The Kamishibai theatre is a traditional Japanese method of storytelling using illustrated boards successively taken out of a small wooden chest used as a screen. Although the method has a significant ...educational and therapeutic potential, researchers devote little attention to it, focusing mainly on its connection with developing language competency and promotion of reading. However, the Kamishibai theatre constitutes an excellent form of working with children with intellectual disability, as we try to demonstrate in this article. The article is devoted to the issues of using Kamishibai theatre in working with children with intellectual disabilities and the role the teacher plays in implementing this stimulation method. Considerations made are based on the results of two previous scientific projects oriented around the epiphanies and key experiences in the biographies of educators and the impact of various forms of communication within the Kamishibai theatre method on the perception of the content presented to children with intellectual disabilities. The article presents the results of our research, supplements the analysis with the indications regarding the role of the teacher conducting art therapy classes and an in-depth reflection on the predispositions a teacher should possess.
High reliability organizations (HROs) sustain consistently excellent outcomes over time. Health care systems need to eliminate major quality failures to become reliable.
Practice variations, ...unstructured leader rounds, and unfavorable patient experience outcomes with Responsiveness of Hospital Staff prompted leaders to adopt Kamishibai cards (K-cards).
Evidence-based practices (EBPs) such as timeliness of answering call lights, purposeful rounding, communication, and engaging patients were used to develop Responsiveness K-cards.
Responsiveness K-cards established standard work for staff responsiveness and audited process compliance. Findings determined what areas needed improvement, and leaders engaged frontline staff in practice changes.
Percentile rank for Responsiveness of Hospital Staff had a sustained increase. Four of 6 hospital units using Responsiveness K-cards achieved 80% rank or better in every patient experience domain for the entire fiscal year.
K-cards use HRO principles to standardize practice and improve outcomes. They encourage continuous improvement, which supports the sustainability of EBPs.
This text presents a way of using paper theatre in regional education. Derived from the Japanese tradition called kamishibai, the theatre is a combination of visual art and storytelling. The ...historical path it has followed to become rooted in the contemporary education (especially dedicated to preschool and early school children) is described in the first part of the article. Further considerations are related to the research which aimed at learning the strategy for creating paper theatres by teachers of Łódź schools and kindergartens, and by the students of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Łódź who specialize in early school and preschool education, and who are involved in the project: "Kamishibai in regional education" (organized by the Łódź Centre for Teacher Training and Practical Education). I analysed 62 projects (prepared in the form of charts and texts, or in the form of recorded films) that were made available by the participants on the Moodle and MS Teams platform. The applied research methods (analysis of documents and nondirective interview) allowed me to discuss the choice of literary material and the potential and limitations of the kamishibai method. Eventually, they made it possible for me to describe the strategy for designing paper theaters, which are to popularize contact with the art of the word of the Lodz region.
Lean management tools have proven effective in achieving high reliability in health care.
Unstructured leader rounds, decentralized prevention bundle repositories, and unfavorable patient experience ...outcomes prompted leaders on a thoracic and cardiovascular surgery unit to find other methods to address these issues and positively impact outcomes.
Nurse sensitive indicator prevention bundles, root cause analysis tools, and best practices were used to develop Kamishibai Cards (K-Cards) for each measure targeted.
K-Cards were implemented to standardize processes, engage patients in their care, and promote staff identification of barriers and solutions.
Nurse-sensitive indicators and patient experience metrics were positively impacted by Kamishibai Rounding. K-Cards promote a state of continuous improvement, which supports sustainability of evidence-based practice and best practices that were implemented.
K-Cards use high-reliability principles to standardize nursing practice to promote quality outcomes.
The Kamishibai Card (K-Card) process is a storytelling methodology designed to help identify barriers and remove or redesign them.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the ...K-Card process for central venous line (CVL) maintenance bundle compliance in a pediatric intensive care unit.
A retrospective evaluation of the implementation of the K-Card process was performed using a pretest and posttest design.
A total of 1003 central venous catheter maintenance observations were completed during the study period. A statistically significant change was noted in one element of the CVL maintenance bundle, tubing timed and dated. The most frequent cause for noncompliance with the CVL maintenance bundle was incomplete communication during handoff, followed by device associated factors (failure of device, use of device, and availability of device).
The K-Card process had a positive impact on CVL maintenance bundle compliance in the study setting.
