This article explores the relations between music and «ritual food» among the different people which inhabit the Huasteca region, which is located in the east of Mexico. This inquiry is based on ...three main questions: 1) The sacred origin of food and music, which shows the ways in which gods gave men gifts; 2) The men’s obligation for restoring them, and 3) The relations that these gifts establish between food and music practices. This article emphasizes the exchange of gifts linked to the music and food that are prescribed in the Chicomexochitl myth, the niño-maíz, and the rituals that are dedicated to him. By mentioning some mythic passages, this paper argues that both, food and music have a nutritional energy that is necessary for welfare and happiness of women and men. This helps to explain the constant musicians’ presence in these kind of rituals. Finally, this paper insists on sound and smell dimensions in the study of Huasteca’s culture.

Mainly the acoustic reduction they produce. The method used for measuring this parameter is the one described in the European standard EN 1793-2, in which a lone parameter, DLR, is defined to assign four different levels of isolation. This method presumes that the element under study produces acoustic reduction in all the hearable frequencies analyzed. However, acoustic barriers based on sonic crystals have been put under study in recent years. These barriers s main characteristic is that, for some frequencies, they do not produce any acoustic isolation. Our goal is to adapt the measurement method for those cases in which a near-zero acoustic reduction is found, and so, obtaining a coherent R level. In this project we will propose a modification of the current method and test its proper performance through computerized simulations and its subsequent processing.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. The dissertation deals with the study of the scattering and acoustics parameters, in a small room using the simulation technique of Finite Differences in Time Domain. The study is made in three different conditions: the first one is with flat walls, the second one with the walls covered with Sonic Crystal Sound Diffusers y the third one with the walls covered with optimized Sonic Crystal Sound Diffusers. The sound and scattering parameters are studied not only mathematically through the impulse response of the room, but also with inquiry to a different professional musicians to know if they feel the difference between the three room configurations, hearing how an small musical piece interpreted by a bassoon would sound if the room were constructed.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. In this master’s thesis a simulation work will be carried out in order to evaluate the acoustic behaviour of a new generation of acoustical barriers. These noise barriers are composed of sonic crystals (SC), designed for controlling railway noise during its transmission. SC are heterogenic media consisting of a periodic net of acoustic scatterers immersed in a fluid, which in our case would be air, to reduce propagation of acoustic waves. The objective is to maximise the spectral attenuation to attenuate the following frequency range: 500 Hz 2000 Hz; since that is where most of the railway noise is located. Therefore, in this regard, a superposition model will be used where two 2D models results in a 3D model. To analyse with detail each of the noise control mechanisms separately, 2 two-dimensional models were used. On one hand, the plane model where the effects of the Band Gaps (BG), resonances and absorption will be studied; on the other hand, the vertical model in which the diffraction effect will be analysed by the upper edge of a periodic 2D array formed by finite rigid cylinders. In this study, the design of acoustic barriers based on sonic crystals will be carried out through simulations using the finite element method (FEM) implemented in Comsol Multiphysics software v4.4a.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication.
