Holographic three-dimensional display is an important display technique because it can provide all depth information of a real or virtual scene without any special eyewear. In recent years, ...with the development of computer and optoelectronic technology, computer-generated holograms have attracted extensive attention and developed as the most promising method to realize holographic display. However, some bottlenecks still restrict the development of computer-generated holograms, such as heavy computation burden, low image quality, and the complicated system of color holographic display. To overcome these problems, numerous algorithms have been investigated with the aim of color dynamic holographic three-dimensional display. In this review, we will explain the essence of various computer-generated hologram algorithms and provide some insights for future research.
Ferroelectret nanogenerators were recently introduced as a promising alternative technology for harvesting kinetic energy. Here we report the device's intrinsic properties that allow for the ...bidirectional conversion of energy between electrical and mechanical domains; thus extending its potential use in wearable electronics beyond the power generation realm. This electromechanical coupling, combined with their flexibility and thin film-like form, bestows dual-functional transducing capabilities to the device that are used in this work to demonstrate its use as a thin, wearable and self-powered loudspeaker or microphone patch. To determine the device's performance and applicability, sound pressure level is characterized in both space and frequency domains for three different configurations. The confirmed device's high performance is further validated through its integration in three different systems: a music-playing flag, a sound recording film and a flexible microphone for security applications.
The emerging diversity of single-cell RNA-seq datasets allows for the full transcriptional characterization of cell types across a wide variety of biological and clinical conditions. However, it is ...challenging to analyze them together, particularly when datasets are assayed with different technologies, because biological and technical differences are interspersed. We present Harmony (https://github.com/immunogenomics/harmony), an algorithm that projects cells into a shared embedding in which cells group by cell type rather than dataset-specific conditions. Harmony simultaneously accounts for multiple experimental and biological factors. In six analyses, we demonstrate the superior performance of Harmony to previously published algorithms while requiring fewer computational resources. Harmony enables the integration of ~10
cells on a personal computer. We apply Harmony to peripheral blood mononuclear cells from datasets with large experimental differences, five studies of pancreatic islet cells, mouse embryogenesis datasets and the integration of scRNA-seq with spatial transcriptomics data.
The proliferation of IoT devices that can be more easily compromised than desktop computers has led to an increase in IoT-based botnet attacks. To mitigate this threat, there is a need for new ...methods that detect attacks launched from compromised IoT devices and that differentiate between hours- and milliseconds-long IoT-based attacks. In this article, we propose a novel network-based anomaly detection method for the IoT called N-BaIoT that extracts behavior snapshots of the network and uses deep autoencoders to detect anomalous network traffic from compromised IoT devices. To evaluate our method, we infected nine commercial IoT devices in our lab with two widely known IoT-based botnets, Mirai and BASHLITE. The evaluation results demonstrated our proposed methods ability to accurately and instantly detect the attacks as they were being launched from the compromised IoT devices that were part of a botnet.
We present simulations from the new "Figuring Out Gas & Galaxies in Enzo" (FOGGIE) project. In contrast to most extant simulations of galaxy formation, which concentrate computational resources on ...galactic disks and spheroids with fluid and particle elements of fixed mass, the FOGGIE simulations focus on extreme spatial and mass resolution in the circumgalactic medium (CGM) surrounding galaxies. Using the Enzo code and a new refinement scheme, FOGGIE reaches spatial resolutions of 381 comoving h−1 pc and resolves extremely low masses ( 1-100 ) out to 100 comoving h−1 kpc from the central halo. At these resolutions, cloud and filament-like structures giving rise to simulated absorption are smaller, and better resolved, than the same structures simulated with standard density-dependent refinement. Most of the simulated absorption arises in identifiable and well-resolved structures with masses 104 , well below the mass resolution of typical zoom simulations. However, integrated quantities such as mass surface density and ionic covering fractions change at only the 30% level as resolution is varied. These relatively small changes in projected quantities-even when the sizes and distribution of absorbing clouds change dramatically-indicate that commonly used observables provide only weak constraints on the physical structure of the underlying gas. Comparing the simulated absorption features to the KODIAQ (Keck Observatory Database of Ionized Absorption toward Quasars) survey of z ∼ 2-3.5 Lyman limit systems, we show that high-resolution FOGGIE runs better resolve the internal kinematic structure of detected absorption and better match the observed distribution of absorber properties. These results indicate that circumgalactic medium resolution is key in properly testing simulations of galaxy evolution with circumgalactic observations.
The proper functioning of biomolecules in living cells requires them to assume particular structures and to undergo conformational changes. Both biomolecular structure and motion can be studied using ...a wide variety of techniques, but none offers the level of detail as do molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Integrating two widely used modeling programs, namely NAMD and VMD, we have created a robust, user-friendly software, QwikMD, which enables novices and experts alike to address biomedically relevant questions, where often only molecular dynamics simulations can provide answers. Performing both simple and advanced MD simulations interactively, QwikMD automates as many steps as necessary for preparing, carrying out, and analyzing simulations while checking for common errors and enabling reproducibility. QwikMD meets also the needs of experts in the field, increasing the efficiency and quality of their work by carrying out tedious or repetitive tasks while enabling easy control of every step. Whether carrying out simulations within the live view mode on a small laptop or performing complex and large simulations on supercomputers or Cloud computers, QwikMD uses the same steps and user interface. QwikMD is freely available by download on group and personal computers. It is also available on the cloud at Amazon Web Services.
Applications of phthalocyanines (Pcs) in electrocatalysis-including the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), the carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO
2
RR), the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and the ...hydrogen evolution reaction (HER)-have attracted considerable attention recently. Pcs and their derivatives are more attractive than many other macrocycles as electrocatalysts since, although they are structurally related to natural porphyrin complexes, they offer the advantages of low cost, facile synthesis and good chemical stability. Moreover, their high tailorability and structural diversity mean Pcs have great potential for application in electrochemical devices. Here we review the structure and composition of Pcs, methods of synthesis of Pcs and their analogues, as well as applications of Pc-based heterogeneous electrocatalysts. Optimization strategies for Pc-based materials for electrocatalysis of ORR, CO
2
RR, OER and HER are proposed, based on the mechanisms of the different electrochemical reactions. We also discuss the structure/composition-catalytic activity relationships for different Pc materials and Pc-based electrocatalysts in order to identify future practical applications. Finally, future opportunities and challenges in the use of molecular Pcs and Pc derivatives as electrocatalysts are discussed.
This review provides a timely and comprehensive overview of the recent progresses in the synthesis and application of phthalocyanine-based heterogeneous electrocatalysts, as well as the structure/composition-catalytic activity relationship, and future prospects.
