The task of ending famine in India was taken up by many at the beginning of the twentieth century. Only decades earlier, famine in India had been believed to be a necessary evil. Now it was the ...reason for the increasing activities of doctors, nutritionists, social reformers, agricultural experts, missionaries, anti-colonial activists and colonial administrators, all involved in temporary relief and finding permanent solutions to famine.
,a. die Fächer Biologie, Chemie, Physik, Deutsch) untersucht.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Firms rely on information systems (IS) to improve information sharing and visibility, cut costs, and boost productivity. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are being ...used as important strategic tools in this direction, providing competitive advantages and resulting in increased operational efficiencies. However, ERP implementation failure rates remain high because of ineffective risk management to limit supply chain disruptions during implementation. The objective of supply chain risk management (SCRM) is to enable firms to remain sustainable in the face of major disruptions. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the role of SCRM capabilities associated with ERP implementation to limit supply chain disruptions during ERP operations. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: A generic qualitative research design was used to collect primary data through semi-structured interviews with fourteen ERP providers and clients in South Africa. Thematic analysis was utilised to evaluate the data. FINDINGS: The study determined that SCRM capabilities can assist firms in returning to superior operations after ERP implementation. Furthermore, the findings shed light on the specific SCRM processes used during ERP implementation, as well as identifying areas for improvement. RECOMMENDATIONS/VALUE: This study equips ERP providers and ERP clients with valuable insight into understanding the capabilities of SCRM in ERP implementation. MANAGERIAL IMPLICATIONS: Along with leveraging the SCRM capabilities identified, managers are advised to use formal and external assessment tools, implement a formal SCRM process, increase efforts to involve supply chain partners during ERP implementation and selection, and finally, incorporate a change management division to reduce disruption during ERP implementation JEL CLASSIFICATION: L14.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The purpose of this research is to determine if there are any significant relationships between performance management systems, work engagement, and employment relationships. It ...also aims to ascertain if employment relationships and work engagement predict the performance management systems in South Africa's public sector. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: A quantitative research approach and cross-sectional research design were employed. A total of 400 employees at Levels 1-12 were invited, from which 355 responses were received. This study's participants were selected using non-probabilistic and purposive sampling. FINDINGS: The results demonstrated that employment relationships and work engagement are predictors of performance management systems in the workplace. RECOMMENDATIONS/VALUE: Based on this study's findings, we recommend that the South African public sector implement a transparent, objective, and equitable performance management system that is perceived as being fair. MANAGERIAL IMPLICATIONS: This study has the potential to provide organisations with more knowledge concerning the link between employment relationships and work engagement, as well as the key predictors of performance management systems. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: In the increasingly competitive fashion industry, it is essential for fashion brands and marketers to establish and enhance their customers' loyalty toward their brand as an ...effective means of survival and success. To achieve this, it is essential to understand the factors that impact their target market's brand loyalty. Although several studies have investigated brand loyalty in relation to various factors, limited research has focused on the interrelationships between the brand equity dimensions, while no such research exists within the South African fashion industry context, particularly from a Generation Y student perspective. Fashion remains significant to Generation Y individuals in particular, and therefore, this study determined the relationship between Generation Y students' fashion brand loyalty, awareness, association and perceived quality. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: Following a quantitative research approach, the necessary data was collected from a convenience sample of 750 students registered at a South African higher education institution, using a self-administered questionnaire. The data analysis performed in this study included exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and structural equation modelling (SEM). FINDINGS: The findings imply that Generation Y students' loyalty towards fashion brands is directly and indirectly influenced by their awareness of and their associations with the fashion brand. In addition, it was found that the perceived quality of the brand has a direct influence on their loyalty towards the fashion brand RECOMMENDATIONS/VALUE: To increase fashion brand loyalty among Generation Y consumers, their fashion brand awareness should first be increased, which could lead to stronger brand associations, improved quality perceptions, and ultimately, a stronger commitment towards the brand. MANAGERIAL IMPLICATIONS: Fashion brand managers and marketers should consider the interrelationships between fashion brand loyalty, awareness, association and perceived quality when aiming to enhance fashion brand loyalty among consumers. