Nurse motivation is a prerequisite for improved patient outcomes, performance and job satisfaction. There are studies discussed the factors influencing nurses’ motivation and the job performance ...however little research has been conducted on the factors influencing the career advancement of nurses to nursing management positions which can bridge the gap in this area.
The aim of the study was to comprehend the intrinsic, extrinsic, and demographic motivation factors that influence nurses’ career advancement into nursing management positions.
This study employed a quantitative, cross sectional and descriptive design. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed among 158 nurses who were either planning to advance their career in nursing management in the future (131) or working in Saudi Arabian hospitals in nursing management positions (27) at the time of study. A preliminary study was also conducted prior to the main study. A self-administered questionnaire, measured using a 7-point Likert scale was used for the study. The study utilized SPSS-19 software pack and descriptive analysis for analyzing data.
The results of the study indicated that the intrinsic motivation factors that influenced the nurses to advance the career into nursing management positions included joy and happiness (p = 0.002), sense of personal accomplishment (p = 0.025), independence in the job (p = 0.010), achievements in life (p = 0.000), freedom of doing the job effectively (p = 0.027), reassurance (p = 0.000), personal satisfaction (p = 0.007), self-esteem (p = 0.012), jobdiscrimination at base-level positions (p = 0.001), responsibility (p = 0.000), and opportunities to use their abilities (p = 0.007). The extrinsic motivation factors that motivated the nurses included the provision of more educational opportunities (p = 0.006), more flexibility in family life (p = 0.001), more suitable for a healthy living (p = 0.022), and opening up more career prospects (p = 0.046), among others. Finally, the demographic factors that motivated nurses included sex (p = 0.001), marital status (p = 0.000), current nursing job (p = 0.025), and total years of nursing experience (p = 0.018).
The present study demonstrated that intrinsic, extrinsic and demographic factors motivated nurses to advance their careers into nursing management positions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Accordingly, the study renders important implications for the career development of nurses in relation to nursing management roles.
Postoperative pain seriously affects the recovery process of patients, resulting in prolonged hospital stay and increased care costs. Appropriate application of patient-controlled analgesia devices ...can effectively relieve perioperative acute pain. In 1994 patient-controlled analgesia began to be used in Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and the Acute Pain Service Working Group was established in 2004. With the cooperation of anesthesiologists and specialist nurses, the group jointly has implemented the whole process and standardized management based on patient-controlled analgesia, and constantly improved and innovated working methods, laying a solid foundation for the development of postoperative pain management. This paper systematically reviews and summarizes the work from the aspects of clinical focus, nursing management experience, promotion and dissemination of pain treatment concepts, and development of acute pain service model under the new situation, with the hope of providing valuable reference
This study aims to determine the effects of nurses' perceived workplace incivility on nurses' presenteeism and turnover intention and to reveal the mediating role of work stress and psychological ...resilience in the possible impact.
Nurses directly contribute to the treatment of patients. The problems nurses encounter in the workplace can negatively affect nurses' attitudes towards work. Therefore, the problems faced by nurses should be determined.
This study complies with the STROBE checklist. This cross-sectional survey was conducted with 302 nurses working in a university hospital in the Konya province of Turkey. Data were collected in May-July 2021. The questionnaire consisted of six parts: sociodemographic characteristics form, workplace incivility scale, psychological resilience scale, work stress scale, turnover intention scale and presenteeism scale. The data were analysed using descriptive statistical methods and partial least-squares path analysis.
It was determined that workplace incivility positively and significantly affected turnover intention, presenteeism and work stress. In contrast, it negatively and significantly affected psychological resilience. In addition, psychological resilience played a mediating role in the effect of workplace incivility on presenteeism.
The results reveal that the behaviours of incivility encountered by nurses in the workplace increase their presenteeism and turnover intention, and work stress further strengthens these effects. The psychological resilience of nurses is a factor that can help them eliminate their negative emotions and attitudes. Therefore, it is recommended that nursing and health managers first identify the stress factors in the workplace and be determined to fight them. In addition, organizing training and providing psychological support to increase nurses' psychological resilience may enable nurses to develop more positive feelings about their jobs and workplaces.
Nursing and health managers must determine workplace incivility behaviours and inform all employees about these behaviours, their consequences and how to deal with such incivility. In addition, nursing and health managers must determine the stress factors in the workplace and be adamant about combating these factors. In addition, nursing and health managers must give importance to training that will increase the psychological resilience of nurses.

To evaluate the intervention efficacy of medical adhesive‐related skin injury (MARSI) nursing management at peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) insertion site on oncological patients. This ...study used the case‐control research method. We randomly divided 156 patients with PICCs implanted in our hospital's surgery department from January 2019 to December 2020 into a control group (85 patients) and an intervention group (71 patients). The control group was the conventional nursing care group, and the intervention group was the MARSI nursing management group. Through implementing a series of interventions (ie, risk assessment, risk prevention, and risk management) for the MARSI nursing care management group, the incidence rate of MARSI, and its types (including mechanical injury, dermatitis, maceration, and folliculitis) were compared between the two groups. The total incidence rate of MARSI was 30.59% in the control group and 7.04% in the intervention group (P < .05), and the difference was statistically significant. The incidence rate of mechanical injury in the control group was 12.94%, which decreased to 2.82% after intervention (P < .05), and the difference was statistically significant. The incidence rate of dermatitis in the intervention group was 11.76%, which decreased to 2.82% after intervention (P < .05), and the difference was statistically significant. By implementing MARSI nursing care management, the incidence rate of MARSI at PICC insertion site can be effectively reduced.
