Shake-table tests of a 3-story reinforced concrete building with cladding casted to be monolithic with frame elements, with seismic slits or cut reinforcing bars present in some cladding elements to ...ensure a desirable deformation mechanism, was performed at E-Defense to evaluate its post-disaster functionality. The building satisfied response objectives; behaving elastically with 0.33% drift or less during a "severe earthquake motion" defined in the Japanese Building Standard Law, and has a base shear capacity coefficient greater than 0.55. However, the damage was greater than expected due to deformations concentrating on a few cracks, resulting in continuous functionality not necessarily being achieved.
El presente artículo propone una metodología para modelar disipadores histeréticosmetálicos tipo TADAS (Triangular Added Damping and Stiffness) en edificaciones depórticos resistentes a momento de ...concreto y acero, que tienen capacidad especial dedisipación de energía. Para este propósito, se utilizó el software SAP 2000 para llevara cabo la modelación y el análisis no lineal estático de plastificación progresiva de lasedificaciones. Durante la investigación, se pudo identificar el comportamiento tipo fusiblede los disipadores, los cuales incursionan en el rango inelástico antes que los elementosestructurales del sistema principal de resistencia sísmica. Además, se observó que lainclusión de estos dispositivos en los pórticos resistentes a momento mejoró la capacidadde las edificaciones ante cargas laterales.
Introducción- El Sistema estructural Pórticos de Concreto Reforzado (PCR) constituye una parte significativa del inventario de edificaciones en zonas sísmicamente activas en el mundo. Muchas de las ...edificaciones construidas antes de la década de los 80’s fueron diseñadas y construidas con poca, o ninguna consideración de cargas sísmicas. Cuando el nudo de concreto reforzado no se ha diseñado competentemente puede convertirse en el eslabón débil del sistemas de PCR. La presencia de nudos sin refuerzo, aun es común en países emergentes localizados en Asia y América Latina. Los nudos tienen un impacto significativo en el comportamiento de PCR. Las metodologías relacionadas con el análisis de nudos de concreto pueden catalogarse como aproximadas, o muy complejas, o de enfoque fenomenológico. Desafortunadamente la mayoría de ellas carece de la simplicidad, estabilidad, y practicidad requerida para evaluar el comportamiento de los nudos en PCR. Este artículo presenta una alternativa analítica aplicable a este tipo de elementos estructurales. Objetivo- El propósito del presente artículo es presentar un método analítico modificado aplicable al análisis no lineal de nudos no reforzados en estructuras de PCR. Metodología- El método presentado se basa en el trabajo analítico y experimental encontrado en 1, el cual es modificado para seguir exactamente la nomenclatura de 2. En el modelo analítico, el nudo es representado a través de: (1) elementos rígidos en cruz para idealizar la geometría del nudo, (2) un resorte rotacional con una curva empírica de comportamiento tetra-lineal localizado en la mitad de los elementos rígidos para representar el comportamiento en cortante del nudo, y (3) las vigas y columnas que llegan al nudos, son modeladas con análisis seccional basado en fibras, con 5 puntos de integración; con la finalidad de incorporar el comportamiento no-lineal de los elementos que llegan al nudo. El modelo propuesto fue implementado en la plataforma OpenSEES y al mismo tiempo se validó con el resultado de 13 ensayos de laboratorio encontrados en la literatura de nudos carentes de acero de refuerzo. Resultados- El modelo propuesto puede capturar adecuadamente la capacidad a cortante del nudo. Al comparar los resultados analíticos con 13 resultados de nudos de concreto encontrados en la literatura, se encontró una diferencia en la capacidad del 2% con una desviación estándar del 11%. En relación al comportamiento del nudo ante carga cíclica se observó que se captura en forma adecuada: la rigidez inicial, resistencia, degradación de la resistencia, rigidez de recarga y capacidad antes y después del pico de resistencia. Conclusiones- El método propuesto presenta una adecuada correlación con los resultados de laboratorio estudiados. La metodología propuesta competentemente captura la capacidad del nudo a cortante, a pesar de las modificaciones incorporadas, sin mencionar las incertidumbres asociadas a los materiales, resultados de laboratorio, y tolerancias. Se espera que el procedimiento presentado en el presente documento contribuya, de una forma práctica, en la incorporación de la flexibilidad del nudo en PCR diseñados primariamente para cargas gravitacionales.
