Continued progress in the tourism industry and rapid technological advances have pointed to the continued need for well-educated managers in the event sector. Attempts at professionalizing have also ...identified formal tertiary education and industry training to be significant components
in these efforts, and although there is a clear association between education and the needs of the industry, the correlation has often been questioned. This discussion examines the prevailing, but limited discourse on event management skills and attributes, analyzes its implications, and offers
several explicit research propositions to advance knowledge using job advertisement analysis. These suggestions will be of benefit to formal education providers and the event sector as an international agenda for event management skilling is advanced.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of primary liver cancer. Sorafenib, regorafenib, lenvatinib and cabozantinib are tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) that target, in part, vascular endothelial growth factor receptors, and are approved in various regions of the world for the treatment of advanced HCC. All these agents are associated with a range of adverse events (AEs) that can have a substantial impact on patients’ health-related quality of life. Fatigue, diarrhoea, hand–foot skin reaction, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, hypertension and weight loss are among the most common AEs experienced with these four TKIs. In this review, we discuss strategies for the management of these AEs in patients with advanced HCC, with the aim of maximizing treatment benefits and minimizing the need for TKI treatment discontinuation. We also consider potential TKI–drug interactions and discuss the use of TKIs in patients with liver dysfunction or who have experienced tumour recurrence after liver transplantation. Use of appropriate AE management strategies and avoidance of contraindicated drugs should help patients with advanced HCC to achieve optimal outcomes with TKIs.
Background: One of the most task-relevant attributes in contemporary business environments relates to effective time management. Time management is directly related to employees' psychological ...impacts; it influences work-related aspects such as stress, employee turnover, well-being, job satisfaction, and job performance.Purpose of the study: The study determines the psychological impacts of time management on employees within a sector high in time demand and dependent on pre-set deadlines – event management, which is an under-examined business sector.Design/methodology/approach: An explanatory, deductive research approach was selected where an existing theoretical framework was applied to a sector high in time demand. The study used a quantitative approach – using a self-administered questionnaire representing the different dimensions identified in the time management environment (TiME) measurement scale – to collect data from 151 respondents in South Africa (RSA). Hierarchical regression analyses were performed to measure psychological impacts on employees based on their time management practicesFindings: Positive and negative psychological impacts were experienced based on the dimensions on the TiME scale. Positive psychological experiences resulted from the avoidance of procrastination, setting of deadlines, sufficient supervisory and procedural support, and sound time allocation. However, the tendency to focus on only one task could negatively influence the psychological impacts.Recommendations/value: The cost of employees experiencing negative psychological impacts is high and could lead to stress, procrastination, and demotivation. This could lead to loss of productivity, missed deadlines, and loss of contracts. To prevent these negative impacts, organisations could add policy recommendations to implement effective time management dailyManagerial implication: The study’s significance pertains to implementing time management practices to benefit the psyche of employees and employers, thus ultimately benefiting the organisation.
Promises are often made to potential stakeholders in exchange for supporting the initiative to host an event. This creates high expectations, which often fail to materialise. A unique characteristic ...of event projects is that time is a more critical constraint than in most other types of projects, as it is crucial that the event can be held on the planned date. Previous studies suggest the need for more actively planning the expected outcomes from an event and not just focusing on the event itself. In this article, we investigate the goal definition process in sports event projects to gain more insight into how organisers of events can meet stakeholder expectations. A single case study was performed on the World Cup Ski Tour 2020, where we conducted 50 h of observations and fifteen interviews. We contribute with lessons learned and recommendations for how future event organisers can define goals to meet stakeholder expectations. Furthermore, we introduce a stakeholder expectations matrix for event-type projects.
Event Management is a well-established international journal in event, festival, and culture management, which has published high-quality peer-reviewed research from the last 20 years. The current ...study represents a retrospective overview of the journal's publication journey
over the previous 14 years from 2006 to 2020. This period was chosen due to the availability of data in Scopus. The number of publications and citations received by these publications globally has exhibited continuous growth, which signifies the journal's widespread presence. This article
also analyzes the journal's impact, its prominent topics, and its most prolific authors, including their affiliated institutions and countries. The multiple dimensionality scaling analysis initially classified the publications of the journal into five broad clusters: Cluster 1 ("Event Management"),
Cluster 2 ("Customer Satisfaction and Service Quality"), Cluster 3 ("Mega-Events"), Cluster 4 ("Legacy Sports"), and Cluster 5 ("Economic Feasibility"). Clusters 4 and 5 are combined into a single cluster to improve the journal coverage. The coauthorship networks among authors, institutions,
countries, and keywords unveil the collaboration structure among this journal's contributors. The results of the current study provide useful insights for the potential contributors and global audience of the journal and the editorial board of the journal in terms of emerging topics for research.
