Certain IoT (Internet of Things) device data such as meteorological data are public goods, which are by definition, in high demand by a large user base. Accessibility to these datasets thrives with ...the use of blockchain technology. However, research has shown that due to the consensus mechanism of existing blockchain platforms, transaction approval delays and high transaction (gas) fees have been a challenge. This paper presents a software tool to integrate and store IoT device data onto a resource-efficient blockchain, with a decentralized proof of stake consensus mechanism, for faster and scalable application, with zero to near-zero transaction fees.
•Some small Internet of Things (IoT) data like temperature, pressure, and humidity weather data can be stored on a blockchain.•Node-RED is a tool used by millions of users from large companies like IBM to small hobbyists.•The eosio-push node is custom built to take in IoT and transmit to a blockchain.•It can be run on raspberry pi.•It allows for customization of endpoints and message types.•The software is publicly available on NPM and receives between 10 and 50 downloads per week.
Paul’s address to the ekklesia in Philippi evidences an ideological conflict within the community. The letter encourages the community to persevere in a prescribed philosophy while simultaneously ...recognizing the presence of “opponents” (Phil 1:28) and “enemies” (Phil 3:18) against whom the community must “stand firm” (Phil 4:1). Building on Pierre Hadot’s work in identifying ancient philosophy as a “way of life”, this article examines the nature of this ideological conflict by reading Philippians in light of the conventions of ancient philosophical dialogue. While the letter does not take the strict literary structure of a formal dialogue, it can rightly be understood as a philosophical text that is engaging in a critical conversation about competing philosophical “ways of life”. In this philosophical dialogue, Paul critiques the alternative way of life on offer to the Philippian ekklesia by portraying it as an insufficient way of life that will lead to destruction. He simultaneously presents his own philosophy as the one that is consistent with the appropriate “goal,” the right “mind,” and a consistent “way of life” that will help the community attain their ultimate telos.
This commentary critically engages Denise Ferreira da Silva’s claim that Marxism is incapable of critically engaging the racial and capital alongside one another. It argues that, while it is true ...that conventional Marxists have either dismissed, undertheorized, or treated enslaved and colonial labor as ancillary to capitalist development – so-called “primitive accumulation” – rendering non-Europeans, non-proletarian laborers (and especially women of African descent) as outside the universal category of the Human, this is not necessarily representative of either Marx or Marxism. Reading Unpayable Debt alongside recent work by Lisa Lowe, Beverley Mullings, Saidiya Hartman, Nick Nesbitt, and Gary Wilder, I suggest a revisit of Marx’s and Marxist’s analysis of slavery, colonialism, and capitalism is necessary – and particularly the much-neglected work of Walter Rodney – in order to probe the constitutive dynamics of race, class, and gender as a constituent part and critique of capitalism and the struggle for human freedom.
While the older scholarship modified the last sentence of our text by logical reasons, the reinforced textual conservatism of the last decades led to full confidence in the text handed down in the ...Florentina, so they tried to solve contradictions by interpretation. The following remarks try to confirm this confidence as unjustified. Based on thoughts on the meaning of praetextatus and materfamilias in the sense of the commented edict ‘de adtemptata pudicitia’ and its telos to punish the degredation of the victim’s honour (contumelia), the first two sentences give indeed a coherent explanation of the edict’s scope. The last one however contains based on today’s prevailing interpretations neither something new nor any conclusion, but only a summary. If we assume instead – as indicated by the Eastern Roman tradition – a partial dittography in the Florentina and apply the original acceptation of
as behaviour, the last sentence explains the edict only to require appropriate behaviour and not appropriate dress.

The process modeling challenge provides an opportunity to compare various approaches to multi-level conceptual modeling. In particular, the challenge requests the definition of constructs for ...designing process models plus the facilities to create process models with these constructs, and to analyze the execution of such processes, all in one multi-level model. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of DeepTelos in solving the challenge. DeepTelos is an extension of the Telos modeling language that adds a small number of rules and constraints to the Telos axioms in order to facilitate multi-level modeling by means of so-called most-general instances, a variant of the powertype pattern. We present the technology behind DeepTelos and address the individual tasks of the process modeling challenge. A critical review discusses strengths and weaknesses exposed by the solution to the challenge.
This article traces a stylistic history of verse–prechorus–chorus form from its inception in mid-1960s rock ’n’ roll through the EDM-infused pop of the 2010s. The central argument is that across its ...various presentations, verse–prechorus–chorus form is based on a consistent teleological structure, which I term the telos principle . I chronicle this form’s history through three style periods: I begin with the 1960s through ’80s, over which time verse–prechorus–chorus went from a novel offshoot of standard verse–chorus form to a dominant formal layout. Next, I look at how the form developed between 1991 and 2010, when texture, timbre, and voice increasingly overshadowed harmony as the primary drivers of formal motion. Finally, I consider the 2010s, which saw the strongest efforts toward subverting traditional pop and rock formal processes, especially surrounding the chorus’s central formal status. Throughout the discussion, I demonstrate how the telos principle can guide expressive interpretations of these formal subversions. In tracing verse–prechorus–chorus form’s historical lineage, this article connects the harmonically oriented theories of ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s rock, such as ".fn_cite($Nobile_2020)." and ".fn_cite($Heetderks_2020).", with recent work on post-2010 EDM-infused pop, such as ".fn_cite($Peres_2016).", ".fn_cite($Barna_2020).", ".fn_cite($Adams_2019).", and ".fn_cite($Osborn_2023).". In so doing, the article reconsiders recent formal innovations not as a rejection of prior paradigms but as new developments within an ongoing thread that remain in dialogue with popular music’s stylistic history.

