Role assignment in nursing simulation is a time met with great anxiety due to the fear of the unknown, performing in front of faculty and peers, and social evaluation anxiety. Using role rubrics and expert modeling videos may better prepare students for their role in simulation, reducing these barriers and promoting student learning. A convenience sample of 13 junior-level Bachelor of Nursing students enrolled in a summer medical surgical nursing course. quantitative cross-sectional design with a content analysis of students open-ended responses. All participants (n = 13) reported reading the role rubric and role-playing to prepare, as well as believing that the expert modeling video reduced their simulation anxiety. Providing students with role rubrics and role demonstrations through expert modeling videos may reduce students’ anxiety and enhance preparation for simulated learning experiences.

Nurse educators must be equipped to instruct nursing students on intraprofessional practice within primary care. A simulated primary care visit was piloted with graduate and undergraduate nursing students using telehealth technology and standardized patients. Students completed the Interprofessional Collaborative Competency Attainment Scale (ICCAS), which revealed improvement in student perceived ability to communicate, collaborate, and understand the nursing roles and responsibilities. Space is a commodity that is in high demand for both theoretical education and performance-based education. With the global nursing shortage, nursing educators are seeing an increase in their enrollment numbers making space more difficult to attain. We know that an integral component of nursing simulation is the use of deliberate reflection in the post-simulation debriefing. However, there have been very few comparisons and no studies were found on how the location of the debriefing effects the student experiences.
Using the Debriefing Experience Scale, a quasi-experimental design with a convenience sample of 4th-year undergraduate nursing students compared the experience of debriefing in one room versus using multiple rooms.
Two areas were identified as statistically significant; “the importance of the debriefing to help make connections between theory and real life” and “the debriefing environment was physically comfortable.”
Debriefing experiences were largely the same. The two items that were identified as different need to further be explored to determine how this might affect participants’ simulation debriefing experience.

A Multiple Patient Simulation (MPS) involves multiple low-fidelity or high-fidelity simulators in one simulation setting. Previous research indicates MPS is a promising educational method that reflects the real-world experience of nurses who must care for multiple patients simultaneously.
The MPS program was developed according to a six-step approach, and four standardized patients were trained. This randomized controlled trial examined the effectiveness of the MPS program in clinical judgment and practice readiness. A total of 46 nursing college students participated: 22 in the MPS group and 24 in the control group. A presurvey was conducted, and the experimental group conducted the MPS. Control group participants were provided a video lecture. Both groups completed a postsurvey.
The MPS group showed a significant increase compared to the control group in both clinical judgment (t = 4.95, p < .001) and practice readiness (t = 6.69, p < .001).
Findings indicate MPS can be a valuable training method to help nursing students prepare for nursing practice.

Consequently, most nursing educators have had to update their teaching modalities to align with this commitment. However, educators need support in initiating and implementing these changes, primarily occurring in simulation and clinical areas.

With an increase in human trafficking in the United States, there is a need for nursing curricula to provide education and engagement in recognizing and appropriately caring for victims. The purpose ...of this article is to describe an undergraduate nursing simulation involving a human trafficking victim with a discussion of how the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's (AACN) Essentials were addressed by the simulation. The results of the course evaluation indicated that providing an opportunity for baccalaureate nursing students to engage in a simulation involving a victim of human trafficking allowed them to solidify classroom theory and education. Students reported increased confidence in recognizing victims after participating in the education and simulation. In addition, the simulation met many of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's new Essentials further highlighting the importance of this clinical activity within the nursing curriculum. Nursing education is obligated to empower students to identify social determinants of health and advocate for social justice related to vulnerable populations. Because nurses are the largest group of healthcare providers, they are likely to encounter human trafficking victims and should be educated to identify victims in practice.
•A large percentage of human trafficking victims encounter healthcare providers during the time they are trafficked.•It is essential that nurses be trained to recognize and appropriately treat victims.•A human trafficking simulation was associated with increased confidence in recognizing and advocating for victims.•Analysis of the simulation with AACN's Essentials determined that the simulation met many of the competencies.

The advantages of the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) in assessing the skills of nursing students have been recognized, but still contested.
This systematic review aimed to compare and contrast OSCE use across countries as a simulation assessment tool incorporating perspectives of nursing students.
A systematic literature was conducted utilizing Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The databases that were featured are EBSCO, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and PubMed from 2017 to 2022. The Mixed Method Assessment Tool (MMAT) was used to assess the quality of the studies. The National Health and Medical Research Council's standards were also used to evaluate quantitative studies.
There were 182 articles found in a literature search. A total of 18 articles met the inclusion criteria. Students reported that the OSCA is well-structured, sequential, and covers a wide range of knowledge and skills. Despite the fact that it is stressful, expensive, and requires more time for preparation and implantation, many still prefer it because of its benefits
This review can conclude that students exhibited favorable perspectives toward using OSCE, contributing to the development of clinical skills, and increasing self-confidence in their knowledge. Conducting more research related to the comparison of OSCE to clinical practice scores outcomes is advised and strategies for lowering stress and cost exam are recommended.
