This community service program is carried out in the form of library management assistance based on SLiMS at Darut Taqwa High School, Purwosari Pasuruan. Libraries have an important role in building ...a learning community, as well as school libraries. The school library is a strategic educational facility, because apart from supporting learning activities. The school library is also one of the barometers of school quality standards. Darut Taqwa High School was chosen as a mentoring partner on the basis that this institution is one of the institutions in Pasuruan Regency that has received an A (excellent) accreditation. However, the quality standard of library administration is still far from the national library standard. This assistance uses the participatory approach. The steps for implementing this assistance are focused on 1) selecting the assisted person, 2) installing the SLiMS application, 3) the SLiMS operation tutorial, and 4) managing the SLiMS-based library. The results of this assistance are 1) the availability of library staff at Darut Taqwa High School who understands SLiMS-based library management, 2) the availability of a SLiMS-based library automation system, 3) the creation of a system for managing library materials, members, and library administration, and 4) the creation of a good library layout that is quite close to the minimum standard of the national library.
Humans have shaped the environment through landscape transformation, disturbance, and resource exploitation, leading to major habitat modification and fragmentation. Mammal species are massively ...threatened by these changes and their diversity implies various responses to human disturbance. It is essential to understand the conditions for their persistence in human-dominated landscapes, and the drivers of humans-mammals' coexistence to apply relevant conservation measures. The Garden Route Biosphere Reserve, in South Africa, a mosaic landscapes where human activities and wildlife meet, is an ideal site to examine how anthropogenic attributes influence wildlife occurrence. To maximise our area coverage through a replicable, low-cost protocol, we designed an online survey aimed at residents to investigate the effect of landscape metrics and property attributes — the availability and type of anthropogenic resources, the integrity and type of natural habitats, structural disturbances and interferences — on the persistence of mammals in such environments. We collected data from 247 respondents and modelled the drivers of occurrence for 14 mammal species (>500 g). We found species-specific responses to synthetic variables describing anthropogenic features in the studied landscape and used the anthropodependence framework to categorise species profiles. We showed that human disturbance combined with the availability of anthropogenic resources and natural habitats defined various categories of species profiles, which should require differential conservation actions. Local ecological knowledge proved promising to understand conditions for mammal persistence in human-dominated landscapes. This method also allowed researchers to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders, thus creating a hub for knowledge exchange.
Oyek is a healthy alternative food and is needed by various levels of society because it is high in carbohydrates and low in sugar. The production of motorcycle taxis in Lumbir Village still uses ...traditional methods and processing. In order to be able to penetrate a wider market and be able to increase the economic value of residents, it is important to apply appropriate technology for processing motorcycles. The application of appropriate technology will be efficient and sustainable with the institutional support of solid and skilled farmer groups. Empowerment of farmer organizations through production management and marketing is a necessity. The framework of this service activity was carried out and was welcomed by the residents of Lumbir Village. The activity was carried out using a participatory method by involving the target audience, namely the Mekar Sari farmer group with 24 members, the Sido Rukun farmer group with 20 members and community members to play an active role in the activity and was accompanied by a technology application team who acted as extension workers and facilitators. as well as continuous evaluation and monitoring. The monitoring results are expected to increase the desire and motivation to improve the standard of living and welfare of the target community. This technology transfer has answered the partner’s problems, namely First, the technological aspect: the availability of appropriate technology for processing motorcycles that are more modern, efficient, healthy and of good quality. The technology includes grinding machines, rice granules, solar and gas drying houses and product packaging equipment. Second, the Social Aspect: the service provider has made a social approach to the village government, community leaders and farmers about the benefits of motorcycle production technology. The conclusion is that in general, the application of this technology can increase the economic level of the members of the cassava farmer group, build a more efficient and quality processing system, and increase the economic value of the motorcycle product with the existence of quality motorcycle products, modern packaging and production permits from the government.
The Papa Andina network employs collective action in two novel approaches for fostering market chain innovation. The participatory market chain approach (PMCA) and stakeholder platforms engage small ...potato producers together with market agents and agricultural service providers in group activities to identify common interests, share market knowledge and develop new business opportunities. These forms of collective action have generated commercial, technological and institutional innovations, and created new market niches for Andean native potatoes grown by poor farmers in remote highland areas. These innovations have benefited small farmers as well as other market chain actors. This paper describes Papa Andina’s experiences with collective action for market chain innovation. It then discusses the implications of these experiences for the understanding of collective action and the policy implications for research and development organizations.
