Early detection of nutritional problems is a vital skill for individuals as it enables timely prevention before any symptoms arise. This skill can be fostered through enhancing knowledge, practicing ...skills via educational activities and mentoring, and seeking support from peers who share similar challenges. This study aims to investigate the impact of peer tutoring on the development of a balanced menu and healthy snack consumption based on fish and vegetables among 11th-grade female students at a state high school in Singosari, Malang Regency. This study examined the effect of these interventions on the intake of energy, protein, and iron among the participants. Data were gathered by collecting food consumption data using the 24-hour food recall method and measurement of weight, height, Hb, and Albumin levels. The study employed a purposive sampling technique by conducting pretest, intervention, and post-test. The results showed significant improvements in the health indicators of the participants, including knowledge, intake, Hb, and Albumin levels (p=0.000; α=0.005). These findings demonstrate the potential of education and mentoring through peer tutoring in promoting healthy eating habits and preventing nutrition-related problems among female adolescents.
The facilitation of learning by tutors is a worldwide phenomenon that is supported by most open and distance learning (ODL) institutions. It is a strategy employed to achieve academic success. This ...qualitative intrinsic case study explored the views of tutors at the University of South Africa (Unisa) about the implementation of the Integrated Tutor Model (ITM) which supports student learning. The successes, challenges and impact of the ITM on the tutors’ delivery of tutorials are not fully known. Therefore, the findings of this study will highlight the successes, challenges and impact of the ITM which Unisa can use to improve the model. Data were gathered through face-to-face interviews with six tutors who were purposively selected from Unisa’s Gauteng region. The findings revealed successes and challenges of the ITM that affect the support that is due to the students via tutorage. These findings explain the application of the ITM that can assist Unisa in strengthening or reviewing both the tutor system and the model.
Tutors play an important role in higher education, as they may facilitate learning, promote engagement, and assist with student success. Students also often feel more comfortable seeking assistance ...from them than from lecturers. Yet, tutors tend to be sidelined in the literature on teaching and learning, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. The paper is framed by an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IFA) approach and seeks to understand how three tutors in an online academic literacy module experienced the shift to online learning. Data, in the form of personal reflections, were collected online and analysed thematically. It was found that the tutors experienced the shift negatively and they raised practical concerns, as well as interpersonal ones. Implications for tutor training are discussed.

Prior research has established that peer tutors can benefit academically from their tutoring experiences. However, although tutor learning has been observed across diverse settings, the magnitude of ...these gains is often underwhelming. In this review, the authors consider how analyses of tutors' actual behaviors may help to account for variation in learning outcomes and how typical tutoring behaviors may create or undermine opportunities for learning. The authors examine two tutoring activities that are commonly hypothesized to support tutor learning: explaining and questioning. These activities are hypothesized to support peer tutors' learning via reflective knowledge-building, which includes self-monitoring of comprehension, integration of new and prior knowledge, and elaboration and construction of knowledge. The review supports these hypotheses but also finds that peer tutors tend to exhibit a pervasive knowledge-telling bias. Peer tutors, even when trained, focus more on delivering knowledge rather than developing it. As a result, the true potential for tutor learning may rarely be achieved. The review concludes by offering recommendations for how future research can utilize tutoring process data to understand how tutors learn and perhaps develop new training methods.
Research shows promising results of educational robots in language and STEM tasks. In language, more research is available, occasionally in view of individual differences in pupils’ educational ...ability levels, and learning seems to improve with more expressive robot behaviors. In STEM, variations in robots’ behaviors have been examined with inconclusive results and never while systematically investigating how differences in educational abilities match with different robot behaviors. We applied an autonomously tutoring robot (without tablet, partly WOz) in a 2 × 2 experiment of social vs. neutral behavior in above-average vs. below-average schoolchildren (N = 86; age 8–10 years) while rehearsing the multiplication tables on a one-to-one basis. The standard school test showed that on average, pupils significantly improved their performance even after 3 occasions of 5-min exercises. Beyond-average pupils profited most from a robot tutor, whereas those below average in multiplication benefited more from a robot that showed neutral rather than more social behavior.
•One-to-one robot tutoring benefits learning the multiplication tables.•We suggest to differentiate robot tutoring, according to the level of advancement.•A more social robot is not always the better teacher.•We discuss that robot-teacher partnerships may shape the future of pedagogy.
Based on a theoretical study of information available in the world and domestic science and his own pedagogical experience, the author characterises the tutoring of social development of primary ...school pupils in private schools as an innovative socio-pedagogical technology. The elitist status of pupils’ parents in private secondary schools, their requirements to the specifics of their children's socialisation, force private schools to organise tutoring of social growth, which can be considered a process of significant quantitative and qualitative changes in social life. The article considers social development as a dual process, in the context of socialisation and individualisation. The author emphasizes that the primary school age is sensitive to the process of social development because in this period, the child takes an active place in various social relations, where his / her "I" is equivalent to others, which develops a new stage of self-awareness in society, social responsibility . It is confirmed that tutoring accompanies the child to enter the sphere of social life, culture; it contributes to the creation of value orientations, child's lifestyle, and his / her own social experience. It is established that tutoring of social development of junior schoolchildren is based on 3 main approaches: compensatory, educational-perspective and integration- and person-oriented. The tutor of the primary level of a private educational institution in the course of tutoring social development performs the roles of a social mentor, a personal growth tracker, a mediator, an education and development manager. The author identifies psycho- and socio-diagnostic, practice-oriented methods, methods of problem-based learning, methods of analysis and self-analysis, methods of organising independent work by the main methods aimed at tutoring social development of junior schoolchildren. It is generalised that the tutoring of junior schoolchildren’s social development has 5 main stages: diagnostic, motivational, cognitive-axiological, activity-based and behavioural, reflexive-corrective.
