With a supinated forearm, although it was difficult to perform the tying movement ...with the right palm facing the back, this could be performed without pain. A difference was found in the shoulder extension movement when comparing the tying movements of the medial and supinated positions of the forearm. As a result of treatment focusing on the range of motion of right shoulder joint extension, the practical use of the tying movement in the supinated position of the forearm increased.

The new Spanish educational law establishes the importance of cross-curricular learning in secondary education, pointing out the possibility of organizing subjects by fields, with the aim of ...guaranteeing the integral development of all competencies. Nowadays there are only a few, fully detailed, cross-curricular learning proposals, that can be developed in different subjects adopting a transversal approach. Physical Education and Physics and Chemistry are the subjects chosen for the interdisciplinary work developed in this work. Physical Education will focus on outdoor recreational activities, specifically knot-tying and ropes courses, allowing the development of community services related to security measures. These activities will serve as a link between the two areas, as the Physics and Chemistry lessons will focus on the basic concepts of forces and pulleys. All of the above will allow the students to formulate hypothesis and to demonstrate, through scientific experimentation, the scientific thinking. Therefore, the main aim is to develop an interdisciplinary work in which a competency-based learning is implemented, where the knowledge acquired in the knot-tying Physical Education lessons may be useful to achieve a better understanding of the basics of forces and pulleys learned in Physics and Chemistry.
En la nueva ley educativa se establece con claridad la importancia de llevar a cabo un trabajo interdisciplinar en la etapa de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, indicando la posibilidad de organizar las diferentes materias en ámbitos, con el objetivo de garantizar el desarrollo integrado de todas las competencias de la etapa desde un enfoque transversal. No es sencillo encontrar propuestas que relacionen diferentes materias desde un enfoque transversal e interdisciplinar, que detallen el trabajo a desarrollar y, además, puedan llegar a integrarse en un ámbito de varias materias. En el presente artículo, se relacionan las materias de Educación Física y Física y Química. En la primera, se trabajarán actividades en el medio natural, en concreto el franqueamiento de obstáculos y la cabuyería, posibilitando el desarrollo cooperativo de acciones de servicio a la comunidad en la que se apliquen medidas de seguridad. Por otra parte, en Física y Química se plantea un trabajo de fuerzas y poleas que servirá de nexo de unión con el realizado en Educación Física, y que permitirá al alumnado formular hipótesis y demostrar, a través de la experimentación científica, los razonamientos del pensamiento científico. Por lo tanto, el principal objetivo del presente artículo es desarrollar una propuesta de trabajo interdisciplinar donde el aprendizaje adquirido y vivenciado en las clases de cabuyería en Educación Física ayude al alumnado a comprender mejor los saberes básicos relacionados con las fuerzas y las poleas en Física y Química, llevando a cabo un aprendizaje competencial.

Significance Ideal fluids have a conserved quantity—helicity—which measures the degree to which a fluid flow is knotted and tangled. In real fluids (even superfluids), vortex reconnection events ...disentangle linked and knotted vortices, jeopardizing helicity conservation. By generating vortex trefoil knots and linked rings in water and simulated superfluids, we observe that helicity is remarkably conserved despite reconnections: vortex knots untie and links disconnect, but in the process they create helix-like coils with the same total helicity. This result establishes helicity as a fundamental building block, like energy or momentum, for understanding the behavior of complex knotted structures in physical fields, including plasmas, superfluids, and turbulent flows.
The conjecture that helicity (or knottedness) is a fundamental conserved quantity has a rich history in fluid mechanics, but the nature of this conservation in the presence of dissipation has proven difficult to resolve. Making use of recent advances, we create vortex knots and links in viscous fluids and simulated superfluids and track their geometry through topology-changing reconnections. We find that the reassociation of vortex lines through a reconnection enables the transfer of helicity from links and knots to helical coils. This process is remarkably efficient, owing to the antiparallel orientation spontaneously adopted by the reconnecting vortices. Using a new method for quantifying the spatial helicity spectrum, we find that the reconnection process can be viewed as transferring helicity between scales, rather than dissipating it. We also infer the presence of geometric deformations that convert helical coils into even smaller scale twist, where it may ultimately be dissipated. Our results suggest that helicity conservation plays an important role in fluids and related fields, even in the presence of dissipation.

