On the one hand, expectations of primary school teachers are high. On the other hand, a specific pedagogical professionalism of primary school teachers is doubted again and again. In fact, a ...compilation of requirements and competences that apply specifically to primary school teachers does not yet exist. While in the discourse on professional theory, challenges for and demands on the professionalism of secondary school teachers seem to be discussed and empirically developed, in the discourse on primary school pedagogy, methodological-didactic questions as well as structural framework conditions come into view, without grasping the consequences for the actions of primary school teachers and framing them in terms of professional theory. The aim of this volume is therefore to link the two discourses more closely and to look at the professionalisation of primary school teachers from different perspectives.
For a long time, historical educational research has seen a decline in its representation in university teaching and academic posts. Concurrently, its thematic and methodological variation has ...expanded impressively in the last two decades. This volume, dedicated to Edith Glaser, aims to enrich the legitimacy discourse on the importance and necessity of educational historical expertise from two perspectives. On the one hand, it presents exemplary fields of research in the history of education, on the other hand, contributions show the relevance of historical educational research for other (sub-)disciplines.
Using the example of the multi-perspectival subject of science education, the book shows the basics, conditions for success and didactic concepts of digitization in elementary school. It describes ...the various aspects of digitization in elementary schools and provides a sound basis for political, pedagogical and didactic discourse. The book focuses not only on fundamental theoretical considerations of digital education in science education, but also on selected aspects of individual support with and through digital media, as well as on concrete suggestions for action and implementation options for digitization in science education. In this sense, the book offers suggestions for theory, research and practice.
The assumption social studies and science in primary education to be a key-component in realizing inclusive teaching in primary classrooms for all children but especially for children with emotional ...and behavioral difficulties in special needs education is fundamental to this work. Nevertheless, there is nearly no research-based evidence on how potentials for inclusion and social learning are used in primary schools or special schools nor is there research on how teaching is planned, realized, and accounted for. This desiderate is addressed in this work. By analyzing and thereby linking the discourses in social studies and science in primary education and special education for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties, principles for education and teaching in both domains are summarized. This is the theoretical foundation of a mixed- methods-study with a two-step-design to explore the teaching practices and teachers’ beliefs of teachers in inclusive primary schools and special schools for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties in North Rhine-Westfalia, Germany. The study is composed of a partly standardized questionnaire survey (n= 80) followed by qualitive interviews with teachers as experts (n = 10). Data is consequently triangulated to explore the structure of teaching practices and possible determinants concerning the teachers, framework conditions and the learning groups. The results indicate that life-world-oriented education, disturbed student-teacher-interactions and professional lesson planning between child, method and teaching materials are important issues for the development of inclusive teaching in social studies and science in primary education. Consequently, the study outlines future fields of research and development derived from an explorative view at teaching practices in inclusive and separative education settings.
The Adiwiyata program plays a strategic role in fostering awareness of the declining environmental conditions. This research aims to explore the optimization of student creativity based on the ...Adiwiyata School Program at Elementary School (SDN) 11 Sondakan, Surakarta. The research method used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Interview results were obtained from teachers, students, and the school principal conducted from August to November 2023, observing Adiwiyata program activities, and documenting related Adiwiyata activities. The validity of the data used the source triangulation technique, with an interactive model of data analysis consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the Adiwiyata program at SDN 11 Sondakan has a positive impact, evident in waste management, creative student activities, and school greening. The implications of this research can be used as a model for Adiwiyata implementation to enhance student creativity and environmental awareness in elementary schools

The appeal of probability theory in everyday activities has resulted in its incorporation into the curricula of most countries. However, confusion persists within the international scientific ...community regarding the suitable age for introducing students to probability concepts. Several researchers argue that children at a young age are unable understand the concepts of probability, while other researchers believe that with appropriate teaching interventions, children can comprehend probabilistic concepts. This study aims to address the controversial issue by conducting a study involving two groups of students. In the first group, the researchers provide a short teaching a brief probability teaching session and subsequently ask the children to complete a worksheet related to the topic. In the second group, students complete the worksheet without any prior teaching. The study results show that teaching has a positive effect on the development of students' knowledge and perceptions regarding probabilities. As a consequence, new opportunities and requirements emerge in the field of probability education.

This powerful text encourages both pre-service and established teachers, as well as teacher educators, to engage with contemporary debates in primary education. Promoting a critical approach, the ...chapters explore a wide range of key themes including the importance of values in primary education and the imperative for a curriculum which embraces the whole range of available subjects. At the same time, the chapters are underpinned by a belief that children should be at the heart of all the decisions we make and that primary education should inspire a love of learning, for life.
The book aims to support practitioners to make informed judgements and feel confident to argue their point of view with deeper theoretical knowledge and understanding, thus increasing teacher agency and confidence in responding to complex educational and social dilemmas such as literacy levels and rising mental health concerns. Chapters encompass both the macro aspects of primary education and more specialised debates on key topics such as reading, mathematics, languages, early years education and the use of technology.
With annotated further reading and reflective questions, this key text is essential reading for all those wanting to develop a better understanding of the issues that shape their practice, including student teachers at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, practising teachers engaged in continuing professional development and teacher educators.
After years of work, interrupted by plateaus of political pondering, the 2002 Budget Law (Art. 103) has finally officialized the inclusion of specialist teachers for the subject of Physical ...Education. That is, after the Italian Senate Bill S 992/2020, which mandated the introduction of specialist teachers to guarantee «a real and qualified teaching for children through interventions that are adequate and targeted in terms of motor development, but also to impact learning, prevention, and socialization» (D’Elia, 2022, p. 82).
•Parental, teacher, and peer autonomy support all positively predicted student motivation and engagement.•Above relations were mediated by psychological need satisfaction.•The model showed strong ...invariance across gender.•To target all three social agents in multi-level interventions will optimize student motivation and engagement.
Little research has simultaneously examined the differential effects of autonomy support from parents, teachers, and peers (social agents) on students’ psychological need satisfaction, motivation, and school engagement. Drawing from Self-Determination Theory, this study examined the joint effects of perceived autonomy support from these three social agents on psychological needs, motivation, and engagement of 614 Chinese primary school students. Results revealed that perceived autonomy support from parents, teachers, and peers positively and uniquely predicted student psychological need satisfaction. The effect was strongest for parental autonomy support, although a model constraining the paths from all three social agents to be equal fit equally well. Need satisfaction predicted greater self-determined motivation and student engagement and mediated the effects of all three social agents on student motivation and engagement. The model showed strong gender invariance. The results highlight the importance of targeting all three social agents in multi-level interventions that aim to optimize student motivation and school engagement.