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Due to the increase in Internet usage, the e-commerce industry has been booming as more consumers shop online. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that ...influence consumers' decision to shop online for airline tickets. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: A survey method was used to collect data from 200 airline ticket shoppers. The data were analysed via the Exploratory Factor Analysis and Multi-Regression Analysis. FINDINGS: This study found that contrary to earlier studies in online shopping, the ease-of-use of websites and price are not primary drivers of consumers shopping online. The usefulness and convenience of shopping online are, however the key drivers of airline tickets shopping online. Another key finding is that privacy and security no longer deter consumers to shop for airline tickets online RECOMMENDATIONS/VALUE: This study adds both theoretical and practical contributions for e-commerce practitioners and airline companies as it revealed that it is important to add more useful features to their e-commerce websites and applications to increase airline ticket sales online. MANAGERIAL IMPLICATIONS: To provide superior customer service, airline companies need to provide customers with useful features on their websites in a convenient way. Therefore, frequent monitoring of the consumers' expectations of the convenience of online websites and applications is compulsory for continuous success in the airline industry. Queer communal kinship is a long overdue replacement for the naturalized model of the modern western family; a post-capitalist regime of social reproduction, aiming for redistributive justice through ...the politics of pleasure; a timely proposal for the demise of possessive and accumulative ideology, and the upsurge of a counter-imaginary; a manifesto for the collectivization of reproductive labor; an ethical conceptual framework for a joyful cultural shift: Queer Communal Kinship Now! This manifesto pushes for a radical redefinition of love, intimacy, and care in support of a much needed redistributive justice movement. This project must be accompanied by an exit from heteronormativity as a regime of relational scarcity, as well as from the metaphysics of private property which is at the heart of our economies and by extension of our social ecologies -- at odds with much of life on this planet. Queer Communal Kinship Now! examines the role of western normative family ideals in the mechanisms of the preservation and intensification of this status quo, as well as potential approaches to guide us out of this unsavory situation. Both handbook and personal narrative, Queer Communal Kinship Now! discusses the conceptual leaps required to emancipate ourselves from the conventional western family model, towards different regimes of bonding, care, and attention, to allow us to imagine a different type of social reality driven by queer and feminist ethical concerns. Directed to those interested in building queer families and wondering how not to repeat the mistakes of their parents, Queer Communal Kinship Now! offers radical ways of rethinking being together.
The novel coronavirus and associated Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is rapidly spreading throughout the world, with robust growth in the United States. Its drastic impact on the global ...population and international health care is swift, evolving, and unpredictable. The effects on orthopaedic surgery departments are predominantly indirect, with widespread cessation of all nonessential orthopaedic care. Although this is vital to the system-sustaining measures of isolation and resource reallocation, there is profound detriment to orthopaedic training programs.
In the face of new pressures on the finite timeline on an orthopaedic residency, the Emory University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedics has devised a 5-pronged strategy based on the following: (1) patient and provider safety, (2) uninterrupted necessary care, (3) system sustainability, (4) adaptability, and (5) preservation of vital leadership structures.
Our 5 tenants support a 2-team system, whereby the residents are divided into cycling "active-duty" and "working remotely" factions. In observation of the potential incubation period of viral symptoms, phase transitions occur every 2 weeks with strict adherence to team assignments. Intrateam redundancy can accommodate potential illness to ensure a stable unit of able residents. Active duty residents participate in in-person surgical encounters and virtual ambulatory encounters, whereas remotely working residents participate in daily video-conferenced faculty-lead, case-based didactics and pursue academic investigation, grant writing, and quality improvement projects. To sustain this, faculty and administrative 2-team systems are also in place to protect the leadership and decision-making components of the department.
The novel coronavirus has decimated the United States healthcare system, with an unpredictable duration, magnitude, and variability. As collateral damage, orthopaedic residencies are faced with new challenges to provide care and educate residents in the face of safety, resource redistribution, and erosion of classic learning opportunities. Our adaptive approach aims to be a generalizable tactic to optimize our current landscape.
