Mati, Josipina Ličan se je dvakrat poročila. ...Prvič s Francem Valenčičem in drugič s Francem Kranjcem. Iz te družine izhajata Franc Valenčič pesnik in Ferdinand Kranjec narodnjak in vodja slovenske Orjune. (Organizacija jugoslovanskih nacionalistov.)Z Ivanom Cankarjem in Dragotinom Kettejem sta bila, kot srednješolca člana literarne zadruge. Cankar je zelo cenil Frana Valenčiča in njegov pesniški talent. In je bil zelo prizadet, ko je Valenčič že v drugem letu svetovne vojne leta 1916 padel na koti Gorupa Kupa 144 m pri Doberdobu. Omenja ga v svojem literarnem delu Kmečke slike. Fran Valenčič se je izkazal z obsežno zbirko pesmi, ki jih je zbrala in objavila njegova nečakinja slovensko makedonska pesnica Bistrica Kranjec Mirkulovska iz Skopja. Kot 24 letni mladenič je prevedel libreto Rossinije opere Viljem Tell. Opero so nekajkrat uprizorili že leta 1902 na odru ljubljanske operne hiše in je doživela ugodne literarne kritike.Po letu 1905 ni več objavljal pesmi. Preselil se je v Gorico nadaljeval študij prava, ki ga ni končal.Valenčičeva nečakinja Bistrica Kranjec je po raznih literarnih časopisih zbrala njegove pesmi, ki čakajo objavo. Iz Valenčičeve skromne zapuščine je ohranjenih le malo pisem, z enim samim njegovim podpisom in zadnjo neuresničeno željo, da bi se nekako sposodil »100 kron« in si kolikor toliko uredil življenje v času«, ko je čakal, da ga pokličejo na fronto. Žal ne vemo, če je to dočakal. Pesnik Fran Valenčič žal tudi nima spominskega obeležja ne na bojnem polju, kjer je padel, ne na rojstni hiši, kjer danes domuje matična knjižnica v Ilirski Bistrici in ne na spominski plošči padlih domačinov v prvi vojni .
