► Various land management strategies available for urban transformation projects. ► Dutch experience: dangers to public land development. ► Dangers for American cities to make use of public land ...development.
For many decades cities in the Netherlands have made extensive use of public land development as a strategic tool for pro-active planning. This paper investigates the Dutch experience to explore its utility both in the Netherlands and in the U.S. We build upon an earlier study by Lefcoe (1977) with similar purposes. His conclusion was that American cities should be cautious in the use of this approach. This paper comes to the same conclusion, but does so taking into account the present institutional contexts and market circumstances both in the Netherlands and the U.S. It is argued that only under very specific circumstances does it make sense for municipalities to act as land developers. Furthermore, the Dutch experience with public land development since the 1990s demonstrates the many dangers there can be to this land development strategy.
Chaperonin containing tailless complex polypeptide 1 (CCT) is a molecular chaperone consisting of eight distinct protein subunits, that when oligomeric is essential for the folding of newly ...synthesized tubulin and actin. In addition to folding, CCT activity includes functions of individual subunits in their monomeric form. For example, when CCTS monomer levels are increased in cultured mammalian cells, numerous cell surface protrusions are formed from retraction fibres, indicating that an underlying function for the CCTS monomer exists. Here, using a yeast two-hybrid screen we identify the dynactin complex component p150Glued as a binding partner for CCT8 and show by siRNA depletion that this interaction is required for the formation of CCT8-induced cell surface protrusions. Intact microtubules are necessary for the formation of the protrusions, consistent with microtubule minus end transport driving the retraction fibre formation and depletion of either p150Glued or the dynactin complex-associated transmembrane protein dynAP prevents the previously observed localization of GFP-CCT8 to the plasma membrane. Wound healing assays reveal that CCTS monomer levels influence directional cell migration and together our observations demonstrate that in addition to the folding activity of CCT in its oligomer form, a monomeric subunit is associated with events that involve the assembled cytoskeleton.

Mark Potok is an American journalist, activist and academic, specializing in the study of the radical right and violent movements. The interview was carried out through a series of e-mails in the ...summer of 2021. The main objective of this publication is to disseminate the personal interpretations of one of the most recognizable progressive figures in the American media landscape. At present, there is a boom in intolerant ideas and organized violence inside and outside the digital context, which seems not to have reached its culmination yet. The different sections of the interview try to shed light on key issues such as social polarization, political mythology, social networks, traditional journalism and violent intolerance.

Abstract Technological developments greatly make it easy for users, including in matters of financial technology (FinTech), which has also led to the innovation of Equity Crowdfunding (ECF). ECF is a ...new financing method seeking funding for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs/UMKM) business development. In some developed countries such as the United States of America (US), the ECF has a systematic regulation of the disclosure principle. These rules are intended to protect the process of organising the ECF legally and professionally. In Indonesia, the ECF has just developed and has undergone two regulatory changes, from Financial Services Authority Regulations (POJK) No. 37 2018 to POJK No. 57 of 2020. The regulation of the disclosure principle in Indonesia is still not clear enough compared to the US based on Title III The Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Acts 2012. Thus, this study will explain the comparison between the two countries which is Indonesia and the US, regarding the regulation of the disclosure principle in ECF on the basis law, supervisory institutions, prospectus/ Bidding Documents, the minimum amount of fund. No. 37 2018 menjadi POJK No. 57 tahun 2020. Pengaturan prinsip keterbukaan di Indonesia masih belum cukup jelas dibandingkan dengan Amerika Serikat yang berdasarkan Title III The Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Acts 2012.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected almost all countries and territories. As of December 6, 2020, the United States of America and India have the highest prevalence. Each ...country has implemented different strategies to control and reduce the spread of disease. Here, the association between prevalence number and health policies is evaluated by comparing 2 groups of countries: (1) Italy, the United States of America, Germany, Spain, and India with a higher prevalence than a linear trend line; and (2) Singapore and China with a lower or equal prevalence than linear forecasts. A rapid overview revealed that many countries have similar strategies for controlling COVID-19, including the suspension of air travel, the lockdown on the cities with the most cases detected, active case findings, monitoring of close contacts, and raising public awareness. Also, they used a gradual and phased plan to reopen activities. So, the difference between countries in the burden of COVID-19 can be attributable to the strict mode and nonstrict mode of implementation of strategies. Limitations at the national levels call for systemic rather than regional strategies.
In the final years of the Clinton administration (1994-2001) and, most notably, during the War on Terror (GcT), United States of America (USA) and Africa relations were intensified. As it symbolizes ...a certain counterpoint to the historical distance, at least in international relations, between USA and African countries, this proximity leads us to the following question: did the presence of the United States represent, or not, a break with the marginal condition of the African continent in Washington's interests? Based on this issue, the article proposes to understand the Africa in the foreign policy of the United States between 2001 and 2020, and to defend the hypothesis that there was no such break. Firstly, during the Bush (2001-2009) and Obama (2009-2017) administrations, the predominance of security-oriented initiatives indicated the continuity of the USA in including Africa to its systemic interests, and does not necessarily reflect the changing status of this continent in U.S. foreign policy. Second, because disinterest in Africa was prevalent throughout the Trump administration (2017-2021). In methodological terms, the article will be developed from a bibliographic review, composed of books, articles, academic journals, official documents, reports, among other sources considered relevant to the theme.
Transformative learning in medical education has been adapted in developed countries like UK and USA,and has achieved confirmed effects, such as medical students'attitude of learning and professional ...values acknowledgement during clinical management of diseases and patients, perception of medicine service in undeveloped areas and continues quality improvement of healthcare services. It is suggested that China may adapt the concept of transformative learning in medical education, pay special attention to the cultivation of medical students' competencies in critical thinking,systems-based practice, and appropriately introduce disorienting environment to challeng and stimulate studens'learning in order to optimize teaching effects.
Over the past decades, there have been several amendments to the US and Canada's immigration and refugee policies, as well as major developments across the disciplines of international migration and ...refugee law. This study tackles the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA) between the US and Canada, which effectively entered into force in the year 2004. The study examines the trajectory of this agreement, the debates and arguments that surrounded it during its early stages, as well as how these debates have evolved alongside developing forced migration realities since the STCA's implementation. It looks into whether or not these developments challenge the STCA, render it ineffective, and consequently put US-Canadian relations into question. It addresses international mechanisms, local realities and bilateral factors, which contribute to the refugee/migration debate between the two states - namely the 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol. It aims to determine the extent to which the international refugee crisis, the Trump Administration, and developments in international law have affected the status of the STCA and subsequently, the relationship between the US and Canada.
