The dramatic works of Jack Davis, the Aboriginal Australian playwright, are significant in themselves in demonstrating the politics of representation of family and trauma in Australian drama. ...Davis uses the strategy of showing the audience the Aboriginal reality rather than teaching them about the discriminations brought about by the coming of Europeans in Australia and their subsequent interference into Aboriginal society. This paper argues that Jack Davis’s No Sugar is a postcolonial play that demonstrates a dialectical relationship between the anxieties of trauma, displacement and the Aboriginal Australian family in period of the Stolen Generation.
In my recent work on the Camphill movement, I have shown how some Camphill places have achieved creative symbiosis while others have opted to evolve beyond their historic commitments to life- and ...income-sharing.1 Rather than reiterating that argument here, I will seek to build a bridge between communal and monastic studies by retelling the history of Roman Catholic monasticism as an extended story in which all three developmental trajectories have played a role. (The same has often been true for monastic studies.) Pitzer's simple invitation to attend to all stages of a community's life has generated important new insights in the study of dozens of communities. The sociological law should not be confused with Steiner's "fundamental social law," which is more frequently discussed by Camphillers.) As Steiner put it: at the outset of culture, humanity strives to create social groups; that is when the interest of the individual is sacrificed to the interest of these groups. ...progress leads to freeing the individual from the interests of the group, and to a free development of individual needs and capacities.3 The sociological law aptly describes a dynamic that can be observed in almost every communal group with which I am familiar.

In this paper, an iterative novel power flow technique is proposed to obtain the operating point of Droop Based Islanded Microgrid (DBIMG). The proposed technique considers system frequency as an additional variable to obtain the steady-state operating point of the system. To generalize the proposed technique, four operating modes of Distributed Generations (DGs) including droop control, isochronous, PV and PQ mode are considered. In this study, the formulated power flow problem consists of a set of non linear and linear power flow equations. To solve these set of equations, a Nested-Iterative Newton-Raphson algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm is implemented on several test systems including 6-bus, 22-bus, 38-bus, 69-bus, and 160-bus. To examine the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the power flow solutions obtained by implementing the proposed algorithm are compared with the power flow solutions obtained by implementing the existing Newton-Raphson algorithms including Modified Newton-Raphson (MNR), Newton Trust-Region (NTR) and time-domain simulator: PSCAD/EMTDC. The results show better efficiency and superior convergence of the proposed algorithm in comparison to the existing algorithms.
Nonlinear optical properties of organic semiconductors (OSCs) have been extensively investigated in the perturbative regime, while strong light induced high‐order processes in solid‐state OSCs are ...less studied. Here, below‐threshold harmonic generation is examined, both experimentally and theoretically, in two solid‐state thin film OSCs, that is, tetraphenylporphyrin and zinc tetraphenylporphyrin. Results show that the π–π* excitations of the porphyrin ring system generate the harmonic emission. The contribution of the Brunel harmonic to the 5th harmonic emission is uncovered, where the resonant 5‐photon transition (S0 → S2 transition) is found to lead to an early onset of non‐perturbative behavior. A similar resonance effect is expected in Brunel harmonic generation in other organic materials.
Brunel harmonic generation is identified in solid‐state thin film organic semiconductors via a combined experimental and theoretical study. The samples are excited by strong near‐infrared ultrashort laser pulses, and low‐order harmonics are measured in the experiment. Real‐time time‐dependent density functional theory calculations with a single‐molecule model reveal the Brunel mechanism and the resonance effect of S0 → S2 transition.
Dynamic physical systems such as reservoir computing (RC) architectures show a great prospect in temporal information processing, whereas hierarchical information processing capability is still ...lacking due to the absence of advanced multilayer reservoir elements. Here, a stackable reservoir system is constructed based on ferroelectric α‐In2Se3 devices with voltage input and output, which is realized by dynamic voltage division between a ferroelectric field‐effect transistor and a planar device and therefore allows the reservoirs to cascade, enabling multilayer RC. Fast Fourier transformation analysis shows high‐harmonic generation in the first layer as a result of inherent nonlinearity of the reservoir, and progressive low‐pass filtering effect is realized where higher‐frequency components are progressively filtered in deeper‐layer RCs. Time‐series prediction and waveform classification tasks are also demonstrated, serving as evidence for the memory capacity and computing capability of the deep reservoir architecture. This work can provide a promising pathway in exploiting emerging 2D materials and dynamics for advanced neuromorphic computing architectures.

Despite having the costliest medical care delivery system in the world, Americans are not particularly healthy. Recent international comparisons show that life expectancy in the U.S. ranks 49th among ...all nations, and infant mortality rates are higher in the U.S. than in many far less affluent nations. While these statistics are alarming, the bigger problem is that we do not know how to reverse this trend. Our lack of knowledge is due in large part to significant inadequacies in the health system for gathering, analyzing, and communicating health information about the population.
To inform the public health community and all other sectors that contribute to population health, For the Public's Health: The Role of Measurement in Action and Accountability reviews current approaches for measuring the health of individuals and communities and creates a roadmap for future development. This book, the first of three in a series, focuses on data and measurement-not as ends in themselves, but rather tools to inform the myriad programs, policies, and processes developed or undertaken by governmental public health agencies and their many partners in the health system.
For the Public's Health seeks to reinstate the proper and evidence-based understanding of health as not merely the result of medical or clinical care but the result of the sum of what we do as a society to create the conditions in which people can be healthy. To achieve this goal, the book suggests changes in the processes, tools, and approaches used to gather information about health outcomes and their determinants. The book also recommends developing an integrated and coordinated system in which all parties-including governmental and private sector partners at all levels-have access to timely and meaningful data to help foster individual and community awareness and action.
The availability of intense, ultrashort coherent radiation sources in the infrared region of the spectrum is enabling the generation of attosecond X-ray pulses via high-harmonic generation, ...pump–probe experiments in the ‘molecular fingerprint’ region and opening up the area of relativistic infrared nonlinear optics of plasmas. These applications would benefit from multi-millijoule single-cycle pulses in the mid- to long-wavelength infrared region. Here, we present a new scheme capable of producing tunable relativistically intense, single-cycle infrared pulses from 5 to 14 μm with a 1.7% conversion efficiency based on a photon frequency downshifting scheme that uses a tailored plasma density structure. The carrier-envelope phase of the long-wavelength infrared pulse is locked to that of the drive laser to within a few per cent. Such a versatile tunable infrared source may meet the demands of many cutting-edge applications in strong-field physics and greatly promote their development.
We report enhanced optical nonlinear effects at the surface of an ultrahigh-Q silica microcavity functionalized by a thin layer of organic molecules. The maximal conversion efficiency of third ...harmonic generation reaches ∼1680%/W2 and an absolute efficiency of 0.0144% at pump power of ∼2.90 mW, which is approximately 4 orders of magnitude higher than that in a reported silica microcavity. Further analysis clarifies the elusive dependence of the third harmonic signal on the pump power in previous literature. Molecule-functionalized microcavities may find promising applications in high-efficiency broadband optical frequency conversion and offer potential in sensitive surface analysis.
