El presente artículo se propone explorar, a través de un análisis textual detallado, algunos de los temas recurrentes del universo simbólico de Combray, donde Proust condensa lo fundamental de su ...concepción estética y epistemológica del mundo. En particular, las vidrieras de la iglesia de Saint-Hilaire y su encaje en forma de descripción en este primer capítulo resultan además representativas de las estrategias literarias proustianas, que suponen la superación del realismo clásico en favor de un simbolismo de marcado carácter metaliterario. El análisis planteado persigue, pues, elucidar cómo operan esos símbolos arquitecturales en la construcción literaria que es la Recherche.
En los últimos años, y de la mano de los historiadores de las mentalidades, el análisis de la muerte se ha convertido en objetivo prioritario de unos estudios centrados en el hecho en sí de la ...destrucción física del hombre, en el sentido que la muerte tiene en el mundo cristiano, la subjetivación del discurso eclesiástico del bien morir que el individuo opera, y los fenómenos que acompañan a su extinción, Y ello vía una metodología que se centra en el análisis del testamento como un documento básicamente formulario, limitándose el investigador a la enunciación de esas fórmulas y a su glosa. No obstante, se ha obviado una aproximación de singular importancia, el análisis de la instrumentalización que los grupos dirigentes hicieron de la muerte no sólo con el fin de reconducir la contestación social a ese modelo de dominación hacia un discurso del sometimiento inconsciente al mismo; sino también de integrar y cohesionar al propio linaje y a la misma clase nobiliaria. En fin, el análisis del hecho de la muerte como un mecanismo más de preservación del modelo social existente. Siguiendo esta línea, analizaremos la muerte como una sucesión coherente de actos ritualizados y dirigidos a garantizar la reproducción social, interna y externa, del poder en el seno del estamento privilegiado del Antiguo Régimen. A tal fin, nos acercaremos a estos actos de integración del linaje y de control social y legitimación del poder, promovidos en la casa de Mendoza con ocasión del fallecimiento de los duques del Infantado.
The aim of the article is to explore the motif of the garden in Spanish turn-of-the-century literature. Approaching an analysis of poems by Juan Ramón Jiménez or Antonio and Manuel Machado in ...relation to Spanish modernist texts in prose, one may detect certain bipolarity in the treatment of the analysed motif: opposite the symbolic and artistic garden emerges a garden of irony which systematically tends to question the components of the symbolic diction. The article suggests a possibility of using the category of modernist irony proposed here for all the Spanish modernist movement.
El artículo se propone examinar el motivo del jardín en las letras finiseculares españolas. Al acudir a un análisis de poemas de Juan Ramón Jiménez, Antonio y Manuel Machado, puestos en relación con textos en prosa del modernismo hispánico, se llega a detectar una bipolaridad en el tratamiento del motivo analizado: frente al jardín simbolista y artístico se erige un jardín irónico, que sistemáticamente tiende a poner en duda los componentes de la dicción simbolista. El artículo sugiere la posibilidad de aplicar la categoría de ironía modernista aquí propuesta a todo el movimiento modernista hispánico.

Este artículo examina la poesía de la escritora mexicana Laura Méndez de Cuenca (1853-1928) con el propósito de delimitar su poética, un ejercicio que no se ha emprendido en su recepción crítica. Se ...propone un análisis a partir de las publicaciones originales de su poesía en los periódicos de la época, comparando aquella con las ediciones modernas, para evaluar su recepción y revisar los elementos retóricos que configuran lo que llamo una poética. Es importante notar que estas páginas son el primer intento de rastrear el estilo literario, la principal contribución e innovaciones a la poesía canónica de una de las poetisas más importantes de su tiempo.
This article examines the poetry of the Mexican writer Laura Méndez de Cuenca (1853-1928) with the purpose of delimiting her poetics, an exercise which has not been undertaken in her critical reception. It proposes an analysis that takes into account the original publications of her poetry in the periodical press of her time, comparing them with the modern editions in order to evaluate her reception and revise the rhetorical elements that configure what I call her poetics. It is important to note that these pages are the first attempt to grasp the literary style, main contribution and innovations to canonical poetry of one of the most important poets of her time.
In May 1899, the town of Como inaugurated an universal exhibition organized for the centenary of the invention of the battery by Alessandro Volta. The exhibition, set up in honour and celebration of ...an illustrious citizen of Como, was not focused on electricity alone, but also on decorative arts and the silk and furniture industry, including a special section of artistic objects from the territories of the Diocese of Como curated by Santo Monti, author a few years later of a pioneering study on the arts in Northwestern Lombardy. The operation resonated with national and international press: a congress of electricians was presented at the exhibition, anticipating the famous international symposium of physics that would be held in Como in 1927 with the participation of, among others, Fermi, Marconi and many Nobel prizes in a changed political and cultural context. The exhibition halls, designed by engineer Eugenio Linati, occupied much of the area then destined to become a public garden, on which the first museum dedicated to Volta’s work, the Tempio Voltiano, was founded in 1928. The exhibition architectures were characterized by a magniloquent style in a fusion of classical, allegorical, eclectic elements, in order to provide a valuable framework for the public rituals of the inauguration in presence of King Umberto I and Queen Margherita. Mostly destroyed by a fire, from which the hall of Belle Arti survived, the exhibition buildings were quickly reconstructed and reassembled. This paper explores the multiple aspects of the great exhibition, from the architecture of buildings to the media propaganda (posters, periodicals, etc.) and investigates the connection between the promotion of historical and artistic studies on the territory, the heritage preservation, the decorative and industrial arts ranging from the eclectic style to Art Nouveau.
