This article deals with questions of organization online schoolchildren training using interactive posters as multidimensional didactic tools for a computer science teacher. The concept of ..."interactive posters" discusses and shows their important role for activating and managing the activities of schoolchildren in full-time and remote forms of interaction. We are considering the design and development of interactive posters on the web platform with the specifics of training in informatics and overcoming the problems of modern schoolchildren related to clip thinking.
“Fairness” is a multi-faceted concept that is contested within and across disciplines. In machine learning, it usually denotes some form of equality of measurable outcomes of algorithmic decision ...making. In this paper, we start from a viewpoint of sociology and media studies, which highlights that to even claim fair treatment, individuals and groups first have to be visible. We draw on a notion and a quantitative measure of diversity that expresses this wider requirement. We used the measure to design and build the Diversity Searcher, a Web-based tool to detect and enhance the representation of socio-political actors in news media. We show how the tool's combination of natural language processing and a rich user interface can help news producers and consumers detect and understand diversity-relevant aspects of representation, which can ultimately contribute to enhancing diversity and fairness in media. We comment on our observation that, through interactions with target users during the construction of the tool, NLP results and interface questions became increasingly important, such that the formal measure of diversity has become a catalyst for functionality, but in itself less important.
Social networking has become a part of our lives. Web platforms enable communication and exchange of different media for private and business purposes, where beauty or Instagram-like filters are ...applied for better representation. Among face characteristics, skin color is often used for recognition or matching. In this paper feature vectors corresponding to unmodified and modified query images are based on two color space domains (HSV and Lab). Seven different distance metrics are applied for matching purposes, as well several Instagram related filters, like sepia and kelvin. The results show that image filtering affect color skin based approaches in information retrieval.
Social media services represent freely-accessible social networks allowing registered members to broadcast short posts referring to a potentially-unlimited range of topics, by also exploiting the ...immediateness of handy smart devices. This workshop wanted to stress the vision of this powerful communication channel as a social sensor, which can be used to detect and characterize interesting and yet unreported information and events in real time, crossing all topics and locations. Future technologies on this connectivity may also provide applications with automatic techniques for the generation of news (filtered over user profiles), offering a sideways to the existing authoritative information media.
This paper introduces RecBoard, a unified web-based platform that facilitates researchers and practitioners to train, test, deploy, and monitor recommendation systems. RecBoard streamlines the ...end-to-end process of building recommendation systems by providing a collaborative user interface that automates repetitive tasks related to dataset management, model training, visualization, deployments, and monitoring. Our demo prototype demonstrates how RecBoard can empower common tasks in research and development. RecBoard will be open-sourced and publicly available upon publication.
This paper introduces an approach of enhancing tourism web sites, giving the ability for such sites to be used as a tool to allow tourists to tag content of choice for downloading and viewing on ...their own mobile device whilst on visit. Tourists, upon installation to their mobile device, can view content material and a map of Mytilene (Lesvos, Greece) without the need to “connect” to any mobile operator network, thereby saving high roaming charges. Our case-study has been the design and implementation of a Multi-Platform Mobile Tourist Guide system for the Municipality of Mytilene (Greece), which uses a thin PC client via Internet to present tourist content giving the user the opportunity to select content of choice and the ability to dynamically build a thick client mobile tourist application or use the PDA Installation available at the Municipal tourist office.
In recent years web technologies have been enabling new ways for reducing the food waste by enhancing unexplored connections between donors and beneficiaries of food commodities. In this context, the ...aim of this paper is to introduce a framework that can serve as a basis for identifying best technology practices for food waste management. As an explorative example, the framework is applied to 8 Italian IT platforms. This paper fosters the understanding of the implication of technology in pushing for emerging models in the food chain organizations, in terms of roles and policies.
