Having a unique personal identifier is a prerequisite to run person-centric analytical queries and data mining tasks, such as fraud detection, expert finding, and credit scoring. Personal names are the most commonly used identifier of individuals in datasets; however, the name of a person may not be unique across the dataset's records, especially where data are integrated from various sources. Intelligent systems utilize name matching methods to identify different name representations of persons. The performance of previous name matching methods is inadequate since they solely consider name similarities and ignore dissimilarities. Unavailability of Part of Name (PON, e.g., first name and last name) is an important limitation of dissimilarity consideration. To address this issue, this paper proposes an unsupervised personal name matching framework, namely Swash. This framework can model the information gatherable from a name dataset into a layered Heterogeneous Information Network, which facilitates control over the learning process. Swash predicts PON tags using a self-trainable algorithm and then collectively clusters the name vertices on the network. Evaluations on three public bibliographic datasets (i.e., CiteSeer, ArXiv, and DBLP) recognize the significance of the proposed framework. The results showed that Swash outperformed F1 of the state-of-the-art method up to 38%.
The personal name of the Malaysian Javanese Diaspora (MJD) grows and develops along with the history of dynamic life, thought, social, and cultural developments. This research specifically aims to ...reveal and explain the process of anthroponymy evolution of the Javanese-Malaysia diaspora personal name system from historical, social, cultural, and linguistic characteristics aspects and the meaning of personal names that developed due to the cultural shifts and changes. This research utilizes data sources from lists of names of Javanese diaspora communities and efforts to extract names from MJD people who are in the locations of the states of Johor, Selangor, and Melaka in Peninsular Malaysia. Data were collected using content analysis techniques and in-depth interviews through discussions and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) as well as informal meetings directly at the research location. The results of the study show that the forms of names that appear in MJD society are strongly influenced by historical, social, and cultural phenomena that developed in the era before and after Malaysia's independence. This phenomenon affects the characteristics of personal names so that it can be seen that there are phases of MJD people's names, namely the initial arrival phase, the transition phase, the modern phase, and the latest phase. The results of this study can be used to find out the development of thought, spirit of life, and cultural traditions of a large MJD collective in Peninsular Malaysia.
The paper describes and emphasizes the importance of authority control for personal names in the development of library catalogues. The introductory part of the paper presents a historical overview ...of the development of authority control in world librarianship, the most important library conferences that dealt with this topic, as well as the way authority control functions in the world and in library-information systems operating on the COBISS platform. The paper also describes the entire process of creating the Montenegrin authority file of personal names, its importance for cataloguing and the development of universal bibliographic control and the Montenegrin library community. CONOR.CG is developed in accordance with the Guidelines for Authority Records and References (GARR), in the COMARC/A Format for Authorities Data. The format belongs to the COMARC family, as well as the format for bibliographic data COMARC/B on which the mutual catalogue COBIB.CG is based. The index of authority records is created by applying the national cataloguing rules PPIAK. Authority control of personal names in the COBISS.CG system, in which unique headings are used in Cyrillic and Latin letters, is based on the implemented standard model of bibliographic and authority records with parallel fields.
The Dawro, speakers of an Omotic language in Southwest Ethiopia, use personal names both to establish individuals' linguistic identity and to reflect their culture and language. This article provides ...an explanatory analysis of "traditional" Dawro personal names, the meanings they carry, and the conditions which shape the names that are bestowed upon children. Dawro per-sonal names are predominantly transparent and reflect socio-cultural practices, "traditional" beliefs, and perceptions about what is in the immediate environment. To the best of my knowl-edge, this is the first systematic study on Dawro onomastics to contribute to the recording of Dawro personal names and naming practices.

Abstract
Background
A study in an urban teaching tertiary hospital in 1999 surveyed patient preferences regarding the use of first names in doctor-patient interactions, doctors’ age and gender as ...well as room preference. We sought to replicate this survey to assess changing preferences.
Methods
A 10-item survey was administered to hospitalised inpatients in April 2023. Comparison between preferences in 1999 and 2023 and between those aged under and over 65 years were performed using Chi-Square.
Results
Of the 167 inpatients surveyed, 52% (n = 87) were male. Median age was 66 years. In 1999, 206 patients were surveyed. Median age was 60 years. In 2023, the overwhelming majority (98%) preferred to be addressed by their first name compared with 74% (n = 151) of the 1999 cohort (p < 0.0001). Almost two-thirds (62%) preferred their doctor to introduce themselves by their first name compared to 14% (n = 29) of the 1999 cohort (p < 0.0001). Among those over 65 years, a significant decline in preference of doctors using their full title was observed (90% in 1999 versus 38% presently; p < 0.0001). Previously, 93% indicated no preference regarding physician’s gender versus 80% currently (p = 0.0006). Among those over 65 years, preference for male doctors fell significantly from 22% in 1999 to 1% in 2023 (p = 0.0003). A single room was preferred by 39% (n = 64) now compared with 27% (n = 56) in 1999 (p = 0.03). However, half (52%) of those over 65 years and 38% (n = 30) of those under 65 years still prefer multi-bed wards (p = 0.08). A reduction in those favouring mixed-sex wards was observed from 15% in 1999 to 4% presently (p = 0.01). Less patients under 65 years favour a mixed-sex ward now (3%) compared to 1999 (20%; p = 0.0003) Almost all (98%) patients agreed with medical students (68% in 1999; p < 0.0001).
Conclusion
Agreement with first name use in the doctor-patient relationship as well as medical student education is increasing. Single rooms are increasingly preferred although multi-bed wards are still favoured.
