The number of trauma victims in Turkey is expected to increase as a consequence of the increasing vehicular traffic, potential for earthquakes, and risk of terrorist attacks. The Turkish Association ...for Trauma and Emergency Surgery monitors trauma cases, publishes a quarterly journal, organizes trauma courses and seminars for various health personnel nationwide. It is also extending efforts to improve in-hospital care by establishing trauma and emergency surgery fellowships and trauma and emergency surgery centers nationwide, which is run by General Surgeons currently. Turkey faces the same dilemma as the rest of the developed world regarding the future of trauma surgeons in the current era of nonoperative trauma management. We suggest that the field of trauma and emergency surgery be redefined to include emergency general surgery and cavitary trauma.
This international book aims to bring to life the mental health dimension of health promotion. It describes the concepts relating to promotion of mental health, the emerging evidence for the ...effectiveness of interventions, and the public health policy and practice implications. The book includes evidence on the relationship between social and cultural factors and the mental health of individuals and communities. It reviews the available evidence from a range of countries and cultures. It documents how actions such as advocacy, policy and project development, legislative and regulatory reform, communications, research and evaluation may be achieved and monitored in countries at all stages of economic development. It considers strategies for continued growth of the evidence base and approaches to determining cost-effectiveness of actions. The book concludes that international cooperation and alliances will play a critical role in generating and applying the evidence by encouraging the social action required and monitoring the impact on mental health of a range of policies and practices. The evidence provided for the health and non-health interventions for mental health benefits is likely to be useful to health policy planners and public health professionals. The emphasis, however, is on the urgent need for a more systematic generation of evidence in the coming years, so that a stronger scientific base for further planning can be developed.
Restriction of the direct admission of all head-injured patients to the neurosurgical unit remains common practice in many parts of the world. This study was conducted to assess if the initial ...neurological examination of patients with a head trauma and their management are adequately performed before the referrals and also to determine whether strict use of guidelines for the management of patients with head injuries can be effective.
The referrals of head-injured patients from different doctors in the emergency department to the same neurosurgeon were assessed prospectively in two separate 6-month periods: the period before training of the non-neurosurgeon physicians on the selection of cases that require a neurosurgical intervention and the period after training.
The first part of study showed that initial neurological examination of patients with a head trauma and their management were not performed correctly by the non-neurosurgeon physicians. However, the second study period showed that non-neurosurgeon physicians performed a more accurate selection of patients requiring a neurosurgical intervention after receiving systematic neurosurgical training for at least 6 months.
In hospitals where there are no specialist trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons should train non-neurosurgeons regarding the accurate selection of neurosurgical cases that need an emergency intervention. In this training, use of guidelines for the management of head injuries is very effective.
In modern e-learning systems student is the key subject that has the most important impact on learning process outcome. Student relationship management is considered as one of the methods for ...improving process of communication between educational institutions and students. Development and ubiquity of ICT foster application of sophisticated tools and services for student relationship management. Further, e-learning systems provide new ways of communication and collaboration with students. The subject of this thesis is development of model for student relationship management in e-education. Main hypothesis that is developed and proved in the dissertation is that implementation of system for student relationship management and integration into a learning management system improve performance of the educational process, provide high degree of collaboration among stakeholders in education and increase student satisfaction and loyalty. System for student relationship management provides plethora of services and tools that enable communication and collaboration among all entities in educational process, promotion of educational institutions and maintaining good relationships with students before and after graduating. Different technologies and platforms are discussed as solutions for development of system for student relationship management: cloud computing, digital identity management, social media, technologies for data analytics and mobile technologies. Software solutions for student relationship management and learning management systems are analyzed. Detailed analysis of scientific researches and results within the area of student relationship management was provided. In the central part of the dissertation, model for student relationship management was defined in details. Further, method for integration of the model and existing learning management system, Moodle. Suggested model included both infrastructure and architecture of the system for student relationship management, model for business processes realization, as well as model for evaluation. In experimental part of the doctoral thesis developed model for student relationship management was used in realization of educational process at Laboratory for e- Business, Faculty of Organizational Sciences. The research results showed that implemented model and its integration with system for e-learning contribute to better collaboration and communication between students and educational institution and increase performances of the educational process. Analysis of results showed that model was flexible, extensible, modular and enabled integration of different services within student relationship management system. The model can be applied as standard system and pattern for improvement of e-education process within higher institutions for higher education in Serbia.
Acute Care Surgery (ACS) is an evolving specialty. The components, as defined by the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma are trauma, surgical critical care and emergency surgery. As ...documented by the recent reports from the Institute of Medicine, the shortage of surgical specialists who make themselves available for emergency care in the United States, the overcrowding of emergency departments and lack of surge capacity are reaching crisis conditions. The Institute of Medicine has recommended the development of regional centers of surgical specialists, analogous to trauma systems. The training of surgeons in ACS will address the manpower issue to some degree.
