Innovative composite shear walls (ICSW) with multi-partition steel tubes and concrete have been increasingly used for improving seismic performance in engineering structures. However, limited ...research has focused on the interface bond behavior between steel tubes and concrete. This study aimed to investigate experimentally the bond performance through seven ICSW specimens subjected to push-out tests. The influences of the effective width-to-thickness ratio and adjacent cavity restriction conditions on the bond strength are discussed. It was found that the bond strength increased with a decrease in the effective width-to-thickness ratio of the steel tubes, and the adjacent cavity restriction condition had a slight influence on the bond strength. To determine peak bond strength, the simplified calculation formulas that considered the influence of the effective width-to-thickness ratio were developed. A theoretical bond-slip model for predicting the bond-slip behavior of multi-partition steel tubes and concrete was proposed, which was verified to be acceptable by comparison with the test results. The present study could provide the valuable data for engineering applications of ICSW structures.
Tribological behaviour of an Al–5-wt% Cu alloy, Al–10-wt% Cu alloy (hypoeutectic alloy), and an innovative composite combination of an Al–5-wt% Cu alloy as the matrix and a 5-wt% Cu powder as the ...reinforcement have been investigated. The metal matrix composite was prepared and fabricated by using a stir-casting process by dispersing the Cu powder (average particle size of 105 µm) in the molten base Al–5-wt% Cu alloy. The wear and frictional properties of the metal matrix composites was studied by performing dry sliding wear test using a pin-on-disc wear tester. Experiments were conducted based on the plan of experiments generated through Taguchi’s technique. A L9 Orthogonal array was selected for analysis of the data.The regression equation for each response were developed for both the alloys and composite using MiniTab-17. SEM and EDAX analysis of the wear samples were also studied for morphology changes.
This article discusses the issue of composite timber-glass I-beams, which are an interesting alternative for load-bearing beams of ceilings and roofs. The reasoning behind the use of timber-glass ...I-beams is the combination of the best features of both materials - this enables the creation of particularly safe beams with regard to structural stability and post-breakage load capacity. Due to the significant differences between the bonding surfaces of timber and glass, a study on the adhesion of various adhesives to both surfaces is presented at the beginning of the paper. After examination, two adhesives were selected for offering the best performance when used with composite beams. The beams were investigated using a four-point bending test under quasi-static loading.

Um diese Feuerwiderstandsklasse zu erreichen, sind bisher Brandschutzmaßnahmen für die Stahlquerschnitte erforderlich. Solche Brandschutzmaßnahmen erschweren die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit von Deckensystemen in Verbundbauweise. Fraglich ist, ob die vorhandenen Brandlasten im Deckenhohlraum und die Ventilationsverhältnisse überhaupt ein Brandszenario ermöglichen, das mit der Temperaturentwicklung der Einheits‐Temperaturzeitkurve vergleichbar ist. Diese Frage war ein zentrales Thema des Forschungsprojekts P1139. Im Ergebnis wurde ein Naturbrandszenario für den Hohlraum von Deckensystemen entwickelt, welches auf realen Brandlasten und Ventilationsbedingungen basiert. Unter Verwendung dieses Naturbrandszenarios wurden zwei Großbrandversuche mit einem innovativen vorgespannten Verbunddeckensystem durchgeführt, um den Einfluss auf das Tragverhalten bei einer Brandbeanspruchung im Hohlraum des Deckensystems beurteilen zu können.
In diesem Beitrag werden die experimentellen und numerischen Untersuchungen zum Erwärmungs‐ und Tragverhalten des Deckensystems infolge des Naturbrandszenarios für den Hohlraum beschrieben. Zusätzlich zu den experimentellen Untersuchungen wird ein numerisches 3‐D‐Modell in Abaqus erstellt, das mit den Versuchsdaten validiert wird und mit dessen Hilfe die Systemtragwirkung des Deckensystems vertiefend untersucht wird.
Evaluation of the load‐bearing behaviour of a slab system in case of a natural fire scenario for the hollow space
In Germany, in addition to the common fire resistance of slab systems the national regulations require a 30‐min standard fire resistance of the load‐bearing steel construction of the flooring system of a slab system. To achieve this fire resistance with a composite slab system a fire protection of the load‐bearing steel construction is necessary. Due to the fire protection the competiveness of the composite slab systems is affected in comparison to other slab systems. However, it is uncertain if the fire loads and ventilation conditions within the hollow space are sufficient to reach comparable temperatures to the ISO standard fire curve. Therefore, in the research project (P1139) a natural fire scenario was invented for the hollow space of slab systems based on real fire loads and ventilation conditions. On the basis of this natural fire scenario two large scale fire tests with an innovative prestressed composite slab system were performed to evaluate the influence on the load‐bearing behaviour.
In this paper, experimental and numerical investigations regarding the heating and load‐bearing behaviour of a slab system in case of this natural fire scenario are presented. A three‐dimensional Abaqus model, which is validated against the test data, will be used for an enhanced understanding of the load‐bearing behaviour.