The purpose of this study is to compare the accuracy of the GNRB arthrometer (Genourob), Lachman test, and Telos device (GmbH) in acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and to evaluate the ...accuracy of each diagnostic tool according to the length of time from injury to examination.
From September 2015 to September 2016, 40 cases of complete ACL rupture were reviewed. We divided the time from injury to examination into three periods of 10 days each and analyzed the diagnostic tools according to the time frame.
An analysis of the area under the curve (AUC) of a receiver operating characteristic curve showed that all diagnostic tools were fairly informative. The GNRB showed a higher AUC than other diagnostic tools. In 10 cases assessed within 10 days after injury, the GNRB showed statistically significant side-to-side difference in laxity (p<0.001), whereas the Telos test and Lachman test did not show significantly different laxity (p=0.541 and p=0.413, respectively).
All diagnostic values of the GNRB were better than other diagnostic tools in acute ACL injuries. The GNRB was more effective in acute ACL injuries examined within 10 days of injury. The GNRB arthrometer can be a useful diagnostic tool for acute ACL injuries.

This essay concerns the disputed nature of the telos in Stoicism and argues that Michel Foucault’s description of the Stoic telos plausibly constitutes an accurate characterization, despite the ...frequent criticism it has received and the fact that it apparently neglects the important role of nature or physics in Stoicism. To advance this claim, the essay draws upon a neglected set of observations made by Foucault in The Hermeneutics of the Subject, in which the telos is characterized in terms of the elimination of stultitia, or “indecision.” Once we analyze indecision and its causes from the perspective of physics, we can see that indecision is incompatible with the Stoic telos as standardly described, for example as “life in accord with nature.” It can be concluded that the Foucault’s view is not only plausible but is in fact supported by Stoic physics. The essay concludes with a discussion of some possible objections.
Early in 2022 the first pig to human cardiac xenotransplant was performed. The graft initially performed well, and rejection was well controlled. However, the graft failed, and the patient died 60 ...days after the procedure. The ethical issues relating to xenotransplantation include the risk/benefit to the individual, the risk of porcine-derived infectious agents crossing into humans, animal welfare and rights, issues of human and animal identity and concerns relating to fair allocation of organs and appropriate use of resources.
These ethical issues are often addressed using emotional arguments, or through consequentialist or deontological lens. An alternative is to use approaches based on virtue ethics to understand the moral purpose (telos) of the research and the virtues (character traits) needed to be a good research clinician. In this review we will consider the virtues of justice, courage, temperance and practical wisdom, as well as the role of clinical curiosity, and their application to xenotransplantation. This provides an alternative approach for the clinical academic and others involved in the research to reflect on their practice.
In this article, we aim to explain how Miroslav Volf’s theology of flourishing provides a new vision for psychologists. As the Henry B. Wright Professor and Founder and Director of the Yale Center ...for Faith and Culture, Volf is recognized as one of the most influential living theologians. His recent work offers a theology of human flourishing based in an eschatological vision of God’s homecoming, the unification of the Creator with His created. For Volf, the end provides a telos, a purpose, and direction, for current human life. He asserts that although proleptic, flourishing occurs simultaneously within the two eschatological “already” and “not yet” realities through the inbreaking of the Holy Spirit in the context of love. The true life is a life led well, going well, and feeling as God intends and is characterized by love, peace, and joy. In this article, we summarize Volf’s theology of the homecoming of God and human flourishing and bridge the disciplines of theology and psychology, by discussing how the psychology of thriving toward the telos of the Reciprocating Self provides a heuristic for psychologists. The heuristic offers psychologists a guide for research and clinical work that is aligned with Volf’s eschatological vision.
