Background
Although the incidence of cervical cancer has decreased since the 1980s in Korea, it remains high among the elderly women. This study evaluated the suitability of cervical cancer screening ...for elderly Korean women aged ≥65 years according to recommendations by the American Society of Cytopathology and American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
Methods
We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients who underwent cervical cancer screening, followed by liquid‐based Pap test, human papillomavirus (HPV) test, and colposcopic punch biopsy at two academic hospitals from May 2008 to May 2018. The participants were divided into two groups <65 and ≥65 years old. Logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the association between cytology tests, HPV tests and the occurrence of high‐risk lesions, ≥cervical intraepithelial neoplasia2 (CIN2).
Results
The mean patient age was 49.02 ± 15.437 (range 15–91) years. No patients aged <25 years showed atypical squamous cell‐cannot exclude high grade (ASC‐H), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), or adenocarcinoma (ADC). The incidence of high‐grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HISL) (39.7%) and ≥CIN 3 (40.2%) was significantly higher in patients ≥65 years of age than in other age groups. However, patients ≥65 years showed increased HSIL and HPV negativity and ASC‐H, HSIL, and HPV positivity in those with ≥CIN 2 (both p = .043).
Conclusion
Korean women aged ≥65 years should undergo cervical cancer screening. The relevance of HPV or Cytology test alone or co‐test for screening should be evaluated in this population.
Background & Aims: Given the increasing elderly population in Iran, it seems necessary to pay attention to the general health of the elderly women without a spouse, who constitute a significant ...percentage of the elderly population in Iran. This study aimed to compare the general health and happiness of elderly women with and without a spouse referred to Bandar Abbas health centers in 2018. Materials & Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was performed on 390 elderly women with and without a spouse, using the quota cluster sampling method. Data were collected using three questionnaires (demographic, Goldberg and Hillier's General Health, and Oxford Happiness) and were processed using SPSS software v. 21. Results: In this study, out of 260 elderly women with a spouse, 218 (83.8%), and out of 130 elderly women without a spouse, 83 (63.8%) were under 70 years old. Most women without a spouse (67.6%) and a spouse (65%) have 5 to 9 children. About half of women in the two groups (48.5% in the group with a spouse and 50% in the other group) had primary education, most (94.2% in the group with a spouse, and 95.4% in the group without a spouse) were housewives. In terms of economic status, most of the two groups (61.5% of each group) were at a moderate level. The two groups were homogeneous regarding demographic variables except for age and years of living with a spouse (P<0.001). Conclusion: The results showed that the average general health score in both groups was lower than the cut-off points for the whole test (23), which indicates the excellent health level of most of these women. But the average health score in this study is higher than the results of the Yazdani study in Tehran. (Yazdani, 2010), and Nejati study in Qom (Nejati, 2005). The study also found that the mean happiness score was higher in married women, but this difference was not statistically significant. (P=0.17). Other factors besides having a spouse, such as the quality of marital life, also play a role in the mental health of older women.
This qualitative research attempts to study the lived experiences of elderly women living in nursing houses of Khorramabad city in the field of social exclusion. To do this, we have used grounded ...theory to analyze the causal conditions, intervening conditions and consequences of elderly women’s lived experiences of social exclusion. The subjects were selected through purposeful sampling from the residents of Haj Seddique and Farzanegan nursing house. The data were gathered by way of deep semi-structured interview. The findings show that the causal conditions of social exclusions are: women’s lack of independent economic status (lack of financial support and loss of ability to work), decline of traditional solidarity in the family (decline of mothers’ authority, generational gap, the growth of individualism) and the transformation of lifestyles (transformation of home’s equipment, semantic change of family labor and the domination of gender bias). These are activated through some intervening conditions such as: extreme pessimism and feeling of loneliness. The first one is characterized by mistrust in society and internal vulnerability; and the second factor can be observed in nostalgia for a golden past and the feeling of being forgotten. It is in this way that they feel that they are dis-embedded from the life-world and thrown into the way of gradual death. So, they represent some symptoms such as silence/ aggressiveness, feeling of rootlessness and self-illness. Or, they believe in extreme fatalism and dying experiences.
