Combining conceptual metaphor and field, we have got layered and colorful image about perception of money in Serbian, French and Spanish. The main aim of this research is to show that the ...phraseological units with component Sr. novac (‘money’) / Fr. argent / Sp. Dinero and semantically similar lexemes are numerous in three languages and in colloquial language. The semantic field of ‘money’ is intertwined with semantic fields of ‘wealth’ and ‘poverty’. We defined five groups and determined that expressions in our corpus primarily reflect possession of large amounts of money, current shortage of money and irrational waste of money. Despite the numerical consistency of phrasemes, money is not perceived identically in Serbian, French and Spanish. As it was confirmed by the results in 169 idioms, formal and semantic overlap- ping in the three languages appears in only 24 cases, in two languages in 30 cases (Serbian/French – 3, Serbian/Spanish ‒13, French/Spanish ‒ 14). The most numerous are the expressions that exist in only one language: Serbian ‒ 49, French ‒ 36 and Spanish ‒ 30.
This article focuses on phraseological antonymy and its meaning in semantic inter-phraseological relationships, which has not yet been fully defined and researched in Slovenian phraseology. The ...author proceeds from a typology of antonyms and existing theoretical positions on phraseological antonymy and focuses on the problem of defining such relationships. A more detailed classification of antonymic phraseological expressions is also proposed. The research highlights references to antonymy in phraseological dictionaries and their significance in understanding of phraseological component parts.
U ovome se članku kontrastivno analiziraju odabrani hrvatski i engleski
frazemi leksičkog polja onima. Riječ je o frazemima kojima je sastavnicom
vlastito ime, odnosno toponim, etnonim ili ...antroponim. Cilj je rada bio
provesti kontrastivnu analizu navedenih frazema da bi se utvrdile podudarnosti,
sličnosti i razlike hrvatske i engleske onimijske frazeologije. Također se u
odnos stavljaju dvije kulture različite prošlosti i sociolingvističke pozadine,
jedne anglosaksonske, druge slavenske. Polazište analize su hrvatski frazemi za
koje se tražilo izrazne i/ili sadržajne ekvivalente. Kontrastivnom su analizom
frazemi podijeljeni u tri skupine kroz koje se uočavaju njihove podudarnosti i
različitosti, odnosno daje se pregled posebnosti dvaju frazeoloških fondova
uvjetovanih kulturološkom, socijalnom, političkom, povijesnom ili nekom drugom
značajkom.
In this paper
we analyse Croatian and English phrasemes with an onymic component, which can
either have a status of a toponym, an ethnonym, or an anthroponym. The aim of
the paper is to determine the similarities and the differences between Croatian
and English onymic phrasemes using contrastive analysis. Additionally, Croatian
and English are observed as two spatially and genealogically distant languages.
This is done in order to identify the differences and peculiarities conditioned
by cultural, social, political, historical or some other features. This paper
compares two cultures with different histories and sociolinguistic backgrounds,
one Anglo-Saxon, the other Slavic. The analysis has shown that phrasemes with
onymic components can be divided into three groups.
The first group consists of corresponding Croatian and
English onymic phrasemes, which means both phrasemes contain an identical
proper name, lexically as well as structurally equal phrase, and the same
motivation for the figurative meaning, i.e. background. The second group
consists of phrasemes that contain an identical proper name but are partially
different in phrase structure. The last group consists of Croatian and English
phrasemes that share the same meaning, but differ in phrase structure, the onymic
component, and background.
The
analysis has revealed that the third group was the largest (57,4%).
It can be concluded that phrasemes with an onymic
component represent not only human traits and life adventures, which are mostly
metaphorically mirrored through the prism of historical, biblical, and
mythological personalities or events, but that such phrasemes also complement
and enrich phraseology of many languages, thus bringing together and
strengthening the (shared) history of their nations and cultures. In addition
to phrasemes common to numerous languages, national phrasemes are extremely
valuable because they are a reliable indicator of the peculiarities of a nation
from which they originate, and their constituent elements reflect the customs,
beliefs, experiences, but also the perception of other nations and their
specificities.
U članku se govori o višerječnim strukturama s potpunom ili djelomičnom desemantizacijom uvrštenim u Senjskom rječniku Milana Moguša. Te su sveze funkcionalno pretežito frazemi ili u manjem broju ...kolokacije. Sveze se analiziraju strukturno i semantički, a promatraju se i u vremenskoj i prostornoj perspektivi.
There has been presented a variety of religiously derived phrasemes and they have been analysed in order to determine a feature of style and a linguistic manner of creation of the world presented in ...the novel. In mental world of the characters of Trilogy, religion is the only worldview, and religiousness is the approach affecting all aspects of life. For instance, Swedish invaders are characterized as people wandering off religion, whereas Poles emphasise their „folk” religiousness, f.e. among gentry, soldiers, servants, etc.
The subject to be presented and described in the present paper are word combinations with mythological (Graeco-Roman) origins occurring in eight crime novels penned by Marek Krajewski, taking the ...shape of: (i) better or less known phrasemes, or conventional petrified multiword units reproduced in a communicative act to express particular intentions and intensions; (ii) phrasematic innovations, or phrasemes modified formally and/or semantically and used against the grain of the phraseological norm; or (iii) literary nonce phrasemes, that is multiword units created ad hoc for the purposes of style and world depiction, containing eponyms and eponymisms of mythological origin which exist in Polish. The proposed examination of conventional (the titular convention), innovative, and nonce (the titular invention) units used in the excerpted crime novels is of a qualitative and functional nature, since its focus is on an attempt to point out and discuss the functions which the selected examples serve in the literary messaging. Polyword mythology-based expressions fulfil numerous and various (often at the same time) functions in M. Krajewski’s crime novels, incl. cultural-identitarian, content-focused, expressive, evaluative, aesthetic and others.
The subject of the paper are Northern Kresy phrasemes built based on function words that for many reasons escape the attention of scholars. The fi rst part of the article briefl y describes the ...issues related to the predilection of scholars for omitting multi-word units and explaining single words despite the fact that the former are much more common in natural languages than the single-word units. The part that presents material focuses on 67 phrasemes confi rmed by 223 examples extracted from Vilnius press from the years 1960–1979 as well as book publishing houses printed in Soviet Lithuania in the years 1949–1985. The phrasematic material is presented in the formalized form, adapting the principles of language units description proposed by A. Bogusławski and M. Danielewiczowa. Phrasemes are mostly of East Slavic origin. Approximately 36% of units were also found in other sources.
