Information science was a burgeoning field in the early years of
the Cold War, and while public and academic libraries acted as
significant sites for the information boom, it is unsurprising that
...McCarthyism and censorship would shape what they granted readers
access to and acquired. Wild Intelligence traces a
different history of information management, examining the
privately assembled collections of poets and their
knowledge-building practices at midcentury.
Taking up case studies of four poets who began writing during
the 1950s and 1960s, including Charles Olson (1910-1970), Diane di
Prima (1934-2020), Gerrit Lansing (1928-2018), and Audre Lorde
(1934-1992), M. C. Kinniburgh shows that the postwar American
poet's library should not just be understood according to
individual books within their collection but rather as an archival
resource that reveals how poets managed knowledge in a growing era
of information overload. Exploring traditions and systems that had
been overlooked, buried, occulted, or censored, these poets sought
to recover a sense of history and chart a way forward.
This book discusses the largest private book collection of the pre-Ottoman Arabic Middle East for which we have both a paper trail and a surviving corpus of the manuscripts that once sat on its ...shelves: the Ibn ʿAbd al-Hādī Library of Damascus.
...stoletja. Prispevek z ovrednotenjem njene bogate vsebine predstavlja vpogled v bralno kulturo in knjigotrško ponudbo goriškega in širšega slovenskega prostora.
The Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC) announces a no strings attached "genius grant" of up to $10,000 to persons who are advancing the field of historical sound recordings on their ...own time and their own dime. The ARSC Award for Independent Initiatives recognizes individuals who, through their self-directed and self-financed pursuits of knowledge and know-how, have become innovators and experts in the field of historic audio. They are collectors assembling specialized private libraries; inventors developing technologies to better protect and preserve our audio heritage; scholars illuminating recorded sound's technological history and cultural impacts; enthusiasts educating the public about historical recordings. The lessons these individuals can offer the field are potentially significant. Yet too often their innovations and expertise go unrecognized and unutilized.
: To provide a scoping review of the literature by assessing all the English-language papers that investigated the relationship between sleep bruxism (SB) and temporomandibular disorders (TMDs).
: A ...search was performed in the National Library of Medicine (PubMed) and Scopus databases, in order to identify all the articles published assessing the relationship between SB and TMDs, by several different approaches. The selected articles were then structurally read and summarized in PICO tables. The articles were selected independently by the two authors.
: Out of 185 references that were initially retrieved, 47 articles met the inclusion criteria and were thus included in the review. The studies were divided into four categories based on the type of SB assessment: 1. questionnaire/self-report (n = 26), 2. clinical examination (n = 7), 3. electromyography (EMG) (n = 5), and 4. polysomnography (PSG) (n = 9).
: Studies based on questionnaire/self-report SB featured a low specificity for SB assessment, and in general they found a positive association with TMD pain. On the contrary, instrumental studies (i.e., electromyography, polysomnography) found a lower level of association or even a negative relationship between SB and TMD pain. Findings from this updated review confirmed the conclusions of a previous review by Manfredini & Lobbezoo, suggesting that literature findings on the relationship between SB and TMDs are dependent on the assessment strategies that are adopted for SB. Future studies should consider SB as a multifaceted motor behavior that must be evaluated in its continuum spectrum, rather than using a simplified dichotomous approach of presence/absence.
During the seventeenth century, Dutch ministers built libraries and wrote books to fulfill their divine calling to guard the faith as it was entrusted to them and to encourage others in sound ...doctrine.
North Carolina's intellectual pretensions are indeed humble. Nowhere is that more apparent than in the sector of public knowledge. It is observed in the state's overall library development, which ...continues to be halting in character despite the appearance for the last seventy years of that progressive giant, Louis Round Wilson. That was the case a hundred years ago before Wilson. It is the situation now. Unfortunately the Tar Heel claim to humility seems to erode on a scale discomfortingly equal to that of the sands on the state's Outer Banks. From the first recorded instance of a library in North Carolina at Bath in 1709, though there were some private libraries in the state during the eighteenth century, nothing of consequence occurred in the area of book collections until the opening of the University of North Carolina in 1795. The library was intended to form an essential part of the University, but it grew slowly and as late as 1886 the two literary societies, the Dialectic and Philanthropic, had larger collections than the University Library.
The author’s personal library (PL) consists of both print and digital resources. Her personal library also consists of temporary and permanent items. Her PL is also nontraditional in that parts of it are digital content and even streaming content. Overall, her PL is a separated into three main categories: informational, inspirational, and entertainment.
Grant shares about her private library and collections. Since she could remember, her life has been centered around books. She has collected them, lost them, and given some away to others. Reflecting ...on the books that have meant the most to her, her list wouldn't be complete without the coming-of-age book Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret by one of her favorite authors, Judy Blume. There are certain books that she has read over and over. One of them is The Color Purple by Alice Walker. She first read it when she was about thirteen years old. The story is about sadness that turns into determination and triumph. There are many books that she has enjoyed, but the ones in this writing marked various important stages of her life. She hopes that she can pass her love of reading and a good story down to her son.
The gathering and dispersion of private library collections constitute a typical characteristic of ancient Chinese private libraries. Previous researches on this topic have been relatively monolithic ...in methodology and lack comprehensive investigation, making it difficult to accurately address questions regarding the duration and trend changes from aggregation to dispersion in these libraries. In light of this, drawing on theories from demography and historical geography, this paper introduces the concept of "library longevity" to examine the aforementioned issues from a life history perspective. The results indicate that the average lifespan of private library collections during the Qing Dynasty generally exhibited a fluctuating downward trend with significant periodic characteristics. The average lifespan of private library collections was 43. 16 years, with nearly half lasting between 31 and 50 years. Inter-generational inheritance of private library collections posed significant challenges, with 84. 20% o
