After World War II, educational television became a significant tool for improving the quality of schooling worldwide. The use of educational television was starting to be considered a modernized way ...for developing the educational system in many countries including South Korea. Drawing on the archival sources of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Korean government, this article examines the USAID's educational aid programs in South Korea by focusing on the establishment of educational television. It first covers the rise of modernization theory as a framework for national development by focusing on educational television in less-industrialized countries. The second part explores how educational television in South Korea was shaped by the international interaction. Finally, this study argues that the case of educational television in South Korea reflects the dynamics of dualized modernization, in which South Korean adapt U.S. educational television to their own needs.
Abstract The XXI century as the era of changes, implies transformation of environments and societies on a global level. Driven by IT as tools conducive for generating novel solutions, it triggered ...creative rethinking of architecture in order to overcome the stiff dogmatic grip of the twentieth century Modernism. Within these frames we discuss architecture for wellness as the answer to rising resentments regarding living environments. The chronological line-up of theories and ideas regarding architecture for wellness reveals the importance of Men as the ultimate measure of designers’ accomplishments. Architecture is analysed as a catalyst for channelling empathetic feelings and support. Through design examples grouped in three distinct categories ranging from randomly observed details, to nature and IT driven cases, we explain the sensorial and cognitive mechanisms that make them empathetic to human conditions and resourceful as endorsement and promoter of positive changes on personal and societal levels.

This book explores the role of native place associations in the development of modern Chinese urban society and the role of native-place identity in the development of urban nationalism. From the ...late nineteenth to the early twentieth century, sojourners from other provinces dominated the population of Shanghai and other expanding commercial Chinese cities. These immigrants formed native place associations beginning in the imperial period and persisting into the mid-twentieth century. Goodman examines the modernization of these associations and argues that under weak urban government, native place sentiment and organization flourished and had a profound effect on city life, social order and urban and national identity.
The paper sought to examine factors affecting the level of adoption of technologies transferred to farmers in the Modernisation of Agriculture in Ghana Project (MAG) from gender and power relations ...perspectives. Results of the study indicate a high rate of adoption of rice and maize technologies by both male and female farmers. Factors influencing adoption include extension service delivery, membership in farmer-based organisation (FBOs), and age. The likelihood of adoption of technologies increased with being a female farmer compared to being a male farmer. There was a discriminatory access to production resources such as land and tractor services against female farmers.
