This paper explores the embodied CO2 emission effect by measuring the marginal net trading embodied CO2 emissions and decomposing the exporting embodied CO2 emissions from the international division ...perspective. The result shows that 38.5% of the studying countries were not beneficial to the low-carbon globalization in 2009. The trading CO2 emission effect of China and the US both satisfied the low-carbon globalization standards, but the international division types between China and the US were quite different. Decomposition of the vertical specialization embodied CO2 emissions suggests that the CO2 emissions embodied in the foreign value of China's exporting products were mainly included in the final products. By contrast, the CO2 emissions embodied in the foreign value of the US' exporting products were majorly contained in the intermediate goods. The result indicates that China mainly located at the downstream and the US majorly located at the upstream in the global value chain. The carbon RCA shows that labor-intensive manufacturing and knowledge-intensive manufacturing of China as well as capital-intensive manufacturing and service industries of the US had carbon revealed comparative disadvantages. The future international division cannot simply consider traditional multilateral trading profits but should also consider the trading CO2 emission effect in the low-carbon globalization context.
•Identify the low-carbon globalization trading patterns.•38.5% of the countries were not beneficial to the low-carbon globalization.•China mainly located at downstream while the US majorly located at upstream in global value chain.•Industrial carbon revealed comparative advantages of China and the US are various.•Future international division is to achieve win-win considering both economic and environmental benefits.
Despite radical and fundamental reform of the Chinese higher education system, very little is known about this outside China. The past decade has seen radical reform of all levels of China's ...education system as it attempts to meet changing economic and social needs and aspirations: this has included transformation of university curricula, pedagogy and evaluation measures, rapidly increasing joint research and degree programmes between Chinese universities and universities abroad, and very large numbers of Chinese students studying at universities outside China.
This book describes the historical, cultural, intellectual and contemporary background and contexts of the reform and internationalisation of higher education in China. It discusses these changes, outlines the challenges posed by the changes for university administrators, faculty, researchers, students and those working with Chinese academics and students in China and abroad, and assesses the impact, and evaluates the success, of the changes. Most importantly, it considers how this mobility of people and ideas across educational systems and cultures can contribute to new ways of working and understanding between Western and Chinese academic cultures.
The book is a companion to Education Reform in China, which focuses on reform at the early childhood, primary and secondary levels.
This book takes the view that ELT global coursebooks, in addition to being curriculum artefacts, are also highly wrought cultural artefacts which seek to make English mean in highly selective ways ...and it argues that the textual construction (and imaging) of English parallels the processes of commodity promotion more generally. Many emerging economies, including the BRICS economies, are having difficulty meeting the Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDGs) objectives. Consequently, this research discusses the creation of an ...SDG framework for the BRICS economies, which can be utilized as a model for other blocs. To achieve this purpose, this research probes into the effect of biomass energy usage on ecological footprint in the BRICS economies between 1992 and 2018, considering the roles of gross capital formation, natural resources, and globalization. The novel Methods of Moments-Quantile-Regression (MMQR) approach with fixed effects is used, the outcomes of which reveal that in all quantiles (10th to 90th), globalization and biomass energy use mitigate environmental degradation, whereas economic growth, natural resources, and gross capital formation contribute to environmental degradation. The present research applied a series of techniques such as panel FMOLS, and DOLS, FE-OLS, the outcomes of which disclosed that globalization and biomass energy utilization help mitigate environmental degradation, while economic growth, natural resources, and gross capital formation improve environmental degradation. On the basis of the study’s findings, we suggest a shift in energy policies away from fossil fuels toward renewable energy alternatives by taking measures regarding the innovation of biomass to improve conversion efficiency.
African trading brokers in China buy knock‐off or copy goods and move them through customs via bribery to African ports; this trade, although illegal, brings desired global products to Africa. This ...paper, based on interviews with African trading brokers, examines how the internet and Covid‐19 have affected their trade. African customers can now find out the accurate prices of goods; computerized customs regimes make bribery difficult; and Covid‐19 has raised shipping costs. While the informal economic arrangements of these trading brokers will probably continue despite policymakers' efforts to eradicate them, China may no longer be the source of their goods.
