Since the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2003, and the increased prevalence of decolonising ...objectives in museums, curators have been faced with the challenge of how to exhibit intangible cultural heritage (ICH). Existing literature on ICH in museums is sparse and that which relates to exhibition technologies, like film, often focuses on audience effect rather than on content and context of the media or motivations/intentions of curators in their use. This research explores how curators utilise film to exhibit ICH in museums through the case study of Lisa Reihana's in Pursuit of Venus infected (iPOVi). By tracking the creation and exhibition of iPOVi, especially through interviewing various curators of the artwork, it is clear that curators privilege film's ability to represent complex aspects of culture, like ICH, and utilise the medium to engage with the decolonising objectives of museums. It is ultimately how ICH characterises every facet of iPOVi (the medium, content, and filmmaking and exhibition contexts) that allows it to bridge gaps in discourse surrounding material culture and ICH and exposes the potential for filmmaking to become a heritage process. Despite the deep cultural value and strong appeal to global tourists, the Kumbh Fair has not been explored much by researchers. This is even though the Kumbh Fair is crafting the tourism of India, ...thereby leading to its overall socio-economic development. This study aims to examine the determinants of tourist motivation, such as ads awareness, destination image and online-communities, which provoke tourists to have attachment with the destination more closely. The study found the tourists' attitude as a complementary mediation and spiritual stimuli as a mediating moderator are positively impacting on the significant relationship of destination motivators and destination attachment.
Although UNESCO has a stated aim to incorporate culture into all development policies, culturally integrated approaches to realising the United Nations' (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are ...arguably yet to gain widespread traction. Focusing on cultural practices relating to music and sound, this article explores the role of culture and cultural policy in advancing the SDGs in the Asia-Pacific, through three case studies. In Indonesia, a local project to document and sustain the music of the Indigenous Marapu people is generating positive health and wellbeing (SDG3), equality (SDG10) and community sustainability (SDG11) outcomes. In Australia, River Listening shows how artistic uses of underwater soundscapes can encourage local communities to learn about, and take action to support, life below water (SDG 14), while also increasing climate awareness and action (SDG13) and advancing sustainable cities and communities (SDG11). In Vanuatu, the Leweton Cultural Village is a community-led cultural enterprise advancing climate justice (SDG13), gender equality (SDG5), culturally appropriate education (SDG4), and economic prospects (SDG8) for the community, as well as increasing its resilience (SDG3). The authors consider how these and other examples might inspire deeper integration of culture, particularly cultural practices featuring music and sound, into policy efforts to achieve the SDGs in the Asia-Pacific.

Recently, several educational game platforms have been proposed in the literature for choreographic training. However, their main limitation is that they fail to provide a quantitative assessment ...framework of a performing choreography against a groundtruth one. In this paper, we address this issue by proposing a machine learning framework exploiting deep learning paradigms. In particular, we introduce a long short-term memory network with the main capability of analyzing 3D captured skeleton feature joints of a dancer into predefined choreographic postures. This pose identification procedure is capable of providing a detailed (fine) evaluation score of a performing dance. In addition, the paper proposes a choreographic summarization architecture based on sparse modeling representative selection (SMRS) in order to abstractly represent the performing choreography through a set of key choreographic primitives. We have modified the SMRS algorithm in a way to extract hierarchies of key representatives. Choreographic summarization provides an efficient tool for a coarse quantitative evaluation of a dance. Moreover, hierarchical representation scheme allows for a scalable assessment of a choreography. The serious game platform supports advanced visualization toolkits using Labanotation in order to deliver the performing sequence in a formal documentation.
The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, with the capital Beijing as the core, carries a profound geo-culture and gathers numerous intangible cultural heritages. Studying the spatial distribution ...characteristics and influencing factors of intangible cultural heritage can help to propose positive suggestions for protection and development from the perspective of sustainable development. Taking 329 national intangible cultural heritages in Beijing-Tianjin—Hebei as the research objects, and using ArcGIS spatial analysis technology, combined with methods such as kernel density analysis, standard deviation ellipse and geographical detector, to visualize the spatial distribution of intangible cultural heritages and explore the influencing factors of their distribution. The results show that: (1) the distribution of intangible cultural heritage in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei is not balanced, mainly concentrated in the central and southern regions, and three high-density core circles are formed in Beijing, Tianjin, and Handan-Xingtai in Hebei Province, showing large differences in spatial distribution density; (2) Traditional techniques, traditional arts, dramatic balladry, sports, music, and medicine show the characteristics of aggregated distribution. folkways, dance, and drama show the characteristics of random distribution. Folk literature shows the characteristics of uniform distribution; (3) The Cultural Development Period is an important evolutionary turning point in the spatial and temporal distribution of intangible cultural heritage in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, as well as an accelerating period in the development of intangible cultural heritage, and completes the transformation from decentralized distribution to localized aggregation distribution. In The Period of Regional Cultural Integration, the peak value is reached; (4) Economic development and social culture have the greatest influence on the spatial distribution of intangible cultural heritage in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, while the influence of physical environment is relatively small.
Somut Olmayan Kültürel Miras’a ilişkin görüşlerini belirlemektir.
The aim of this research was to study from a multidimensional point of view (decisional, relational and energetic) the interpersonal relationships established by girls and boys in the traditional ...sport game of Elbow Tag. Scientific evidence has shown that Traditional Sport Games (TSG) trigger different effects on male and female genders in relation to emotional experiences, decision-making, conflicts and motor relationships. Despite the fact that these dimensions are intertwined, there are hardly any studies that interpret motor behaviors holistically, i.e., taking a multidimensional (360°) view of these dimensions. For this study, a quasi-experimental design was used and a type III design was applied, inspired by the observational methodology N/P/M. A total of 147 university students participated (M = 19.6, SD = 2.3): 47 girls (31.97%) and 100 boys (68.02%). A mixed ‘ad hoc’ registration system was designed with acceptable margins of data quality. Cross-tabulations, classification trees and T-patterns analysis were applied. The results indicated that social interactions between girls and boys in a mixed group were unequal. This difference was mainly due to decision-making (sub-role variable), which has much greater predictive power than the energetic variables (MV and steps).
Intangible cultural heritage has been long recognised as a tourism resource. Nevertheless, its experiential significance remains underrepresented in academic literature. As a contribution to this ...knowledge gap, this paper set out to firstly, explore characteristics of intangible cultural heritage experiences, and then, to draw on those characteristics to ascertain its significance as a tourist experience. For this, we used Quan and Wang's structural model of the tourist experience as the theoretical lens. Set within the context of European inbound travellers' experiences in Sri Lanka, our findings present that as a tourist experience, intangible cultural heritage increases memorability by eliciting the characteristics of uniqueness, impressiveness, authenticity, and a sense of self-discovery. It also induces motivation by promoting completeness of the journey, facilitating cultural exploration, and generating curiosity. These findings present intangible cultural heritage as a peak touristic experience, contributing to the discussions on its significance to tourism from an experiential perspective.
With the development of globalization, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) has come under increasing threat, making the safeguarding of ICH a crucial task for the governments and peoples of the world. ...This paper examines China’s current state of intellectual property (IPR) protection for ICH and proposes that ICH be placed under China’s legislative protection as intellectual property. Due to the immense diversity and complexity of ICH and the difficulty in reconciling various interests involved, the existing IPR protection mode faces many obstacles in practice. We present two case studies and three sets of recommendations on improving the protection of ICH in China. The first set relies on improving copyright protection for ICH, the second set relies on improving trademark and geographical protection for ICH, and the third set relies on improving patent protection for ICH.
