Two models positing direct versus moderating effects of hardiness were examined in relation to long term positive and negative changes following exposure to traumatic stress. Participating in the ...study were 164 Israeli POWs and a matched group of 184 veterans of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Participants completed a battery of questionnaires that included the Personal Views Survey (hardiness); the Trait, Attitude, and Behavior Change questionnaire; and questions related to their captivity/war experiences. Findings were consistent with a model that posits moderating effects of hardiness on both long term negative and positive changes. The discussion addresses the possible role of hardiness in relation to negative and positive outcomes of traumatic events.
This study focused on positive changes resulting from an illness, which was regarded as a middle-aged life crisis, to clarify factors related to positive changes in middle-aged female cancer ...survivors, and the relationships between these factors. Cancer survivors (N = 9, Age range 40-60 years; 7 breast cancer and 2 uterine cancer survivors) were interviewed. The results of content analysis generated 43 concepts and 18 categories that were integrated into 12 larger categories. The results of this study indicated two new fac-tors: “Desire for change” and “Changes in the activity level, which are not included in the concept of post-traumatic growth (Tedeschi & Calhoun, 1995), which is often used in studies of cancer survivors. Breast cancer survivors in their 50s with children less than five years of age showed many positive changes and related factors after the diagnosis. The model of positive changes in cancer survivors used in this study also suggested interactive relationships between factors and complex interactions between internal and ex-ternal factors.
Abstract There is countrywide a lack of relevant and necessary professional and tertiary institutions offering education and training in green building in South Africa. This causes a lack of ...awareness, knowledge and skill in green-building principles, which directly results in a lack in the introduction and implementation thereof on projects in the property-development industry. The purpose of this study was to determine whether tertiary institutions have started to incorporate green-building programmes and/or modules in current curricula. A literature review on green-building education, not only at academic institutions, but also at property industry educators was done to develop a questionnaire for reflecting the status quo of green-building education programmes at built-environment departments of six South African universities. These departments included quantity surveying and construction management; architecture; quantity surveying, construction management, and urban planning. The intention of this article was not to investigate curriculum renewal/innovation, but merely to examine the status quo of green-building education currently offered by tertiary and professional institutions in South Africa. Based on the findings, green-building education at built-environment departments of academic institutions in South Africa is lagging behind, and progress seems to be slow. There are, however, signs indicating that positive changes are being made to introduce and implement green-building education.
When a lion takes over a pride, the first thing it does is kill off all the existing cubs and sets about propagating its own genes. In a similar way, whenever there is a change of management, at ...whatever level, the new 'lions' set about putting their own stamp on affairs, by casting out the old, whatever this may have been. Some changes may be positive, and some may be long overdue, but is change, for its own sake, necessarily a good thing?

This chapter describes how Jerry explains to Dennis that he would not be able to gain much momentum for the Indirect Purchasing team. It is going to be very difficult to keep them motivated when they ...do not feel the support. Jerry explains how the vendors complain you do not pay them fast enough; the divisions complain you do not pay the vendors fast enough. Jerry further explains that the divisions complain that you charge too much for your services, and that his team is constantly being asked to work harder, faster, and more efficiently, yet when they try to make positive changes, many times the divisions simply refuse to support their initiative. Jerry resigns after being burned out on Shared Services for one thing. He has a hard time being in the middle between the divisions and the vendors and customers and having to constantly defend himself and his team.
It is the purpose of this study to examine the predictors for promotion of positive changes in the motivation for volunteer activities, in the attitude and behavior changes seen as the result of ...social service education and service learning programs. The data used in this study were obtained from participants in social service education and service learning programs. The dependent variables were the participants' positive changes in the motivation for volunteer activities. The independent variables were the changes in the participants' attitude and behavior. The analysis of this study was done by logistic regression analysis. The results were as follows : In this study, three changes of attitude and behavior were found. 1) The participants became angry with the unjust treatment of the socially disadvantaged. 2) The participants became glad with appropriate treatment of the socially disadvantaged. 3) The participants became less focused on superficial characters of the socially disadvantaged. It was suggested from these results that these three changes of attitude and behavior are important to develop and to practice social service education and service learning programs.
i sadržaja. Ovo istraživanje može poslužiti za unapređenje odgojno-obrazovnog procesa te za kvalitetnije planiranje i poticanje postignuća djece s teškoćama u redovnim vrtićkim skupinama.
Determined whether feedback of subordinates' ratings of supervisors leads to positive changes in the supervisors' behavior. The employees of the 56 supervisors in the experimental and control groups ...completed an information-opinion survey using a modified Likert scale format. Feedback reports were given to the experimental supervisors, and a 2nd survey was conducted 10 wks later to measure change. 2 independent measures showed significant positive change for the experimental supervisors.
