I begin with two books about the cosmos. The first one is Olaf Almqvist's Chaos, Cosmos and Creation in Early Greek Theogonies. This monograph skilfully combines approaches from classical studies, ...anthropology, and philosophy to offer an in-depth analysis of three competing cosmologies: Hesiod's Theogony, the Orphic theogony, and the creation myth in Plato's Protagoras. It also explores the repercussions of these tensions on ritual life. The book introduces it all through a lucid and enjoyable analysis of the opening lines of Pindar's Nemean Six, which the author sees as stressing the ontological tensions present in early Greek creation myths and blurring the lines between myth and philosophy.
The COVID-19 outbreak has posed an unprecedented challenge to humanity and science. On the one side, public and private incentives have been put in place to promptly allocate resources toward ...research areas strictly related to the COVID-19 emergency. However, research in many fields not directly related to the pandemic has been displaced. In this paper, we assess the impact of COVID-19 on world scientific production in the life sciences and find indications that the usage of medical subject headings (MeSH) has changed following the outbreak. We estimate through a difference-in-differences approach the impact of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic on scientific production using the PubMed database (3.6 Million research papers). We find that COVID-19-related MeSH terms have experienced a 6.5 fold increase in output on average, while publications on unrelated MeSH terms dropped by 10 to 12%. The publication weighted impact has an even more pronounced negative effect (-16% to -19%). Moreover, COVID-19 has displaced clinical trial publications (-24%) and diverted grants from research areas not closely related to COVID-19. Note that since COVID-19 publications may have been fast-tracked, the sudden surge in COVID-19 publications might be driven by editorial policy.

This study aims to reveal women desires for freedom (without any menace), but she reproduces of male power restraints as it is represented in the drama script of Harold Pinter’s The Room. This ...research uses Žižek’s critical thinking framework regarding ideology, subject and practice. The approach used in this research is ground theory, the data used are quotations in the script, and the data source is the play script Harold Pinter’s The Room. With interpretation analysis techniques, this research reveals that the great ideals of women’s freedom are fantasmatic. Women’s freedom is an ideological fantasy. This play script reflects women’s freedom but instead explains the reality that they are shackled by patriarchal discourse. Harol Pinter seems to assert male power through the definition of women’s freedom through Rose in The Room. Therefore, the result shows that postmodernist, whose perspective is opposed to hierarchal system, is still trapped in patriarchal perspective AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap hasrat perempuan akan kebebasan (tanpa ancaman), namun ia justru mereproduksi pengekangan kekuasaan laki-laki seperti yang ada dalam naskah drama The Room karya Harold Pinter. Penelitian ini menggunakan kerangka berpikir kritis Žižek tentang ideologi, subjek dan tindakan. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah grounded theory, data yang digunakan adalah kutipan dalam naskah, dan sumber datanya adalah naskah drama The Room karya Harold Pinter. Dengan Teknik analisis interpretasi, penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa cita-cita agung kebebasan perempuan bersifat fantasmatik. Kebebasan perempuan adalah fantasi ideologis. Teks drama ini merefleksikan Kebebasan perempuan tetapi justru menjelaskan realitas bahwa ia terbelenggu oleh wacana patriarkis. Harold Pinter menegaskan kuasa laki-laki melalui definisi kebebasan perempuan melalaui Rose dalam The Room. We researched the occurrence of breast cancer among transsexual persons 18–80 years with an exposure to cross-sex hormones between 5 to >30 years. Our study included 2,307 male-to-female (MtF) transsexual persons undergoing androgen deprivation and estrogen administration (52,370 person-years of exposure), and 795 female-to-male (FtM) subjects receiving testosterone (15,974 total years of exposure).
Among MtF individuals one case was encountered, as well as a probable but not proven second case. The estimated rate of 4.1 per 100,000 person-years (95% confidence interval CI: 0.8–13.0) was lower than expected if these two cases are regarded as female breast cancer, but within expectations if viewed as male breast cancer. In FtM subjects, who were younger and had shorter exposure to cross-sex hormones compared with the MtF group, one breast cancer case occurred. This translated into a rate of 5.9 per 100,000 person-years (95% CI: 0.5–27.4), again lower than expected for female breast cancer but within expected norms for male breast cancer.
The number of people studied and duration of hormone exposure are limited but it would appear that cross-sex hormone administration does not increase the risk of breast cancer development, in either MtF or FtM transsexual individuals. Breast carcinoma incidences in both groups are comparable to male breast cancers. In this article we explore the issues that surround within-subject and between-subject designs. We describe experiments in economics and in psychology that make comparisons using either of these designs (or both) that sometimes yield the same results and sometimes do not. The overall goal is to establish a framework for understanding which critical questions need to be asked about such experimental studies, what authors of such studies can do to ameliorate fears of confoundedness, and which scenarios are particularly susceptible to divergent results from the two approaches. Overall, we find that both designs have their merits, and the choice of designs should be carefully considered in the context of the question being studied and in terms of the practical implementation of the research study.