Bolivia included Vivir Bien in its Constitution in 2009. This concept of indigenous origin taken up by the government of Evo Morales, places Nature and Human within a system of interconnection and ...interdependence. This rewriting of indigenous philosophies in the political sphere, leads us to question and compare social representations about Nature. How do local actors, by their diversity and at a time of globalization, think in this system? What visions of the world, of themselves and of the other (human or non-human) do they have? This article is based on different ethnographic research in Bolivia: in the administrative capital of La Paz, in the popular town of El Alto or in the Amazon village of San Jose de Uchupiamonas. From a participatory image methodology, I seek to analyze and to compare interpretation modes of the Vivir Bien and the perception category about Nature.
•We report findings from Driverless Mobility Citizen Dialogues held across 15 cities.•Lay citizens were optimistic for driverless mobility despite technological and implementation concerns.•Active ...leadership of governments was preferred to ensure safe and equitable driverless mobility.•Accessible explanations of AV technology, standards and impacts on mobility and society need to be developed.•The Citizen Dialogue provided richer insights than traditional methods (e.g., surveys and interviews).
Engaging lay citizens and eliciting their inputs, concerns and aspirations are important for industry and policymakers when developing and implementing driverless mobility. We present findings from a series of Citizen Dialogues on driverless mobility attended by 945 citizens in 15 cities across North America, Europe and Asia. The dialogue used a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods and was deliberative in nature to instil realism and provide richer insights. In all cities we found optimism for driverless mobility. Nevertheless, citizens exhibited lower levels of trust and acceptance as vehicle automation increased and this is potentially related to how automation levels are currently presented; in an incremental fashion leading to the perception that vehicle automation gets increasingly difficult, complex, and thus potentially dangerous. We identified a need for further investigation into how trust and acceptance are related with perceptions and understandings of automation levels, and how vehicle automation should be communicated to citizens more effectively. Findings further showed that public transport was the preferred implementation model for driverless mobility. National governments were most trusted to lead the development and implementation of driverless mobility in all cities as they are trusted to safeguard the interest of citizens with integrity and hold the authority for developing and setting standards and regulating autonomous vehicle technology. Building on our findings, we discuss implications and propose recommendations for industry, policymakers and researchers.
Sustainable development reveals a modern concept of development in which the environmental dimension is the most important . Then we are faced with the problem of the necessity of preserving the ...environment on the one hand, and the imperative to achieve sustainable development on the other hand, especially in developing countries, which reveals an interactive relationship between environment and development. Algeria, like other developing countries, works to achieve a balance between the two concepts when integrating the environment dimension in its development projects through several legal methods and means(environmental planning, impact assessment studies, environmental control, environmental levies) and guidelines (the polluter pays principle, precaution, prevention,…), and this appears at the level of legislation related to sustainable development as well as in the governmental strategies followed, which presented several obstacles and gaps that must be reviewed, this is what we will address in this research.
Few interventions have successfully promoted healthy eating and active living among children with effective changes in anthropometric health outcomes. Well-designed interventions involving multiple ...strategies to convert the knowledge already available into action are needed for preventing childhood obesity. In this study, an educational programme called “Planning Health in School” (PHS-pro) was designed, implemented and evaluated to contribute to the prevention of obesity in childhood. The PHS-pro aimed at improving the eating behaviours and lifestyles of Portuguese grade-6 children towards healthier nutritional status. This paper describes and evaluates the PHS-pro concerning: (i) the research design within the theoretical framework grounded on “The Transtheoretical Model” and the stages of change; (ii) the educational components and the application of the participatory methodology to engage children to meet their needs, as active participants in their change process; and (iii) the process evaluation of the intervention. The implementation of the PHS-pro took into account the views and inputs of the participants for evaluating the educational components that should be considered in the designing of interventions aiming to be effective strategies. From the health promotion perspective, this study is important because it examines new approaches and pathways to effectively prevent overweight and obesity in children.
In the periphery of Mexico City, the informal motorcycle cab service (MCS) has provided people with local mobility for the last twenty years, involving thousands of jobs. Through the last five years ...or so, a formalization of the MCS has been in process. This article discusses a governance-based participatory workshop supporting such a process of formalization. In the workshop, stakeholders from different social groups have shared their MCS experience, visions and aspirations. The starting point for the analysis is the storytelling coming from the workshops, ranging from problem definitions to common agreements. Through an interpretative approach, utopian possible futures and storytelling elements are elaborated. These created an outcome that influenced the formalization process of the MCS, promoting electric bike-cabs ('ciclo-taxis') that favor a formal and green guild of transport cooperatives.
