bacilli are a known cause of non-invasive gastrointestinal listeriosis with diarrhea, less frequently they cause invasive infections: meningitis and encephalitis, bacteremia and its complications: ...endocarditis, intraocular inflammation of the eye and others. The risk of human infection is mainly associated with consuming food contaminated with these bacteria. According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), infections with
etiology caused the highest hospitalizations and deaths among zoonotic diseases reported in 2022. A report by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reported 0.44 cases of listeriosis per 100,000 population in 2021, with the highest incidence rate for people over 64 years old at 1.7.
The study aimed to review and describe cases of invasive listeriosis diagnosed in adult patients in Europe between 2010 and 2023. Fifty-two cases of the disease were included, of which 19 were meningitis, 13 showed bacteremia, nine were associated with endocarditis and 10 with intraocular inflammation. One case had a clinical form of hepatitis. Only seven cases of
infection were related to consuming contaminated food. Eleven cases ended in the death of patients.
Invasive listeriosis is a difficult-to-treat infection with a significant mortality rate. It requires decisive action by monitoring the prevalence and extent of food contamination with these microorganisms and preventing epidemic outbreaks. Research on listeriosis should focus on improving the clinical treatment of severe cases of infection and studying the complex mechanisms of their pathogenesis.
Abstract The presence of Listeria rods, especially Listeria monocytogenes, in the environment and food products, contributes each year to death of both humans and animals. The ability of bacteria to ...lead a saprophytic and parasitic existence as well as insensitivity to many physicochemical factors greatly facilitates the spread and guarantees access to a wide range of vulnerable organisms. Although the factors predisposing to infection result in a relatively low incidence of disease, infections are characterized by high mortality and often the need of hospitalization. The disease most often manifests itself in the form of bacteremia, meningitis and encephalitis as well as perinatal infections. The way Listeria spreads in the body contributes to the identification of new types of the disease. Recent studies on the acquisition of pathogenicity traits, dose and development of antibiotic resistance as well as numerous reports on incidence of these bacteria and the epidemics they caused, have led to more efficient monitoring of the pathogen . The qualification of the disease has also changed and, currently, listeriosis is considered a contemporary threat to life and health. 1. Introduction. 2. Genus Listeria .
Listeriosis is a zoonosis usually transmitted through contaminated food
or vertically from mother to foetus. In an immunocompetent, adult
person the infection results in transitory asymptomatic
...gastrointestinal colonization or febrile, non-invasive gastroenteritis.
The infection of the foetus, newborn or immunocompromised person can
result in a serious invasive disease with high mortality rate. As a
facultative intracellular pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes is widely
used as model for studying cellular biology and mechanisms of cellular
immunity.
toksoplazmozis'in seroprevalansı ve bunların birlikte görülme sıklıklarının belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Yapılan klinik
muayenede çalışmaya alınan süt ineklerinin ortalama nabız frekansı 72±12/dak., solunum frekansı 24±6/dak, beden ısısı
ise 38.2±0.6sC olarak belirlendi. Brucella abortus antikorlarının varlığı Mikrotüp Aglütinasyon Testi (MAT) ile tarandı.

örneklerin serolojik incelemesinde; brusellozis'in %19, listeriozis'in %37 ve toksoplazmozis'in %53 oranında seropozitif
This study was conducted on a total of 100 dairy cows of Holstein and Holstein crossbred cows of 3-7 years of age
between. December 2005 and April 2006. The aim of the study was to determine seroprevalence of brucellosis,
listeriosis and toxoplasmosis, and the frequency of their co-existence in dairy cows. Clinically, the mean pulsus rate,
breathing rate and body temperature were determined as 72±12/min., 24±6/min and 38.2±0.6sC, respectively.
Antibodies against Brucella abortus were determined by means of Microplate Agglutination Test (MAT). The titreş above
1/40 were considered seropositive. The 'O' antibodies, generated against Listeria monocytogenes, were determined by
Osebold method. At least 2 (+) results at the titreş above 1/100 were considered seropositive. Toxoplasma gondii
antibodies were analyzed by Sabin-Feldman Dye Test (SFBT). The titreş above 1/16 were considered seropositive. As a
result, in dairy cows of Kırıkkale region the seroprevalence of brucellosis, listeriosis and toxoplasmosis were 19%, 37%
and 53%, respectively. The frequency of co-existence all three together was 5%. The frequency of co-existence of
brucella with listeria was 4%, of brucella with toxoplasma was 7%, and of listeria with toxoplasma was 13%.
