Self-regulated learning (SRL) is an important factor in online learning and is defined as the process of actively managing one’s own learning process to achieve a desired outcome. However, many ...issues remain unsolved about how to improve cognitive strategies and self-regulation in online learning environments where teachers are not physically present. As a result, this study aims to explore the effectiveness of a web-based virtual laboratory on enhanced students’ SRL. A quasi-experimental pre-/post-test with a control group design was employed involving 40 female students aged 14-15 years old. While the students in the experimental group carried out the practical activities using a specially developed web-based virtual laboratory, the students in the control group used a physical laboratory. The results obtained indicated that the virtual laboratory significantly enhanced metacognitive self-regulation, effort regulation, peer learning, and overall SRL more than the physical laboratory. These findings could be attributed to how students learn using the virtual laboratory. For instance, students can navigate the virtual lab website at their own pace at anytime and anywhere.
Laboratory experimentation plays an essential role in engineering and scientific education. Virtual and remote labs reduce the costs associated with conventional hands-on labs due to their required ...equipment, space, and maintenance staff. Furthermore, they provide additional benefits such as supporting distance learning, improving lab accessibility to handicapped people, and increasing safety for dangerous experimentation. This paper analyzes the literature on virtual and remote labs from its beginnings to 2015, identifying the most influential publications, the most researched topics, and how the interest in those topics has evolved along the way. To do so, bibliographical data gathered from ISI Web of Science, Scopus and GRC2014 have been examined using two prominent bibliometric approaches: science mapping and performance analysis.

Within education, concepts such as distance learning, and open universities, are now becoming more widely used for teaching and learning. However, due to the nature of the subject domain, the ...teaching of Science, Technology, and Engineering are still relatively behind when using new technological approaches (particularly for online distance learning). The reason for this discrepancy lies in the fact that these fields often require laboratory exercises to provide effective skill acquisition and hands-on experience. Often it is difficult to make these laboratories accessible for online access. Either the real lab needs to be enabled for remote access or it needs to be replicated as a fully software-based virtual lab. We argue for the latter concept since it offers some advantages over remotely controlled real labs, which will be elaborated further in this paper.
We are now seeing new emerging technologies that can overcome some of the potential difficulties in this area. These include: computer graphics, augmented reality, computational dynamics, and virtual worlds. This paper summarizes the state of the art in virtual laboratories and virtual worlds in the fields of science, technology, and engineering. The main research activity in these fields is discussed but special emphasis is put on the field of robotics due to the maturity of this area within the virtual-education community. This is not a coincidence; starting from its widely multidisciplinary character, robotics is a perfect example where all the other fields of engineering and physics can contribute. Thus, the use of virtual labs for other scientific and non-robotic engineering uses can be seen to share many of the same learning processes. This can include supporting the introduction of new concepts as part of learning about science and technology, and introducing more general engineering knowledge, through to supporting more constructive (and collaborative) education and training activities in a more complex engineering topic such as robotics. The objective of this paper is to outline this problem space in more detail and to create a valuable source of information that can help to define the starting position for future research.

The limitation of laboratory facilities in conducting practical chemistry learning activities has become one of the triggers for less optimal learning processes. Implementation of virtual laboratory ...simulation becomes a solution to overcome the limited equipment of practicum activities. It is possible to overcome some of the challenges that are currently being experienced in chemistry education by making effective use of virtual laboratories. The primary aim of this research is to investigate the impact of virtual laboratories and self-efficacy on the improvement of problem-solving skills among engineering students in the context of applied chemistry education. The research employs a quasi-experimental design to examine the impact of independent variables on dependent variables. Participants in this study are students enrolled in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering and Utility Engineering Technology programs within the Mechanical Engineering Department of Bali State Polytechnic. The study utilized data collection instruments consisting of tests assessing problem-solving skills and questionnaires measuring self-efficacy. The current study employs analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) as a statistical method to examine the hypothesis.The hypothesis testing results show that using virtual laboratories has a better effect than problem-solving skill demonstrations when it comes to electroplating learning activities. The observed correlation between self-efficacy and improved problem-solving skills does not seem to result in a significant impact.
The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using a virtual laboratory. This research was carried out at SMAN 1 and MAN 1 Kolaka for 3 (three) months. The type of research is ...quantitative with an experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research population was students of class The instrument is a test of students' science process skills. Data analysis techniques were carried out descriptively and inferentially. The research results reported that there was an increase in student learning outcomes and a positive impact on the science process skills of students at SMAN 1 Kolaka and MAN 1 Kolaka after implementing a PhET-based virtual laboratory. Thus, the application of the Science-Physics learning model through a PhET-based virtual laboratory is effective in improving the science process skills of students at SMAN 1 Kolaka and MAN 1 Kolaka. This research gives the impression that laboratory use is not actually the only equipment used to carry out experiments. However, laboratories have developed so that students and teachers can carry out experiments through virtual laboratories at affordable costs.
Penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan yang berfokus pada pengkajian konten Virtual Laboratory berbasis Augmented Reality (Vilbar) untuk mendukung pelaksanaan praktikum. Metode pengembangan ...yang digunakan adalah model ADDIE yang terdiri dari lima tahapan: analisis, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, terlihat bahwa hasil validator menunjukkan bahwa nilai validasinya yakni 3,85 interval (3,5 < X < 4) ini menandakan bahwa keseluruhan perangkat yang divalidasi berada pada kategori “sangat valid”. Vilbar yang dikembangkan ini dapat memudahkan proses pelaksanaan prakikum sehingga dapat dikatakan memiliki nilai kepraktisan dengan total nilai kepraktisan yang diperoleh 3,6, dan dapat meningkatkan keterampilan pratikum mahasiswa sehingga dapat dikatakan memiliki nilai keefektifan yang dapat dilihat dari hasil portofolio (laporan ) belajar mahasiswa diperoleh nilai rata-rata portofolio hasil praktikum mahasiswa sangat tinggi yaitu sebesar 90. Vilbar telah terbukti efektif dalam mengatasi tantangan dalam praktikum kimia di Universitas Muslim Maros, termasuk keterbatasan ruang, alat, dan bahan praktikum. Vilbar tidak hanya memungkinkan simulasi praktikum kimia yang realistis, tetapi juga meningkatkan antusiasme dan keterampilan praktikum mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa integrasi teknologi dalam pendidikan, seperti penggunaan Vilbar, dapat meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran dan membantu mahasiswa memahami materi dengan lebih baik. Kesimpulannya, Vilbar merupakan inovasi penting dalam pendidikan kimia yang mendukung pembelajaran interaktif dan mandiri, serta mempersiapkan mahasiswa untuk menghadapi dunia kerja secara profesional dengan keterampilan yang relevan.
Understanding the collective dynamics of crowd movements during stressful emergency situations is central to reducing the risk of deadly crowd disasters. Yet, their systematic experimental study ...remains a challenging open problem due to ethical and methodological constraints. In this paper, we demonstrate the viability of shared three-dimensional virtual environments as an experimental platform for conducting crowd experiments with real people. In particular, we show that crowds of real human subjects moving and interacting in an immersive three-dimensional virtual environment exhibit typical patterns of real crowds as observed in real-life crowded situations. These include the manifestation of social conventions and the emergence of self-organized patterns during egress scenarios. High-stress evacuation experiments conducted in this virtual environment reveal movements characterized by mass herding and dangerous overcrowding as they occur in crowd disasters. We describe the behavioural mechanisms at play under such extreme conditions and identify critical zones where overcrowding may occur. Furthermore, we show that herding spontaneously emerges from a density effect without the need to assume an increase of the individual tendency to imitate peers. Our experiments reveal the promise of immersive virtual environments as an ethical, cost-efficient, yet accurate platform for exploring crowd behaviour in high-risk situations with real human subjects.
This study investigated the design of learning in a virtual laboratory through collaborative inquiry and its effect on student knowledge. Learning design produces learning models that are measured ...based on validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research method uses research and development that produces products and product effectiveness. The trial results were conducted on a small scale on eight students to measure the quality of student learning. To test the validity of the product through expert assistance, all the answers of the validator were calculated using Aiken's V validity coefficient. Further findings implied that students have begun to accept technology as a learning tool and provided opportunities for universities in learning development.
This research aims to find out the trend of the author's topics and keywords that are widely used related to Virtual Lab Physics to find out future research opportunities. The research method used is ...descriptive analysis method research through the bibliometric approach. The results of a Google Scholar database search found 463,000 articles for 2016-2021 with the keywords "Virtual Lab Physics". Meanwhile, based on the Scopus database, Scopus-indexed articles were obtained for 2003-2021. Search results are stored in the form of RIS and CSV will then be analyzed using the VOSviewer application and Ms. Excel to obtain a visualization in the form of a bibliometric map. The results of data analysis show that the keywords often used and related to the Virtual Physics Lab during 2016-2021 are Physics, Engineering, Science, Physics Education Research, and Interest Laboratories. Indonesian researchers in contributing internationally are still lacking, this research topic is dominated in China and the United States of America with the document types being mostly conference papers. So far, research related to the topic of Virtual Lab Physics is still quiet so it has the potential to be developed. In addition, there are recommendations for Virtual Lab Physics research that can be collaborated with one of the related keywords, namely Engineering as an opportunity for research topics to be developed.
