"Read-i-cide" n: The systematic killing of the love of reading, often exacerbated by the inane, mind-numbing practices found in schools. Reading is dying in our schools. Educators are familiar with ...many of the factors that have contributed to the decline--poverty, second-language issues, and the ever-expanding choices of electronic entertainment. In this provocative new book, Kelly Gallagher suggests, however, that it is time to recognize a new and significant contributor to the death of reading: our schools. In "Readicide," Kelly argues that American schools are actively (though unwittingly) furthering the decline of reading. Specifically, he contends that the standard instructional practices used in most schools are killing reading by: (1) valuing the development of test-takers over the development of lifelong readers; (2) mandating breadth over depth in instruction; (3) requiring students to read difficult texts without proper instructional support; insisting that students focus solely on academic texts; (4) drowning great books with sticky notes, double-entry journals, and marginalia; (5) ignoring the importance of developing recreational reading; (6) and losing sight of authentic instruction in the shadow of political pressures. Kelly doesn't settle for only identifying the problems. "Readicide" provides teachers, literacy coaches, and administrators with specific steps to reverse the downward spiral in reading--steps that will help prevent the loss of another generation of readers.
Reading promotion is an important means to create a strong reading atmosphere and cultivate good reading habits. With the continuous popularity of new media, the form of reading promotion also needs ...to keep pace with the times and adjust strategies according to the reader's behavior. Based on this phenomenon, this paper analyses the positive and negative effects of new media on reading behavior, summarizes the law of the development of reading behavior, and then puts forward some reading promotion strategies.
Opravili smo analizo vsebine javno dostopnih dokumentov na spletnih straneh in objav na družbenem omrežju Facebook petih slovenskih splošnih knjižnic: Koroška osrednja knjižnica Ravne na Koroškem, Knjižnica Mirana Jarca Novo mesto, Goriška knjižnica Franceta Bevka Nova Gorica, Osrednja knjižnica Srečka Vilharja Koper in Pokrajinska in študijska knjižnica Murska Sobota. Analizirano obdobje zajema obdobje 2015-2022.
Conjured up by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier VT, the Thomas County Public Library Story Walk® was developed to promote reading and exercise in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian ...Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library. Basically, a Story Walk® is a book that has been dismembered, laminated, and spread out page by page on a trail, bike path, or in building windows. The Thomas County Public Library has long been an advocate of offering movement-based programming to its patrons to not only promote learning in an active setting but also to promote and encourage its patrons to explore and find new ways of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. The Story Walk® takes the reader on a leisurely half-mile stroll through the canopy-covered park.
