The chapter examines the development and current state of academic public policy programmes in the Czech Republic and the role of policy analysis instruction in them. The chapter is based mostly upon ...an analysis of the publicly available list of study programmes accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, an internet search, e-mail correspondence with public policy and policy analysis instructors, syllabus analyses as well as a quantitative analysis of masters theses in the three main public policy programmes. After a brief introduction to the Czech higher education system, an overview of study programmes / fields in public policy and related fields is provided. Then the content of policy analysis courses is described. The orientation of the three main public policy programmes is analysed using unique data on masters theses. The chapter concludes with some preliminary findings regarding public policy / policy analysis instruction in the Czech Republic.
The purpose of the present study is to explore the information seeking behavior patterns among mine engineering graduates studying in Tehran University. Findings indicate that out of 2515 documents ...cited in 16 Master theses, books(with 59.33%) had the highest rank of citation, English sources, compared with Persian, have been 57.7%. The half life of paper collections calculated as more than seven years and the other sources a little more than six years.
This study examined 259 master's theses in the field of educational technology completed in Turkey during 2000-2007. The results suggested that quantity and quality of educational technology research ...varied according to years and universities. A great majority of the theses employed quantitative paradigm, and qualitative studies made about one fourth of the total studies. Approximately 80 % of the theses were based on descriptive models using questionnaires, tests, and scales as data gathering instruments. The samples included university students in three out of every four theses. A significant majority of the theses employed descriptive statistical techniques and only a limited number of experimental theses conducted inferential statistical analyses. The most frequently investigated topics were computer-assisted instruction, alternative teaching and learning approaches, web-based learning, difficulties in integrating information technologies into educational practice, Internet-based learning, and distance education.

We examined the reliability of grading master's theses at a New Zealand university, where a variant of the academic journal review system is employed. The overall correlation between the grades ...recommended by internal and external markers of master's theses in psychology and applied psychology at this university was 0.39, which is similar to that produced between reviewers of submissions to academic journals. We conclude that thesis grading is about as reliable as the determination of the merit of journal submissions, which is usually regarded as rather poor. Applying a more objective rubric to thesis marking might raise the reliability, but such a change might also lower the creative and unique nature of theses, and hence reduce the contribution that an individual thesis can make to its particular discipline.
