There has been a proliferation in the use of the concept of prefiguration to describe and understand many of the protest and social change movements of the past decade. However, there are key aspects ...of the concept that remain unexplored. In this paper I consider telos and justice, and unveil a temporal paradox arising from the thinking behind prefiguration. Rather than this temporal paradox of prefiguration being the undoing of the concept, it does in fact have the potential to be its strength. The purpose of this paper is to assert, by drawing on Derrida’s notion of the impossibility of justice, that the temporal paradox of prefiguration is not something to be resolved but instead is to be foregrounded and navigated. I use research from a food sovereignty collective in the north of Spain to offer an illustration of a prefigurative economic politics that embraces Derrida’s justice‐as‐an‐impossibility.
An Essay on Desire, ...Practical Reasoning and Narrative (2016). A Study in Moral Theory (1981), Whose Justice, Which Rationality? (1988) y Three Rival Versions of Moral Enquiry. Enciclopaedia, Genealogy and Tradition (1990).
Objective: Due to the increase in natural disasters and its impact on the information production process, designing and development of sustainable information systems to facilitate information flow ...has become particularly important. Besides, feasibility studies of technological solutions presented in natural disaster information management (NDIM) are quantitatively and qualitatively poor. The present study aims to design a feasibility assessment framework (FAF) for assessing the feasibility of creating an open-access repository, (OAR) as a socio-technical system, in the context of natural disaster information management (NDIM-OAR) in Iran. Methodology: A Self-administered questionnaire (SAQ) was validated from the key components of an OAR with the proposed FAF dimensions adopted from TELOS, (Technological, Economic, Legal, Operational, Scheduling,) validated by the experts in the fields of information and technology management and natural disasters. The fuzzy Delphi method employed to analyze the data. Findings: The final FAF including Technological, Economic, Legal, Operational, Scheduling, Cultural and Behavioral (TELOS-CB) crossed with the 44 indicators of creating an NDIM-OAR (including 7 categories as collection provision,, information organization, storage and retrieval, security, application, stakeholder 's participation, and management) was validated and approved by experts of the field. Originality: The first proposed feasibility framework for creating an NDIM-OAR in Iran, through a systematically context-based design and validation. The developed framework, TELOS-CB, has been also proposed to the international research community in the field of information management and technology (NDIM/IT) as one of the dedicated tools for feasibility studies, as a reference framework to be employed, validated and adapted to similar contexts with considering adaptability rules.
An increase in coronal laxity is recognized as a risk factor for progression of knee osteoarthritis (OA). The purpose of this study was to evaluate coronal laxity, which was defined as the angular ...motion from the neutral, unloaded (baseline) position to the loaded position, in patients with advanced medial knee OA.
Preoperative coronal laxity was assessed using radiographs in patients with medial knee OA undergoing total knee arthroplasty by applying a force of 150 N with an arthrometer. A consecutive series of 211 knees with OA and 40 normal control knees were examined. A knee with OA was defined as clinically “balanced” when the difference between medial and lateral laxity was 3° or less. Values are expressed as median 25th, 75th percentile.
The laxity was 4° 3, 5 from the baseline on the medial side and 3° 2, 4 on the lateral side. The distribution of medial and lateral laxity indicated that 90% (189/211) of patients fell within 3°. The equivalence test showed that the medial and lateral laxity was similar, with an equivalence margin of 3° (P < 0.001). In the control knees, the laxity was 3° 2, 4 from the baseline on the medial side and 2° 2, 4 on the lateral side. The differences between the knees with advanced OA and the controls were significant (P = 0.005, medial; P = 0.006, lateral).
This study showed that a clinically balanced knee was maintained even in patients with advanced medial knee OA.
Background:
Reference to an intrinsic healing mechanism or an ‘inner healer’ is commonplace amongst psychedelic drug-using cultures. The ‘inner healer’ refers to the belief that psychedelic ...compounds, plants or concoctions have an intrinsically regenerative action on the mind and brain, analogous to intrinsic healing mechanisms within the physical body, for example, after sickness or injury.
Aims:
Here, we sought to test and critique this idea by devising a single subjective rating item pertaining to perceived ‘inner healing’ effects.
Methods:
The item was issued to 59 patients after a single high (25 mg, n = 30) or ‘placebo’ (1 mg, n = 29) dose of psilocybin in a double-blind randomised controlled trial of psilocybin for depression.
Results:
Inner healer scores were higher after the high versus placebo dose of psilocybin (t = 3.88, p < 0.001). Within the high-dose sub-sample only, inner healer scores predicted improved depressive symptomatology at 2 weeks post-dosing.
Conclusions:
The principle of activating inner healing mechanisms via psychedelics is scientifically nascent; however, this study takes a positivist and pragmatic step forward, asking whether it warrants further examination.

The present article offers a trenchant criticism of the imaginative geographies of 'Europe' using a Pred inspired methodology. The essay strikes at the mythos of Europa as the vanguard of humanity, ...and enumerates many of the 'dirty tricks' that project the singular as confirmation of the universal. It aligns with the critique of the present in the manner of Allan Pred's critical takes on Europe and deconstruction of the mythos of Europe. With Nietzsche's takes on 'philosophical laughter' as a cue, the essay offers playful parodies on the narcissistic discourses of Europe's historical mission or purpose, its essence/identity, and its place in history. My critique is thus an instance of postcolonial laughter. Critique of historicism and 'European reason' are recurrent themes in Pred's work. Historicism places European humanity as history's prime (favourite) subject, culminating in the infamous yet pompous 'end of history' thesis popularized by Fukuyama, of which Pred was highly critical of. In my reading, Pred's playful takes on Fukuyama's folly, are inspired by postcolonial laughter. Postcolonial laughter is deployed here as an affirmative response to the European negation of the other's being. I use by turn satire and irony, by turn parody and the grotesque to strike at the heart of the mythos of Europe and its 'dirty tricks'. Postcolonial laughter unsettles the hubris and narcissism underlying discourses of Europe's mission/moralism as the vanguard of humanity. Postcolonial laughter is attuned to Pred's 'restless geographies'.

Although creating sustainable information systems is highly important to facilitate information flow in natural disaster information management (NDIM), only a few LIS studies have focused on ...evaluating the feasibility of related technological solutions. An open access repository (OAR) for NDIM has been assessed by Technical, Economic, Legal, Operational, Scheduling, Cultural, and Behavioral (TELOS-CB) dimensions, using the PSI technique. Five NDIM stakeholder groups participated including governmental, public, and research institutions, NGOs (non-governmental organizations), and LIS specialists. The results indicate that the NDIM-OAR is technically more feasible, while the cultural dimension has been considered the most challenging. NGOs have the largest scoring range and governmental stakeholders have the most coherent scoring. Despite of the wide range and seemingly excessive sensitivity of NDM information in Iran, more in-depth, interpretive, cross-disciplinary studies are required reaching a comprehensive decision for an NDIM-OAR. The research is among the first multi-disaster, multi-stakeholder feasibility analyses in LIS.
•A new framework was used to evaluate the feasibility of a natural disaster information management (NDIM) repository.•The Preference Selection Index (PSI) technique was used to analyze stakeholders' insights about each feasibility dimension.•Evaluation suggested that the cultural dimension would cause the most challenges in developing an NDIM repository.•Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) appeared to have the most conflicting views.
