The article presents a theoretical and methodological analysis of psychotherapeutic counseling support of the process of personal development of the client. Psychotherapeutic support of the process ...of personal development as a complex integrative and dynamic process is considered. An attempt to substantiate psychotherapeutic counseling is made. Psychotherapeutic counselling is considered for the first time as culturological training providing personal growth of both the client and the counsellor. The relationship between psychological counseling and psychotherapy is considered. The requirements for the personality of the consultant are defined as the main criterion of the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic counseling. The correspondence of psychotherapeutic technology of personal development to the model of a holistic and self-sufficient person is reflected. The significance of the issue of the theory of personality change on the optimization of personal functions of self-development in the context of the integration of psychotherapeutic and counseling practice is emphasized. It is offered to carry out the psychotherapeutic process of development of an integral personality in neuropsychocorrective support, in combination with modern psychotherapeutic methods. Contemporary methods of psychotherapy and psychological counseling for the personal development of the client are reviewed.
Highlights • This is the first review to solely assess posttraumatic growth after burn. • It affects personal strength, reprioritising, spirituality, humanity, relationships, compassion. • It is ...closely linked to coping styles of humour, gratefulness and planning. • Social support is key. • Realistic goal planning is needed, as is recognition of progress by the burn survivor.
This study aimed to identify predictors and perceived facilitators of positive change and posttraumatic growth in persons with a first episode of psychosis using a mixed methods convergent design.
In ...the quantitative component, 94 participants completed measures of posttraumatic growth and predictors of posttraumatic growth. The qualitative component involved in-depth interviews with 12 participants.
Quantitative results revealed that being hospitalized for psychosis, spiritual coping, positive reframing and subjective recovery were significant predictors of posttraumatic growth. Qualitative findings revealed that positive change was perceived to be facilitated by the psychosis itself; receiving mental health services; drawing on personal and social resources and strategies; healing and recovering; a meaning-making and knowledge gaining process; and normative developmental processes.
Posttraumatic growth following a first episode of psychosis may therefore be facilitated by complex person-environment interactions.

Abstract
This systematic review assesses participatory approaches to motivating positive change among health workers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The mistreatment of clients at health ...centres has been extensively documented, causing stress among clients, health complications and even avoidance of health centres altogether. Health workers, too, face challenges, including medicine shortages, task shifting, inadequate training and a lack of managerial support. Solutions are urgently needed to realise global commitments to quality primary healthcare, country ownership and universal health coverage. This review searched 1243 titles and abstracts, of which 32 were extracted for full text review using a published critical assessment tool. Eight papers were retained for final review, all using a single methodology, ‘Health Workers for Change’ (HWFC). The intervention was adapted to diverse geographical and health settings. Nine indicators from the included studies were assessed, eliciting many common findings and documenting an overall positive impact of the HWFC approach. Health workers acknowledged their negative behaviour towards clients, often as a way of coping with their own unmet needs. In most settings they developed action plans to address these issues. Recommendations are made on mainstreaming HWFC into health systems in LMICs and its potential application to alleviating stress and burnout from COVID-19.
Along with the dissemination of technical assistance in nearly every part of life, there has been growing interest in the potential of technology to support well-being and human flourishing. ..."Positive technology" thereby takes the responsible role of a "digital coach," supporting people in achieving personal goals and behavior change. The design of such technology requires knowledge of different disciplines such as psychology, design and human-computer interaction. However, possible synergies are not yet used to full effect, and it needs common frameworks to support a more deliberate design of the "therapeutic interaction" mediated through technology. For positive technology design, positive psychology, and resource oriented approaches appear as particularly promising starting point. Besides a general fit of the basic theoretical conceptions of human change, many elements of established interventions could possibly be transferred to technology design. However, besides the power of focusing on the positive, another psychological aspect to consider are the bitter components inherent to change, such as the confrontation with a negative status quo, threat of self-esteem, and the effort required. The present research discusses the general potential and challenges within positive technology design from an interdisciplinary perspective with theoretical and practical contributions. Based on the bitter-sweet ambivalence of change as present in many psychological approaches of motivation and behavior change, the bitter-sweet continuum serves as a proxy for the mixed emotions and cognitions related to change. An empirical investigation of those factors among 177 users of self-improvement technologies provides initial support for the usefulness of the bitter-sweet perspective in understanding change dynamics. In a next step, the bitter-sweet concept is transformed into different design strategies to support positive change. The present article aims to deepen the discussion about the responsible role of technology as a well-being enhancement tool and to provide a fruitful frame for different disciplines involved in positive technology. Two aspects are highlighted: First, investigating well-being technology as a form of "therapeutic interaction," focusing on the need for sensible design solutions in the emerging dialogue between technology and user. Second, a stronger consideration of the bitter-sweet ambivalence of change, utilizing (positive) psychology interventions to full effect.

