This paper develops a decision-making methodology for urban regeneration projects based on the use of data-driven procedures and technologies for the conversion of former industrial areas to ...residential use. The proposed approach is aimed at the elaboration of an information management protocol for the generation of design scenarios, starting from the assessment of the regulatory and technical compatibility of the possible transformations with the existing constraints. This paper describes the application of the methodology to several buildings in the ex-Corradini complex in Naples to be used for different types of residential functions, in a framework of high uncertainty and complexity, also due to the inaccessibility and abandonment of the site.
Analysis of social networks in areas undergoing intense urban transformations are becoming an ever more important topic in spatial planning. The growing attenti- on given to social networks is due to ...the rise of problems and conflicts stemming from disregard of the ‘soft’, i.e. social, components in the local environment. The problem of stakeholders’ participation and empowerment in spatial planning is, in fact, one of ignoring or not recognising the importance of the social networks that exist between actors in space. The article analyses the roles and meanings of social networks with respect to the development of certain types of socio-economic activities in former industrial areas. Using data collected from semi-structured in- terviews in the area of former Tobacco Factory in Ljubljana, it analyses the types, intensity and expansion of social networks.
The aim of the study is to examine the St. Helens Landscape Masterplan and environmental regeneration of under-used and unused land, and to clarify the characteristics of each cases and a landscape ...masterplan at a local level. St. Helens is promoting environmental regeneration of under-used and unused land and the Landscape Masterplan which may contribute to environmental and economic aspects in the area. From the results, in terms of the landscape masterplan, it became clear that a half of the development and 80 percent of business and industrial projects were planned in better environmental locations. This may demonstrates potentials of the environmental regeneration of under-used and unused land to enable redevelopment at the better environment.