This commentary examines the role of network-related research in event management studies. The reasons why networks are endemic in the event sector is stated with the goal of explaining why an event ...network theoretical framework is utilised in many studies. The change in topic and way networks and events are described in the literature are discussed with the goal of explicating the main topics. This helps to understand how research on networks and events has evolved and changed based on environmental conditions. After analysing the existing research primarily from the Event Management journal on networks and events, future research suggestions are highlighted that aim to take into account emerging event conditions and technological trends.
Abstract
Background
At the end of 2018, South Africa updated its all-oral regimen, to include bedaquiline (BDQ) and 2 months of linezolid (LZD) for all patients initiating the shorter 9–12 months ...regimen for rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB). We assessed a group of patients in rural KwaZulu-Natal for safety and effectiveness of this treatment regimen under programmatic conditions.
Methods
We conducted a retrospective cohort analysis on RR-TB patients treated with a standardized all-oral short regimen between 1 July 2018 and 30 April 2019 in 3 facilities in King Cetshwayo District. An electronic register (EDR web) and facility-based clinical charts were used to collect variables, which were entered into an Epi-Info database.
Results
Our cohort included 117 patients; 68.4% (95% confidence interval CI: 59.3–76.3) tested positive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The median time to culture conversion was 56 days (95% CI: 50–57). Treatment success was achieved in 75.2% (95% CI: 66.5–82.3) of patients. Mortality within the cohort was 12.8% (95% CI: 7.8–20.3). Anemia was the most frequent severe adverse event (AE). The median time to develop severe anemia was 7.1 weeks (interquartile range IQR 4.0–12.9) after treatment initiation. LZD was interrupted in 25.2% (95% CI: 17.8–34.5) of participants.
Conclusions
An all-oral shorter regimen, including BDQ and LZD as core drugs for the treatment of RR-TB, shows good outcomes, in a high HIV burden rural setting. AEs are common, especially for LZD, but could be managed in the program setting. Support is needed when introducing new regimens to train staff in the monitoring, management, and reporting of AEs.
An all-oral regimen, combining linezolid and bedaquiline, for the treatment of rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis shows good outcomes, irrespective of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) status or CD4 level. Linezolid accounted for nearly half of severe adverse events and warrants close monitoring for myelosuppression and neuropathy.
Individuals’ participation in tourism recreation events can be constrained by a number of situational factors and can also be bolstered by key influences such as a desire for a particular social ...identity. This study extends the current body of research by investigating the effects
of social identity, motivation, and perceived constraints on desire, and thus on the intent to participate in organized motorcycle tourism events. This research was carried out on a sample of participants at an internationally acclaimed motorbike event: the Transitalia Marathon. The results
of the structural model indicate that social identity has a positive influence on motivation, the desire to participate, and the intent to participate. In addition, social identity has a negative, direct effect on perceived constraints, which in turn have a negative effect on motivation. This
motivation has a positive, direct influence on the desire to participate. The practical and research implications of this study are presented herein.
The evolution of security-safety literature has been notably accompanied with the rise of modern terrorism, above all after the attacks to World Trade Center in 2001. This was the first bloody ...incident where four commercial airplanes have been weaponized against the most powerful nation in the planet. Like the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the 9/11 has changed not only geopolitics but travel behavior as never before. In this grim context, the present conceptual paper focuses and examines the evolution of safety-security literature head by Event Management, as fertile ground in Event Management and Tourism studies, because of terrorism. We identify three academic schools which in different stages make a seminal contribution to the studied field.
In recent years the concepts of event management and social entrepreneurship have been increasingly mentioned together due to the COVID-19 pandemic altering the global economy. As a result, there is ...a growing body of practical evidence related to events using a social entrepreneurship
goal in their management approach. Despite the connection and fast growth of research, there is a need for a better understanding of the relevance of social entrepreneurship for event management research and practice that emphasizes new practical and theoretical contributions. This article
seeks to address the connection by discussing the reason and rationale for using a social entrepreneurship theoretical and managerial framework in event management studies.