The behaviour of infilled reinforced concrete frames under horizontal load has been widely investigated, both experimentally and numerically. Since experimental tests represent large investments, ...numerical simulations offer an efficient approach for a more comprehensive analysis. When RC frames with masonry infill walls are subjected to horizontal loading, their behaviour is highly non-linear after a certain limit, which makes their analysis quite difficult. The non-linear behaviour results from the complex inelastic material properties of the concrete, infill wall and conditions at the wall-frame interface. In order to investigate this non-linear behaviour in detail, a finite element model using a micro modelling approach is developed, which is able to predict the complex non-linear behaviour resulting from the different materials and their interaction. Concrete and bricks are represented by a non-linear material model, while each reinforcement bar is represented as an individual part installed in the concrete part and behaving elasto-plastically. Each brick is modelled individually and connected taking into account the non-linearity of a brick mortar interface. The same approach is followed using two finite element software packages and the results are compared with the experimental results. The numerical models show a good agreement with the experiments in predicting the overall behaviour, but also very good matching for strength capacity and drift. The results emphasize the quality and the valuable contribution of the numerical models for use in parametric studies, which are needed for the derivation of design recommendations for infilled frame structures. Das Verhalten ausgefachter Stahlbetonrahmen unter Horizontallasten wurde sowohl experimentell als auch numerisch bereits vielfach untersucht. Weil Versuche hohe Kosten verursachen, bieten numerische Simulationen einen effizienten Ansatz fur eine detaillierte Analyse des nichtlinearen Verhaltens. Ausgefachte Stahlbetonrahmen unter Horizontallasten weisen bei Erreichen einer Grenzlast ein stark nichtlineares Verhalten auf, was ihre Analyse erschwert. Das nichtlineare Verhalten ergibt sich aus den nichtlinearen Materialeigenschaften des Stahlbetons und der Ausfachungen sowie aus der Interaktion zwischen Rahmen und Ausfachung. Um dieses nichtlineare Verhalten im Detail zu untersuchen, wurde ein Finite-Elemente-Modell auf Grundlage eines Mikro-Modellierungsansatzes entwickelt. Es ist in der Lage, das komplexe nichtlineare Verhalten infolge der unterschiedlichen Materialien und deren Zusammenspiel vorherzusagen. Stahlbetonrahmen und Mauerwerksausfachung werden durch ein nichtlineares Materialmodell abgebildet, wohingegen die Stabstahlbewehrung des Rahmens mit elasto-plastischem Materialverhalten diskret abgebildet wird. Die Mauersteine sind in dem Modell einzeln erfasst und unter Berucksichtigung der Nichtlinearität der Stein-Mörtel-Kontaktfläche durch spezielle Kontaktelemente miteinander verbunden. Dieser Modellierungsansatz wird in zwei verschiedenen Finite-Elemente-Programmen umgesetzt, deren Berechnungsergebnisse den experimentellen Ergebnissen gegenuber gestellt werden. Insgesamt zeigen die Simulationsergebnisse sowohl hinsichtlich der Tragfähigkeit als auch der Verformungskapazitäten eine gute Übereinstimmung mit den Versuchen. Die Ergebnisse unterstreichen die Qualität und den wichtigen Beitrag der entwickelten numerischen Modelle fur den Einsatz in parametrischen Studien, die zur Ableitung von Konstruktionsempfehlungen fur ausgefachte Rahmenkonstruktionen erforderlich sind.
The realistic modelling of seismically loaded infill masonry is a complicated task due to the complex interaction of the infill with the surrounding frame. Practical approaches, that take into ...consideration the non-linear behaviour of the infill and the frame, are especially lacking at the moment. Within the framework of the European project INSYSME (Innovative Systems for Earthquake Resistant Masonry Enclosures in R.C. Buildings 1), the behaviour of infill masonry in reinforced concrete frames is being investigated experimentally to derive different strategies for the modelling of infill masonry. In addition, systems for the improvement of the seismic behaviour will be developed. In the following, some initial results of the different modelling strategies are presented. Eine realitätsnahe Modellierung von seismisch beanspruchtem Ausfachungsmauerwerk stellt aufgrund des komplexen Interaktionsverhaltens mit dem umgebenden Rahmentragwerk eine Herausforderung dar. Insbesondere fehlen praktische Berechnungsansätze fur eine adäquate Berucksichtigung der Nichtlinearitäten von Ausfachung und Rahmen. Im Rahmen des EU-Projektes INSYSME (Innovative Systems for Earthquake Resistant Masonry Enclosures in R.C. Buildings 1) wird das Verhalten von Ausfachungsmauerwerk in Stahlbetonrahmentragwerken experimentell untersucht, um daraus Modellierungsstrategien abzuleiten. Daruber hinaus werden Techniken zur Verbesserung des seismischen Verhaltens entwickelt. Nachfolgend werden erste Ergebnisse zu den Modellierungsstrategien von Ausfachungsmauerwerk vorgestellt.

When we estimate the structural safety for earthquake motion based on the energy concept, there are many subject to be cleared. The most important subject is how to estimate the energy absorption ...capacity of structures. The authors have presented the quantitative estimation of energy absorption capacity of concrete columns. This is an experimental study to examine the way of evaluating the energy absorption capacity of reinforced concrete frames quantitatively. A set of five reinforced concrete frames were tested under five types of cyclic loading. The results developed in this study is intended to expand for the estimation of seismic safety of reinforced concrete structures.
