This article aimed to explore engaged scholarship project leaders’ rationales for starting their engaged scholarship project in communities. Community engagement (or engaged scholarship) has become a ...required part of the academia and increasingly becoming a scholarly endeavor. Academics in the education faculty at one university in South Africa were asked to voluntarily participate in a study exploring their rationales for starting their engaged scholarship projects. Semi-structured interviews were held with project leaders. Responses indicated four factors in rationales, firstly, the context selected for project were closely linked to project leader’s early experiences in education, secondly, project leaders selected subjects that were known for being problematic to teach, thirdly, the challenges within the context motivated project leaders to become involved and lastly, project leaders indicated that their motivation to remain involved in the project stemmed from wanting to develop the project further. The study was limited to project leaders in one faculty and only focused on rationales. Engaged scholarship projects are closely intertwined with personal backgrounds. It is recommended that community engagement project leaders reflect on their rationales to build more robust projects.
One of the many factors that supports student achievement is IQ (Intelligence Question). This study aimed to find out the relationship between intellectual ability (IQ) and the learning motivation of ...psychology students. The research method used is a non-experimental quantitative method and a statistical analysis approach using correlational analysis supported by SPSS version 26.0. Based on the research results, there is a significant relationship between IQ and Learning Motivation. Based on the Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.841, so it is more significant than 0.05, so there is no relationship between high IQ and learning motivation. The level of closeness of the relationship is -0.010, which, if confirmed by the correlation category, is below 0.020, which means the relationship is very low. This means there is no guarantee that the motivation to learn is high if IQ is high. Looking at the direction of the relationship, namely negative, it means that the higher a person's IQ, the lower the learning motivation. Thus, it can be concluded that the relationship formed between IQ test results and learning achievement is a low or weak but sure relationship. So, it can be said that there is no positive relationship between Intellectual Intelligence (IQ) and student learning motivation by looking at the significant relationship between IQ and learning motivation.
We studied the effects of programming learning models on the motivation of elementary school students to learn programming. The motivational effects of three teaching models were compared: (1) a ...lecture model, in which students created games while being taught one game creation method after another; (2) a collaborative model, in which students shared a textbook with a partner and created games while teaching each other; and (3) an independent model, in which students created games independently while referring to a provided textbook. The results of this study showed that for students using the lecture and collaborative models as opposed to the independent model, motivation increased significantly.
The paper outlines a new and broadly inclusive conceptual
itinerary for the scientific study of personality development across the human
life course. From the standpoint of the person as a social
...actor, a first line of development runs from the temperament
dimensions observed in infancy through the establishment of adult personality
traits, tracking a movement toward greater elaboration and regulation of the
person's socio-emotional performance style. A second line of development
traces continuity and change in the motivated agent, running
from the child's consolidation of theory of mind, through an age
5-7 shift, to the articulation in adolescence and adulthood of life goals
and values. From the perspective of the autobiographical
author, a third line of personality development runs from the sharing
of episodic memories between preschool children and their parents to the
emergence of autobiographical reasoning skills in adolescence, ultimately
resulting in the construction of an integrative life story, or narrative
identity. The itinerary expands the purview of personality development beyond
the canonical trait concept to encompass contemporary theories and findings in
evolutionary psychology, sociology, and motivational psychology, as well as the
study of cognitive development in children, moral development, political
orientations, religious attitudes and practices, autobiographical memory, and
the master narratives of culture.
The effects of video games on self-esteem is an understudied area in social science research, despite the gaming industries' massive economic growth and how widespread games have become in everyday ...lives. This paper explores and investigates literature on how playing video games could
impact psychological well-being, specifically self-esteem. Previous research has demonstrated that participation in playing sports can have positive effects on self-esteem; could the same be true for participation or competence in playing video games? The effects and implications of how video
games can impact an individual's self-esteem is important for clinicians to understand.

Purpose
This paper aims to examine the literature of CSR motivation and presents research results from a case study of the water sector (water companies from Denmark, the UK, the USA and South ...Africa) and its motivation for and maturity in its CSR work.
Design/methodology/approach
The methodology used in this paper is first a literature review followed by research done with ethnographic methods such as participant observations, interviews and document analysis.
Findings
Based on a literature review and research in water companies’ motivation and maturity based on Crowther (2006) and Crowther and Reis’ (2011) CSR maturity typology, the paper suggests an extension of this into a CSR Maturity Framework by adding profit-making, legitimacy and business ethics as clusters of motives for businesses to engage in CSR work. The concrete findings of the water sector suggest it as semi-mature according to the proposed CSR Maturity Framework, because it has only reached the level of CSR reporting, but neither suggests definitions of sustainability nor shows any particularly good transparency and accountability yet.
Research limitations/implications
The research is limited to water companies in four regions – Denmark, the UK, the USA and South Africa – which means that such companies in other regions may differ from the findings in this paper. However, these companies are especially chosen according to their similarities, which means that it is not the point of the paper to cover all water companies in the world, but to retrieve findings from a specifically chosen type of water companies that share a specifically institutional setup.
Originality/value
The originality and value of the paper is based on the findings of the research in motivation and maturity in the cases of water companies, which have been used to elaborate on an existing CSR framework – the CSR maturity typology suggested by Crowther (2006) and Crowther and Reis (2011) into a CSR Maturity Framework incorporating businesses’ motives of profit-making, legitimacy and business ethics. The CSR Maturity Framework will be applicable for analyzing the CSR maturity for any business sector, and it adds value for businesses in its clarifying and suggesting themes that business sectors need to elaborate.
An important research paradigm applied to the study of adolescent resistance to reading—listening to student voice—has yielded rich information regarding adolescent literacy practices, adolescent ...agency, and adolescent identity as components of resistance to reading. Instructional perspectives of teachers and researchers also serve to shed light on the phenomenon and provide insight on better understanding the interplay between adolescent resistance to reading and struggle with literacy acquisition.
For some teachers, the “problem” with adolescent readers and resistance to reading lies outside their sphere of responsibility or influence; however, adolescent and researcher voices provide a somewhat different perspective. Understanding and addressing the disjuncture becomes particularly important when addressing the instructional needs of struggling adolescent readers: Readers who resist reading risk becoming readers who struggle, and those who already struggle with reading miss important opportunities for improvement through interaction with text. Instructional implications aimed at addressing resistance to in‐school reading are also presented.
