Short stories are considered an excellent and highly significant teaching approach in elementary level teaching and learning as they provide a useful and unique learning resource and encourage ...language acquisition, progress and personal interest. This study aims to better understand how primary school pupils see vocabulary development. A mixed-methods study was conducted with thirty sixth graders at SD IT Cahaya Rabbani Kepahiang to gather both quantitative and qualitative data. To collect quantitative data, a questionnaire was employed, and to collect qualitative data, interviews were used. Using SPSS and Excel, the data were descriptively examined. Because short stories are engaging, practical, and simple to grasp, 80% of SD IT Cahaya Rabbani Kepahiang students highly agree and believe that using short story media can help students learn more words in English. The study's conclusions indicate that students are open to using short stories to broaden their vocabulary and find them engaging. Therefore, English teachers should employ short stories to assist students learn vocabulary. The instructor should be mindful of the significance of selecting short stories wisely and doing it in a way that is both engaging and amusing. The selected short stories must also pay attention to the interests, needs, and skills of students. In this study, only a subset of children from the same school participated. Information was only collected once, through questionnaires and interviews. As a result, only students in the same school can use the findings. Additional research should include more people from various institutions to provide more thorough results. Additionally, it is possible to investigate the effectiveness of using short stories to help students expand their vocabulary by using different research methodologies like experimental or action research.Keywords: Students’ perception; short story; vocabulary

Written in Gaul in late 7th century by an unknown author, Visio Baronti presents the journey to the afterlife of a monk’s soul from the perspective of what happens with the soul right after exiting ...the body. A founding text of the medieval literary (sub)genre visiones animarum, the work has been analysed not only from this perspective, but also as a narrative meant to sort out – from the standpoint of Christian doctrine – the “geography” of the afterlife and the theological beliefs of the period. My intention is to analyse the way in which the author of the text represents particular judgment – which, according to Christian teachings, occurs right after the separation of the soul from the body – and to identify a series of connections between this narrative and its possible sources pertaining to Latin or Greek patristic writings.
The purpose of the study was to develop a PQ4R learning strategy for learning to write short stories for junior high school students in Jakarta. The method used R and D through the ADDIE model. Data ...were taken using observation, learning to write results and questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out through expert and peer assessment. The results of the study concluded that in the sixth step, discussion activities were added to discuss the results of short story writing and the peer assessment process. This strategy also had a positive impact on writing enthusiasm, increasing reading comprehension through reading activities in the third step. Students were also able to collaborate in developing short story writing. So, this research had implications for understanding the development of learning strategies that must be designed according to the character and needs of students and the learning objectives to be achieved. This model can be used in short story writing in class.
Předložená studie se zabývá prozaickým dílem Růženy Svobodové z přelomu století. Romány Zamotaná vlákna (1899), Milenky (1902) a sbírku povídek Pěšinkami srdce (1902) nahlíží jako estetické jevy, ...jejichž prostřednictvím je možné do určité míry re/konstruovat dobovou literární rozpravu, její tendence a proměny. Výkladem těchto románů a povídek na pozadí poznatků o autorčině raném díle, jakož i srovnáním jejich časopiseckých a knižních verzí usilujeme o podchycení nových obsahových i tvárných rysů, které jsou v podstatě projevem pohybů v literárním poli. Abychom těmto proměnám co nejlépe porozuměli, zasazujeme je do širších společensko-kulturních souvislostí, jak je reflektovala dobová literární kritika. Domníváme se, že konfrontací próz Růženy Svobodové s recenzemi, kritickými statěmi, ale i díly dalších prozaiků je možné získat podklad k formulaci obecnějších závěrů, platných pro modernistickou prózu jako takovou.
The Power of Patriarchy in The Short Story Collection of Perempuan Patah Hati yang Kembali Menemukan Cinta Melalui Mimpi by Eka KurniawanThis study aims to describe and explain the power of ...patriarchy, as well as the resistance of women in the collection of short stories Perempuan Patah Hati yang Kembali Menemukan Cinta Melalui Mimpi by Eka Kurniawan. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with feminist literary criticism as the approach used to obtain the desired data. The data source is a collection of short stories Perempuan Patah Hati yang Kembali Menemukan Cinta Melalui Mimpi by Eka Kurniawan. The data are in the form of a number of quotations that reflect the problems in the research. The results of the study indicate that there are nine short stories in the collection that displays patriarchal power and women's resistance. The patriarchal power displayed is in the form of patriarchal power in the domestic and public spheres which are manifested in the form of gender injustice in the form of subordination, marginalization, stereotypes, and violence against women. As for the resistance to patriarchal power, there are only four short stories in the collection. The resistance to patriarchal power is displayed by the female characters in those short stories.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan kuasa patriarki serta perlawanan perempuan yang ada dalam kumpulan cerpen Perempuan Patah Hati yang Kembali Menemukan Cinta Melalui Mimpi karya Eka Kurniawan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan kritik sastra feminisme. Sumber data penelitian ini ialah kumpulan cerpen Perempuan Patah Hati yang Kembali Menemukan Cinta Melalui Mimpi karya Eka Kurniawan. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa sejumlah kutipan dalam kumpulan cerpen yang mencerminkan permasalahan penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat sembilan cerpen yang menampilkan kuasa patriarki dan perlawanan perempuan. Kuasa patriarki yang ditampilkan berupa kuasa patriarki dalam ranah domestik dan publik yang terejawantahkan dalam bentuk ketidakadilan gender yang berupa subordinasi, marginalisasi, stereotip, dan kekerasan terhadap perempuan. Adapun perlawanan terhadap kuasa patriarki hanya terdapat dalam empat cerpen. Perlawanan terhadap kuasa patriarki ditampilkan oleh para tokoh perempuan yang ada dalam keempat cerpen tersebut.

This study deals with previously unknown manuscripts that the authors have identified and reassembled in an as yet unorganized section of the Jakub Deml fonds in the Museum of Czech Literature (PNP) ...Literary Archive. These manuscripts, fragments and variants of some seventy books and dozens of unpublished texts make a significant contribution to our understanding of the genetics and meaning of the work as a whole. They alter our idea of its genre composition, clarify information on the origin, authorship, co-authorship and addressees of the texts and testify to the complex, non-linear chronology of the work. The authors identify three periods in which Deml’s manuscripts have different functions: the first period involves manuscripts and to a limited extent publishing (1896-1911); the second period independent publishing (1912-1941); the third period is the second manuscript period (1941-1961), when manuscripts became the main medium. Subsequently the study comments on the possibilities of a critical edition of the entire work. It compares the approach of the samizdat Works of Jakub Deml and Collected Writings, touches upon the limits of the second edition brought about by the omission of a substantial part of the author's personal papers and proposes a solution in the form of a digital edition.
Literary psychology is a type of literary theory that is related to the human psyche. Through literary psychology we can understand the psychology or personality of the characters in a story. This ...research is aim to analyse the personality structure of the main character, Sum, in the short story Tart di Bulan Hujan by Bakdi Soemanto using Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. This research uses qualitative descriptive method and literary psychology approach, Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis, to analyse the personality structure of the Id, Ego, and Superego of the main character, Sum, in the short story Tart di Bulan Hujan. The results of this study indicates that the main character, Sum, in her personality shows the three personality structures of Id, Ego, and Superego. Sum’s Id is clearly visible from her strong desire to be able to buy a tart in the rainy month. Then the Ego personality helps the Id to get all its desires in a way that is acceptable in the real world, namely by collecting money by saving and working hard to buy the tart. Meanwhile, Sum’s Superego makes her put aside the Ego and Id. These three-personality structure control the behaviour and actions of Sum in making decisions.
