. The outcome of the AHP analysis shows that the success factors related to technology, such as technical capability, technological maturity, and technological feasibility, play critical roles in CSCM. Furthermore, the DEMATEL analysis suggests that knowledge training and data security should be regarded as essential causal factors influencing other factors. The results provide a possible path for determining critical success factors and facilitating Blockchain-enabled CSCM.

The Critical Success Factors for Public–Private Partnership is a major research interest worldwide therefore this paper aims to methodically review studies on the CSFs for implementing PPP from some ...selected top tier academic journals from 1990 to 2013 (years inclusive). The search results indicated an increased research interest in the exploration of PPP CSFs since 1990. The mostly identified CSFs are risk allocation and sharing, strong private consortium, political support, community/public support and transparent procurement. It was further noticed that Australia, the U.K., China and Hong Kong have been the countries of focus for most research studies on PPP CSFs. Finally the research approaches adopted are case study, questionnaire survey and mixed methods. The findings revealed provide an overview of CSFs for PPPs in order to enhance future implementations. Moreover a checklist of CSFs for PPPs has been developed, which could be adopted for further empirical studies.

This work makes the case for integrating two industrial waves that promise to re-shape current patterns of production and consumption: Industry 4.0 and environmentally-sustainable manufacturing. We ...argue that, although these two trends cannot be considered an industrial revolution, Industry 4.0-associated technologies nevertheless have the unique potential to unlock environmentally-sustainable manufacturing. Productive synergy between Industry 4.0 and environmentally-sustainable manufacturing relies on understanding the role played by eleven critical success factors, which organisations should consider carefully when simultaneously implementing Industry 4.0 and environmentally-sustainable manufacturing. As this is one of the first works to address whether or not Industry 4.0 can synergistically boost environmentally-sustainable manufacturing – with an emphasis on the critical success factors that can pose challenges and opportunities to this process – we also propose an integrative framework containing twelve research propositions. We hope this will stimulate the debate on the intersection of manufacturing waves, in particular the integration of Industry 4.0 and environmentally-sustainable manufacturing.

Conducting a digital transformation is one of the major challenges for today’s companies as it is usually associated with a high risk. The reasons for this are manifold. Technologies are still ...evolving and there is no coherent standard for digital platforms enabling digitalization. Furthermore, it is not only about introducing new technology but also requires a fundamental change in an organization and its culture. Consequently, planning a digital transformation project (or program) requires a careful analysis of the company’s current situation and the envisioned objectives. This article investigates critical success factors for preparing and executing such a transformation. The success factors are identified by conducting a structured literature analysis. 13 scientific papers are identified and then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The quantitative analysis is conducted by using force-directed network graphs. Both methods are then compared and discussed. The result shows that most critical success factors are related to the business change rather than to introducing technology. Leadership, strategy, vision, corporate culture, and customer centricity play a stronger role than a digital platform.
University-industry R&D collaborations (UICs) play a vital role in stimulating open innovation that leads to new products, processes, and services that creates value for customers and broader ...societal impact. UICs, however, commonly fail to meet these stakeholders’ benefits. This study identifies thirty-four critical success factors (CSFs) for improving UIC success. The study includes a systematic literature review and a longitudinal UIC case study between Bosch Car Multimedia in Portugal and University of Minho, a multi-million Euro R&D collaboration from 2013 to 2021. The importance of the CSFs is discussed in the context of the UIC lifecycle. A survey among researchers and industry practitioners involved in R&D collaborative projects was completed to confirm the analysis of the empirical results. This paper provides UIC managers with CSFs, which, when addressed competently, can provide a basis for successful UIC projects and sustainable university-industry collaborations.

Industrial augmented reality (IAR) is one of the key pillars of the industrial digitalisation concepts, which connects workers with the physical world through overlaying digital information. Augmented reality (AR) market is increasing but still its adoption levels are low in industry. While companies strive to learn and adopt AR, there are chances that they fail in such endeavours due to lack of understanding key challenges and success factors in this space. This study identifies critical success factors and challenges for IAR implementation projects based on field experiments. The broadly used technology, organisation, environment (TOE) framework was used as a theoretical basis for the study, while 22 experiments were conducted for validation. It is found that, while technological aspects are of importance, organisational issues are more relevant for industry, which has not been reflected to the same extent in the literature.
This paper presents a case study on ERP implementation and how organizational culture impact and influences the implementation. The study builds on semi-structured interviews and an interpretive ...qualitative method. Organizational culture and ERP implementation has been explored previous. However, there are different opinions on the role it plays. The findings from this study is that it is a major factor that heavily influences a set of other critical success factors. This mean that in order to have a successful ERP implementation it is important to have an understanding of existing organizational culture and treat that as an influencing factor on other critical success factors.
