This second edition, in Open Access, aims to provide a comprehensive and practical overview of the knowledge required for the assessment and management of the older adult with or at risk of fragility ...fracture, with additional focus on those who are frail. It considers this from the perspectives of all the clinical and home care settings in which this group of patients receive care and is relevant to all global locations. The concept of orthogeriatric care is explored in detail. Global estimates suggest that there were 21 million men and 137 million women aged 50 years or more at high fracture risk in 2010. This incidence is expected to double by 2040, with the most significant increase in Asia. Fragility fracture is one of the foremost challenges for health care providers and thehe global demand for nursing care for patients with fragility fractures across the world is immense. Hip fracture is particularly challenging as these significant injuries often occur in frail older people requiring hospitalisation and orthopaedic surgery. Such injuries and associated surgery result in increased frailty, worsening health and wellbeing, pain, disability, reduced quality of life, loss of independence, and decreased life expectancy. Care providers need to understand the experience of fragility fracture from the perspective of patients and families so that direct improvements in care can be based on the perspectives of the users. Expert care of patients following fractures that require hospitalisation and orthopaedic surgery involves skill in the care and treatment of frail older people as we as individuals with an injury and undergoing surgery. Nurses have a significant role in interdisciplinary collaborative care provided through orthogeriatric models of care. There is increasing evidence that such models significantly improve patient outcomes. High quality, evidence-based orthogeriatric care is increasingly shown to have positive impact on outcomes for recovery, rehabilitation, and secondary prevention of further fracture. This book significantly supports the aims and values of the Fragility Fracture Network and, as such, supports the learning needs of nurses and other allied health professionals which will enable a comprehensive approach to nursing practice in orthogeriatric and fragility fracture care. ; Provides a comprehensive discussion of nursing the frail older person with a fragility fracture across Europe Based on a two-day workshop of like-minded specialist and advanced nurses from over 20 countries Acts as the course text/reader for a Europe-wide education programme in all relevant settings (Emergency Department, Fracture Clinic, Trauma Unit, Orthopaedic Ward, Rehabilitation setting) Open Access
Nurse managers’ workload is considered overwhelming and the resources and support insufficient. Stress from workload has adverse psychological and physical effects and impedes strategic, visible and ...active leadership. This study aimed to examine nurse managers’ stress from workload and its associations to overall job stress, job satisfaction and practice environment. A survey comprising the Nursing Context Index was administered to 490 nurse managers in Finnish central hospitals. The study was reported using the STROBE statement. The response rate was 42.7% (n = 209). A statistical analysis revealed that almost every fifth nurse manager experienced high stress from workload with connection to higher job stress overall, higher intent to leave the organization, lower job satisfaction overall, personally and professionally, as well as a more negative perception of the practice environment. Nurse managers’ jobs require adequate resources, clear division of work and better empowering structures.

Multiple challenges are associated with safely managing and accommodating patients with the disease of severe obesity in the radiographic suite. It is imperative that nurses and technologists work ...cohesively to decrease the risk of complications, optimize results, and improve patient well-being in this specialized population.
•Severe obesity is a global health issue with patients requiring specialized diagnosis, treatment, and care through the health care continuum.•It is imperative that the nurse or technologist in the radiology suite prepares for the patient, assesses the patient on arrival, and manages the patient after procedure to minimize complications and risk of injury.•When a provider orders imaging on a patient with severe obesity, the patient's weight needs to be communicated at that time. This allows adequate time to evaluate what is the optimal imaging study to assist with the diagnosis of the patient's symptoms.•Patients with severe obesity require a tailored standard of care as radiographers must compensate for issues arising from both technical and patient care considerations.

The nursing profession in Greenland, particularly in rural and remote areas, faces challenges due to geographical limitation and a lack of interdisciplinary collaboration. The registration process ...and status of internationally educated nurses (IENs) in Greenland are unclear. This article aimed to analyze existing policies and propose recommendations for an independent registration process for IENs in Greenland. A qualitative discourse analysis was used to critically discuss existing policies and regulations governing nursing registration in Greenland. Relevant legislation, government reports, and official documents were reviewed. Legislative regulations protect the title of registered nurse in both Greenland and Denmark. To work in Greenland, an IEN must have a residence permit. With recent health agreements between Greenland and Denmark, both countries have streamlined the permit acquisition process for foreign healthcare professionals, making it more accessible. However, the process of acquiring a license to work as a registered nurse for IENs lacks clarity. Policy reform is needed to establish a group of diverse nurse experts under the National Board of Health responsible for the assessment and registration of IEN qualifications. There is also a need for a bridging education program or national licensure examination which could facilitate faster IEN recognition. Mutual recognition of nurse licenses between Greenland and Denmark should be established to ensure efficient healthcare delivery and maintain professional standards. Embracing IENs can address nursing shortages and improve healthcare services in Greenland.
