Cities of the 21st century are characterized by far-reaching socio-functional divisions. Composed of fragments of different physiognomy, functions, social structure, ever larger cities does not ...constitute an integrated, strongly interconnected tissue, but a cluster of “islands” in urbanized space. Urbanisation and metropolitanisation processes (in the case of large cities), which have greatest impact on the diversification of the urban space, include primarily: explosion, separation, secession – resulting from the deepening of social inequalities, increased poverty and rapid pauperization of the middle class. Latin American cities are undoubtedly undergoing processes of rapid transformation and modernization. Their picture is a patchwork or a mosaic of artifacts. The aim of the article is to join the discussion on the subject of fragmentation processes and the formulation of hypotheses on the main causes of these dynamics processes.
The aim of the article is to indicate suburban recreational spaces with the highest utility value by introducing a new tool and a method to measure space activity, which is an indicator of the ...so-called good public space. The new method is based on behavioural mapping, which was tested in selected Warsaw suburbs. The study proved that the potential of suburbs in stimulating local social life, measured by the utility value of recreational spaces, is generally low. The research confirmed the role of location in creating community-friendly public spaces and a greater distance in interpersonal relationships among suburbanites than city inhabitants.
The purpose of the work was to identify public spaces occurring in rural areas of the Greater Poland voivodeship and to determine their specificity by identifying the manner and state of their ...development. The research material was the results of the inventory carried out in 2014-2018 in five communes: Drawsko, Jarocin, Kaczory, Komorniki and Zaniemyśl. The assessment of the state of the identified types of space showed the occurrence of large differences both between communes and the types of shared places studied. In the general assessment of the state of development of common spaces, the Komorniki commune was the best, the lowest marks were given to shared places in the Jarocin commune. Attention is drawn to the high repetition of very good grades for places such as: school playground, rural club room. It was proposed to separate the sports field as a separate type of new rural public space. In rural areas, more and more often you can find facilities usually associated with amenities available only to urban residents.
Just as time itself closely intertwines with space, so do mental and practical articulations of time constitute close context for intellectual spatial discourse. The considerations herein firstly ...outline the traditional geographical understanding of chorology as well as general comprehension of chronology. Secondly, calculations of time in selected civilizations and cultures are presented (African, Indian, Andean, Chinese, Greek, Japanese, Islamic). Thirdly, the concepts of temporality by R. Ingarden (including the idea of real time) and by K. Pomian (chronometry, chronology, chronography, chronosophy) are introduced. The final point of the study includes the proposal of working interpretation of chorometry, chorology, chorography and chorosophy in the urban contest, and the indicative identification of urban space of time (topochronometry, topochronology, topochronography, topochronosophy).
The article refers to an inspiring work of A. Lisowski published 15 years ago, entitled The Janus face of suburbanization (2005). It continued the discourse on suburbanization as a dynamic process, ...constantly shaping local and regional settlement systems, especially of large cities. An attempt is made to take another look at the evolution (periodization) of the suburbanization process and the relationship of the central city and the suburban area. The main emphasis was placed on new trends in the development of suburban areas, defined by the common concept of post-suburbanization. The features of traditional suburbs as city products and post-suburbs as products of globalization were analyzed. The article ends with research questions related to current suburbanization trends observed mainly in Western countries.
Andrzej Lisowski’s book on the concept of space in human geography published in 2003 was the canvas for reflection on the role and meaning of the concept of space in contemporary socio-economic ...geographical research. The dynamics of social change in the past twenty years have meant that many of the approaches of that time, being innovative and contesting the old, modernist paradigm of science, today belong to the classic ways of interpreting space in geography. The evolution of space interpretations and understandings has been illustrated on the example of the concept of place. The development and popularization of this concept may be also used as an example of the contribution of socio-economic geography to the cognitive and methodological development of other social disciplines. Ongoing changes in physical, social and economic space have been traced based on changes of public space forms and functions changes and in a macroscale, on the example of a meaning of particular, real territory in the space of global flows. The problem ofthe deformation of real space image in order to obtain its socially desirable perception and valorisation is also discussed. The problem has been historically and is currently present in social sciences.
This introduction to the special issue lays out some of the theoretical underpinnings of the notion of the ‘infrastructural frontier’. We begin by considering infrastructures as material geographies ...of power, before moving on to highlight how broader processes of order-making and resistance often become operational at the material edges of states: the places where transport and communication networks peter out and give way to terrains less amenable to remote control. Weaving together insights from the contributions to this special issue, we then show how the concept of the infrastructural frontier productively intervenes in the wider discussion on material geographies, frontiers, and borderlands, by placing the interplay between unsettled infrastructures and unsettled configurations of power at the edge of the state at the center of interest.

They provide readers with an unparalleled assessment of the political and social context that gave rise to many of Massey's key ideas and contributions - such as spatial divisions of labour, power-geometries, and a 'global sense of place' - and how they travelled, and were translated and transformed, both within and outside of academia.