Background & Aim: Feelings of loneliness can affect the mental health of the elderly and lead to cognitive problems. As a potentially effective treatment approach, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) ...has emerged as an intervention to alleviate loneliness among the elderly. This study aims to determine the effect of CBT on alleviating loneliness among elderly women referred to health centers in Khomeini Shahr. Methods & Materials: This quasi-experimental study was conducted in 2020 on a sample of 60 elderly women who had been referred to health centers in Khomeini Shahr. The participants were conveniently selected and then randomly assigned to either the intervention or control groups. Data were collected using a demographic information form and the Deshiri et al’s loneliness questionnaire, which were administered before, immediately after, and one month after the intervention. The intervention group received eight counseling sessions of CBT that lasted for 60 minutes each, while the control group did not receive any counseling. Data analysis was carried out using the SPSS software version 23, employing descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The results obtained from conducting a two-way repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a significant statistical difference in the mean score of loneliness resulting from communication with family, the score of emotional symptoms of loneliness and the total score of loneliness in the intervention group before and after the intervention (P<0.001). However, no statistically significant difference was observed in the control group (P>0.05). Furthermore, when comparing the mean score of loneliness resulting from communication with friends in the intervention group, no statistically significant difference was observed before and after the intervention (P=0.094). Similarly, no statistically significant difference was observed in the control group (P=0.338). Conclusion: The results of the current study indicate that CBT is an effective approach to alleviate loneliness in elderly women. Therefore, it is suggested that this method be implemented as a means to reduce feelings of loneliness among elderly women.
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes joint inflammation. Elderly, especially women are more susceptible to RA due to hormonal factors. RA patient often feel inconvenient ...during physical activity because of pain in their joint. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of physical activity on elderly woman with Rheumatoid Arthritis. This research is a literature study using traditional review method. Journal article studies were searched in Google Scholar, OneSearch Indonesia, and Garuda in Bahasa and English language that published online from 2012-2022 according to keywords. Of 9.030 studies from databases identified 30 journal studies were included. Literature studies show that the prevalence of elderly women with RA is higher than men. These studies also shows that severity of RA affects the ability of elderly to do a physical activity and physical activity itself influences reducing pain and preventing the severity of RA. The conclusion of this study is that the prevalence of elderly women with RA is higher than men and physical activity is associated with RA. Suggestions for future researchers to focus more on treatments that can be done to reduce the risk of Rheumatoid Arthritis in elderly.

Objective: The study was undertaken to assess homocysteine levels among economically deprived elderly women in Delhi. Methods: The study was carried out among elderly women aged 60–70 years residing ...in Kirti Nagar slums of West Delhi. Blood samples were collected, and serum homocysteine was analyzed using chemiluminescent immunometric assay. Hyperhomocysteinemia was defined as serum homocysteine >15 μmol/l. Dietary information was also collected using 24 h dietary recall method and food frequency questionnaire. Results: The prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia was 16.9%. The mean serum homocysteine was 12.35±6.43 μmol/l. Serum homocysteine levels ranged from 3.84 to 35.20 μmol/l. It was observed that hyperhomocysteinemia was higher in vegetarians (31.2%) compared to non-vegetarians (6.7%).Conclusion: The prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia is higher among vegetarians than non-vegetarians. Further, research is necessary to see the effect of elevated homocysteine in multiple age-related diseases.
Immunotherapy using either checkpoint blockade or the adoptive transfer of antitumor lymphocytes has shown effectiveness in treating cancers with high levels of somatic mutations-such as melanoma, ...smoking-induced lung cancers and bladder cancer-with little effect in other common epithelial cancers that have lower mutation rates, such as those arising in the gastrointestinal tract, breast and ovary
. Adoptive transfer of autologous lymphocytes that specifically target proteins encoded by somatically mutated genes has mediated substantial objective clinical regressions in patients with metastatic bile duct, colon and cervical cancers
. We present a patient with chemorefractory hormone receptor (HR)-positive metastatic breast cancer who was treated with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) reactive against mutant versions of four proteins-SLC3A2, KIAA0368, CADPS2 and CTSB. Adoptive transfer of these mutant-protein-specific TILs in conjunction with interleukin (IL)-2 and checkpoint blockade mediated the complete durable regression of metastatic breast cancer, which is now ongoing for >22 months, and it represents a new immunotherapy approach for the treatment of these patients.