In this editorial for WPCC’s special issue on ‘Advertising for the Human Good’ editor Carl Jones outlines a few milestones demonstrating advertising’s potential via mass media for motivating ...progressive behaviours in the public. Matching corporate social responsibility ideals and reflecting the social concerns of millennial consumers and audiences is becoming increasingly important for brands and even governments.Whilst existing publications in academic and professional literature raise concerns over the links between capitalist consumerism and advertising, articles in this issue highlight different examples of practice or approach that have the potential to motivate progressive behaviours in various cultures. These include ambient advertising, neuroscience, brands’ cause donations, decolonisation and social modelling on the one hand, and anti-racism, recycling, sustainable tourism and choice of advertising talent, on the other. This editorial observes how the evolved practice of advertising can work within different ideologies, with the objective of generating advertising for the human good but also how change may need to come from within advertising and society generally as attitudes change over time.
Research on the association between self-reports of post-traumatic growth and well-being show mixed findings. To resolve discrepancies, we suggest that self-reports of post-traumatic growth should ...not be taken at face value as indicating actual growth as in some cases such reports may be indicative of an illusory self-protective mechanism. As such we hypothesised that reports of post-traumatic growth are associated with defense styles. We also tested whether the association between self-reports of post-traumatic growth and well-being would be moderated by defensive styles. In a sample of 153 college students who had experienced some degree of trauma it was found that self-reports of post-traumatic growth were associated with a neurotic and an immature defense style. The association between self-reports of post-traumatic growth and positive as well as negative affect was moderated significantly by a mature defense style, such that for those with high mature defenses, higher scores of self-reports of post-traumatic growth were associated with lower increases in positive, and higher increases in negative, affect. The results suggest that self-reports of post-traumatic growth may sometimes reflect defensive processes rather than actual change.
AbstractThere has been an increase in ethical misconduct among employees of service organizations which has fostered the need for awareness about such ethical practices that may promote employees’ ...constructive behaviors. The current study aims to extend the work on Islamic work ethics by studying its impact on influencing employee voice behavior through the underlying link of employee felt obligation for constructive change. It is proposed that employee sanctification may further serve as a boundary condition and enhance the positive relationship between Islamic work ethics and felt obligation for constructive change. Data (n = 343) felt obligation for constructive change, and both dimensions of voice behavior were collected from employees working in the health sector of Pakistan in three-time lags through questionnaires. Results of the study supported the mediation of felt obligation for constructive change between Islamic work ethics and employee voice behavior. Employee sanctification moderates the relationship between Islamic work ethics and felt obligation for constructive change. The findings of the study provide theoretical and practical implications. Limitations of the research and future directions have also been discussed.

Africans, like people elsewhere in the world, have a set of values which they consider worthwhile and necessary for the preservation and wellbeing of their culture. In this way, it may be said that ...societal values are embodied in and communicated by its system of education and that the education that a society offers its youth reflects the sum total of what is held dear in that society. In many African societies, an important aspect of traditional education is concerned with teaching oral literature using folktales, riddles and proverbs which aim at moulding character and providing children with moral values like honesty, integrity, courage and solidarity. This paper examines the relevance of folktales to the promotion of social values in Africa by demonstrating how folktales can open a window of understanding to a community's social norms, values, thoughts, concepts and ideas with a view to drawing implications for positive change. It is predicated on the assumption that African folktales, with a particular focus on Cameroon, promote social and ethical values, provide human understanding, facilitate the elimination of anti-social behaviour and help with social identity construction. The point is that folktales, as a form of oral literature, draw their material from the realities of society and hence reflect people's values and worldview. As a result, folktales are often used as a vehicle for transmitting and preserving shared values and collective experience. The paper concludes by observing that despite the preponderance of modern means of entertainment in Africa, storytelling persists. Contemporary African folktales are imaginatively refined for the purpose of injecting new meanings, ideas and values, based on society's contemporary experiences and relations.