The robustness of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is an important ongoing research topic in the civil engineering community. Especially in the last decades, the need for structural robustness assessment methods has become urgent, and several design methods have been proposed in codes and guidelines to mitigate the progressive collapse risk of reinforced concrete structures. The most used approaches are the Tying Force and Alternate Load Path methods. The first is typically applied as an indirect and prescriptive method where the building is considered mechanically tied together and able to enhance continuity and the resistance to progressive collapse. The second is a direct method, where the capacity of the structure to sustain the applied loads is evaluated after the loss of a load-bearing element, most effectively using advanced nonlinear structural analysis methods. In the context of the Tying Force method, the Eurocode is recognised to underestimate the tie force demands required by building structures subject to the loss of a load bearing member, which are better reflected in the USA UFC Guidelines. A new Tying Force method has been proposed by Izzuddin & Sio (2021) for the next generation of the Eurocodes, which addresses the shortcomings of the present Eurocode guidance, and provides a more comprehensive treatment than considered in the UFC code. The present paper is aimed specifically at the validation of the new Simplified Tying Force method (Izzuddin & Sio, 2021) for reinforced concrete structures, considering grillage and combined beam/slab floor systems, and considering the rotational ductility of such structures, which is explicitly considered in the new method.

In the construction industry, the construction process of rebar tying is highly dependent on manual operation, which leads to a wide range of work areas, high labor intensity, and limited efficiency. ...Therefore, robot technology for automatic rebar tying has become an inevitable trend in on-site construction. This study aims to develop a planar rebar-tying robot that can achieve autonomous navigation, precise positioning, and efficient tying on a plane rebar mesh without boundaries. Our research covers the overall design of the robot control systems, the selection of key hardware, the development of software platforms, and the optimization of core algorithms. Specifically, to address the technical challenges of accurately recognizing the tying position and status, we propose an innovative two-stage identification method that combines a depth camera and an industrial camera to obtain image information about the area to be tied. The effectiveness of the planar rebar-tying robot system, including the recognition method proposed in this study, was verified by experiments on a rebar mesh demonstration platform. The following application of our robot system in the field of the Shenyang Hunnan Science and Technology City Phase IV project achieved satisfactory performance. It is shown that this research has made a unique and significant innovation in the field of automatic rebar tying.
To realize a higher-level autonomy of surgical knot tying in minimally invasive surgery (MIS), automated suture grasping, which bridges the suture stitching and looping procedures, is an important ...yet challenging task needs to be achieved. This paper presents a holistic framework with image-guided and automation techniques to robotize this operation even under complex environments. The whole task is initialized by suture segmentation, in which we propose a novel semi-supervised learning architecture featured with a suture-aware loss to pertinently learn its slender information using both annotated and unannotated data. With successful segmentation in stereo-camera, we develop a Sampling-based Sliding Pairing (SSP) algorithm to online optimize the suture's 3D shape. By jointly studying the robotic configuration and the suture's spatial characteristics, a target function is introduced to find the optimal grasping pose of the surgical tool with Remote Center of Motion (RCM) constraints. To compensate for inherent errors and practical uncertainties, a unified grasping strategy with a novel vision-based mechanism is introduced to autonomously accomplish this grasping task. Our framework is extensively evaluated from learning-based segmentation, 3D reconstruction, and image-guided grasping on the da Vinci Research Kit (dVRK) platform, where we achieve high performances and successful rates in perceptions and robotic manipulations. These results prove the feasibility of our approach in automating the suture grasping task, and this work fills the gap between automated surgical stitching and looping, stepping towards a higher-level of task autonomy in surgical knot tying. Note to Practitioners-This paper aims to automate the suture grasping task in surgical knot tying by leveraging stereo visual guidance. To effectively robotize this procedure, it requires multidisciplinary knowledge to achieve suture segmentation, 3D shape reconstruction, and reliable automated grasping, while there are no existing works tackling this procedure especially using robots with RCM kinematics constraints and under complex environments. In this article, we propose a learning-driven method along with a 3D shape optimizer, which can conduct the suture segmentation and output its accurate spatial coordinates, serving as guidance for automated grasping operation. Apart from this, we introduce a unified function to optimize the grasping pose, and a vision-based grasping strategy is also proposed to intelligently complete this task. The experiments extensively validate the feasibility of our framework for automated suture grasp, and its successful completion can serve as a basis for the following looping manipulation, hence filling a step gap in robot-assisted knot tying. This framework can be also encapsulated into the medical robotic system, and by simply indicating (e.g. mouse click) the rough position of the suture's tip in one camera frame, the overall framework can be initialized and further accomplish the suture grasping task, which further prompts a full autonomy of surgical knot tying in the near future.
